Emmy Watch 06: Supporting Actress in a Drama

In anticipation of the 2006 Emmy awards, theTVaddict crew will be predicting our Emmy Winners. Check beck regularly, as new categories will be posted throughout the coming weeks. Agree with our picks? disagree completely? think we take TV a little too seriously! Post your comments below.

Nominees (L to R): Candice Bergen (Boston Legal), Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy), Chandra Wilson (Grey’s Anatomy), Blythe Danner (Huff), Jean Smart (24)

theTVaddict Predicts:

Who I Think Will Win: Blythe Danner
Blythe Danner is the 2006 equivelant of Hollywood royalty and HUFF is a critical darling. Danner will no doubt take home the Emmy.

Who I HOPE Will Win: Jean Smart
Smart took an incredibly complicated character and played in brilliantly. In the wrong hands, 24 could have been far more outlandish then it is already (When does Jack go to the bathroom!)

Who Was Snubbed: Janel Moloney
The Josh and Donna storyline was the bright spot in a fantastic final season of THE WEST WING. Janel Moloney brought so much heart to the role, and it was fantastic watching Donna evolve over the Wing’s seven seasons.

Amrie Predicts:

Who I Think Will Win: Blythe Danner
I think her name will carry more than her acting at this point. Though if I take that route, Candice Bergen (whether she’s “better” than her co-nominees or not) could win for having been nominated and won before.

Who I HOPE Will Win: Jean Smart
Jean Smart – she played “crazy” and helped to save the day. I would love to hear her name called!

Who Was Snubbed: Katherine Heigl
Assuming that she submitted the season finale, I would have to say Katherine Heigl of Grey’s was snubbed.

Jenny Predicts:

Who I Think Will Win: Blythe Danner
Blythe Danner (No explanation, I just picked one. lol)

Who I HOPE Will Win: Grey’s Anatomy Girls
Tie between Sandra Oh & Chandra Wilson (Grey’s just wouldn’t be the same without either of them!)

Who Was Snubbed: Nobody!
Honestly, I think I’m ok with this one. Sure, there are a few that I wouldn’t have minded seeing, but Candice is great in BL, I know 24 fans are thrilled with Jean being there. I love Sandra & Chandra. I don’t know about Blythe, because I don’t watch Huff, but I’ve seen her in other things and love her.

ABC submitted the superbowl episode of Grey’s Anatomy only. Hence the nominations for Christina Ricci and Kyle Chandler. Submitting an episode yourself is simply not done. Katherine Heigl did not have a lot to do in the superbowl episode hence her snub. Its a travesty in my opinion.

I agree Heigl should have been nominated–as should’ve Kate Walsh. The entire Grey’s Anatomy cast is stellar–but honestly I would’ve replaced Wilson with Heigl.

Would’ve loved to see a nomination for T. R. Knight as well–screw you Oliver Platt! -waves fist-

In this category it needs to go to Sandra Oh. Hands down. Blythe does NOT need anymore awards–nor does Bergen.
