TV on DVD Boxing Day Sales

For those of us up here in Canada, the end of Christmas signifies the start of Boxing Day (think ‘Black Friday’ if you’re American). While I didn’t wake up at 5am and risk life and limb to save $100 off a flat screen TV, I did hit quite a few stores this morning (at the normal hour of 10am) to see if I could snag any great deals of TV series on DVD. If you’re brave enough to head out later today (really the crowds weren’t that bad) here are a few things that I think fellow TV Addicts may like.

VERONICA MARS (season 2) $36.99 (great deal!)
ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT (seasons 1 & 2) $19.99
GILMORE GIRLS (seasons 1 thru 6) $29.99
FRIENDS (all seasons) $29.99
BUFFY (all seasons) $29.99
ANGEL (all seasons) $29.99

SMALLVILLE (seasons 1 thru 4) $24.99
BEVERLY HILLS 90210 (season 1) $24.99
PRISON BREAK (season 1) $29.99

Found any great deals yourself? Feel free to post away and help spread the joy of boxing day to fellow TV Addicts everywhere!

I don’t know how long it will last but on the Buffy and Angel slim sets are $19.97us for the time being…just finished my collections. Happy Hunting all.

  • Common Sense

Why won’t anyone run a special on Felicity? Cheapest I see on is USED for $185 (all 4 seasons). This is ridiculous; I will never pay that kind of money for a DVD set.

  • Sam

Best Buy has quite a few ranging from the first two seasons of The O.C. and Veronica Mars at $24.99 to $115 box sets of Sex and the City, The Sopranos and Six Feet Under.

  • Walmart was a madhouse, with some great first seasons on DVD for 19.99 including ROSEANNE, ER, NEWSRADIO, MAD ABOUT YOU and more.

  • Amazon is selling the Angel and Buffy DVD sets for $19.99.

Note: these are the “Slim Sets”. I have no idea what that means, though. They come with the same amount of DVDs as the $47.99 sets.

  • Here’s a link to a forum discussing “Slim Sets” versus the originals:

Sounds to me like it’s a matter of taste. All of the content is the same, but the originals are in nicer and bulkier packaging. The Slim Sets have less artwork and have a slimmer casing.

I bought two seasons of Angel. Only need Season 1 now to complete the entire series.

  • I didn’t realize there was an actual debate between regular and ‘slim sets’

I just assumed the slim set was a trend for the studios.

Frankly, I’m far in favour of the slim sets. They take up less room on my shelf and I would like to assume they are more environmentally friendly.

  • Marisa has all seasons of Friends on for $19.99 – plus the 2nd season of Angel for $17.98 (or something close to that). I don’t think these prices are in the stores, just available when shopping on-line. has some good deals as well.

  • Liz

They have Walmart in Canadia? : )

  • Sam

Of course there is a Walmart in Canada, Liz. There is a Walmart everywhere. It’s all part of their and Starbucks joint plan to take over the world.

  • I had never heard of slim sets before today. If the content is the same, I’m all for whichever is cheaper. If they want to make the packaging smaller, include less artwork, and charge me half the price I’m fine with that.

  • Marisa

I just got back from HMV, and the Angel slim-sets were on for $19.99 – which I think is a different price than thetvaddict had in his orignal post. I bought two seasons of Gilmore Girls fro $29.99 each – which I am so excited about because I rarely see them on sale.

    Happy Shopping everyone 🙂

  • Dominique

I got season 1 of Gilmore Girls for christmas and when I visited thetvaddict this morning and that I saw that the GG sets are on sale for boxing day, I went straight to HMV and bought 2 to 5… 50% on a set that I never see on sale is a great deal IMO!!! The guy at the register laughed and said that I had a lot of hours of TV show to watch but that’s ok LOL

  • Dear Dominique,

Glad I could help fuel your TV on DVD addiction!

    Merry Christmas!
