Attn Fellow TV Addicts: I Need Your Help

With the end of the year fast approaching, ‘Best’ and ‘Worst’ lists are starting to pop up throughout the media. Not wanting to miss out on the bandwagon, would like to create his own ‘Best & Worst of 2006’ — but I’d like your help. Please post away below with any original and fun ideas you no doubt have for categories.

A great example of what I’m talking about can be found in this mornings column by the incredible Maureen Ryan. Click here to check out her very own ‘Watchie Awards’.

    Here’s one:

Worst second season of a show that shouldn’t have been picked up.

I don’t know how to word it better.

  • I like Maureen’s “Are you frakkin’ kiddin’ me” award. I would add “Show most likely to jump the shark before this season ends”. There are quite a few…

  • Sam

I’m not a big fan of awards categories specifically chosen for the winner of that category. For example ‘Most Winning Immigrant’ and ‘Scariest Network Executive’ all but cater to their respective winners. I like the traditional ‘best new show’ ‘best quote’ stuff like that, that’s more broad and doesn’t really tell you who won before you read who actually won.

So, I don’t care what you do (I know it’ll be great) just for the love of g-d don’t do THAT!

  • How about best (or worst) show with a number in the title?

    Studio 60
    30 Rock
    Twenty Good Years
    The Nine
    Six Degrees
    3 Lbs.
    1 vs. 100

Now that I think about it, maybe that’s a better idea for a poll topic.

Also I don’t know how to word this into a category, but maybe you could address the new trend of shows that seem like they could only last one season. It was a big surprise that Prison Break could have survived past that, but I’m guessing even if they had gotten their full season that Vanished, Kidnapped, and maybe even The Nine may not have stayed fresh into a 2nd season. In fact, I’m guessing that Day Break (which is decent) and Big Day (which I won’t bother with) are probably designed to last only one short season, intentionally.

I also agree with Sam. I don’t like Bests or Worsts that are catered to just one answer. It’s okay to have a category that narrows things down, but I think any category should have at least three possibilities. That way, if you have a best & a worst, there’s at least one item that’s considered your middle ground.
