I think the nominations great this year, especially compared to the emmy nods. I was pleased to see Katherine Heigl instead of Sandra Oh in the Best Supporting Actress Category, being that Katherine's charcter has devloped way more than Sandra's has. The biggest surprise to me was Evangeline Lilly's nod for playing Kate on LOST. i always thought that (as good as they are) only Matthew Fow, Terry O'Quin and Naveen Andrews would be the only ones nominated, even thought there are people such as Evangeline Michael Emerson, Yun Jim Kim and Josh Hollway who deserve recognition. Agree on the stuff you said about Desperate Housewives, Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross do deserve recognition, but Teri Hatcher's whiney Susan is getting on everybody's nerves. Steve Carrell should get the win for his work on The Office. He is so new and fresh and deserves the win. VERY disappointed on the Veronica Mars snub, and am holding out for Kristen Bell from V.Mars, Matthew Perry from Studio 60, and Justin Chambers from Grey's Anatomy to get a nods.

I'm happy with most of the nominations. Pleasant surprises include Masi Oka and Katherine Heigl. I'm sad about the usual snubs, but it would be too much of a surprise to ever see Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars and Battlestar Galactica on the list... ever.
I'm surprised only Sarah Paulson got noticed from Studio 60 when I love Amanda Peet, Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford more. And when will Turk get his well-deserved nomination??? When???
Still, yay for Heroes, Ugly Betty and DEXTER!

I generally agree with all your assessments on the nominations, except we'll have to agree to disagree about 24. I think it's definitely one of the best dramas on TV and consistently keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. The writing is excellent, and Kiefer expertly guides the story along, even in its fifth season.

Also, from what I read, Arrested Development did not air enough episodes in 2006 for it to be eligible. Otherwise, it definitely would have deserved nominations.

I'm also disappointed in no nominations for Brothers & Sisters. And Tony Shaloub cannot win over any of the other nominees (esp. Steve Carell) like he did at the Emmys. I'm sorry to Monk fans, but there is no one more brilliantly funny than Steve Carell on TV right now (in my humble opinion, of course :) ).

I'm all for The Wire. I saw the season finale the other night and there were so many outstanding performances that I thought surely this year somebody from there would get nominated. Or the show would get nominated for writing at least - I mean, come on, there are some world class writers on that show and it is nothing less than phenomenal. I agree, the Globe and especially the Emmy voters get in a rut and nominate the same old, same old every year. Where's the love for Veronica Mars and Kristin Bell, Friday Night Lights and I second that motion on Kelly Bishop from Gilmore Girls. There are too many outstanding actors that should be recognized instead of the same people i.e. Ellen Pompeo, what did she do this year???

I'm with Amrie. I love Monk. :P

Also, I like Patricia Arquette. Medium is a great show! Shows marriage that is more true to life than a lot of shows, so the hubby & I both like it a lot. AND it was NOT barely renewed. Every place I read at the beginning of the season said NBC held it back for mid-season because it was one of their better rated shows and they knew the Medium viewers would find & follow it when it came back on. So they waited to bring it on to let some of their new stuff air first to gain viewers. Unfortunately (fortunately? :) ) some new stuff tanked so they brought it back earlier than planned. So :P .

Where, oh where, is The Wire? That show, arguably one of the absolute best (bar none) cannot seem to get some mainstream recognition. All the critics love it. The fans adore it. But yet, no awards. I'm admittedly late to the game, having only recently caught up with the past three and the current seasons. But this show is magnificent. If you haven't watched it, you owe it to yourselves to do so.

Generally it was a pretty good list with very few offences at least (I totally agree with you on Monk, Patricia Arquette and Keifer 24 shouldn't be there though). Some omissions (Veronica Mars, Scrubs, How I Met Your Mother, Friday Night Lights, Brothers and Sisters) but it was a good year so someone was going to be ignored (and I've kinda given up on them awarding things like Veronica Mars and Battlestar Galactica).
