T.R. Knight on ELLEN

T.R. Knight dropped by THE ELLEN DEGENERES show this morning (Wednesday), and rather then the usual generic interview, decided to tell the truth with regards to what happened on the GREY’S ANATOMY set last October.

Knight said that Isaiah Washington “referred to me as a f—-t,” and loud enough for everyone to overhear. “I could’ve just let it slide and not said anything,” Knight told DeGeneres during the interview, “but it became important,” to speak out, as word leaked to the internet.

For some ridiculous reason, Washington continues to plead his innocence, even while backstage at Monday’s GOLDEN GLOBES. As Michael Ausiello reported today in ASK AUSIELLO:

It was by far the ugliest, most uncomfortable press-room moment I have ever experienced. And judging by the shell-shocked faces on the cast — particularly T.R. Knight and Patrick Dempsey, who have been class acts throughout this entire ordeal — it was a new low for them, too.

Why Isaiah Washington continues to lie about what happened is completely beyond comprehension. I’m all for people making mistakes, and I for one was willing to forgive Washington for his. But in order to move on, one must fess up and apologize for what happened. Aside from embarassing himself and his career, Washington’s continued denials are hurting the actors, the show, the network and most importantly, the viewers.

I think it’s time Shonda Rhimes [GREY’S Showrunner] gets back to her laptop and starts writing some new scenes for Dr. Burke. Rumour has it that Preston’s hand might not be healing as well as it should. One can’t help but wonder if Burke’s failed hand operation might effect his job at Seattle Grace? Here’s hoping!

  • I agree with you. It is difficult to put this entire ugliness out of my mind when watching GA. It keeps creeping around.

Washington is an amazing actor and I love the character of Burke. There have been times that he has passed McDreamy on the lovable scale for me. But if the actor is going to create so much outside drama that it impacts the show itself then maybe he shouldn’t stick around.

I’m one of those people that like to seperate characters from actors when I’m watching a really good show or movie, especially when all the controversy seems to be much bigger than it probably should be.

I try not to think of this while watching Grey’s. I love this show. T.R. Knight is an awesome actor and his being gay shouldn’t be of issue. What should be of issue is Isiah Washington calling him a faggot and then when all seems to have died down somewhat, he denies it altogether. Thus making things worse. Maybe Isiah didn’t mean to say the word. He is a fine actor and I’d hate to see him strung up and ridiculed for a mistake. But until he owns up to it, how can one respect him as a person or an actor? In life, we all make mistakes. No one is perfect at all times. It is through failure or mistakes, we learn about ourselves and thus, hopefully change into better informed people. Tim W.

Isaiah is certainly isolating himself. I’d imagine his co-stars treat him like he’s got the plague off-screen. I thought his denial of calling anyone something “so vile” was insulting to gays, as well.

Isaiah certainly knows the repercusions of saying that word. For him to continue in that downward spiral just shows that there is still some bad blood in the cast. I recall seeing the Oprah interview with the male cast members. As Isaiah explained the situation in such incoherent terms that left me perplexed, he coily said that Patrick and TR are his ‘brothers’ and that the case passed by. Interestingly, Patrick and TR just stared blankly down on the floor and on Oprah as if to say nonverbally, ‘What Isaiah is insinuating is not really the case.’ Isaiah, in my estimation, will be off the show in dramatic fashion.

I absolutely love Grey’s Anatomy and adore T R Knight’s character. He’s a talented actor and kudos to him for standing up for himself. I hope he knows that he has astounding support from his fans on this. Shame on Isaiah for his ugly comment!

I think that now after a second incident, Washington should be removed from the show. I know I would be let go from job if I ever said something so demeaning and insulting. And, really, I do believe that had anyone on that set called Washington the “n” word, that actor would be gone so fast it would make my head spin.
This is nasty stuff and it deserves to be dealt with appropriately. I can’t help but think that the reluctance to do so on the part of Shonda Rhimes is what is at the root of all things entertainment/business: money.
I find the lack of action on the part of the powers that be to be pretty embarrassing and shameful, but, not surprising.

Man I have to admit when I found out TR Knight was gay, because well dang he is so cute and loveable. Well that still hasn’t changed after seeing him on Ellen he is even more cute and loveable, that you just want to take him home and keep him! Man when I saw him shaking I just wished I was there in the audience. I would have jumped up and down waving so I could give him a hug and say it’s ok!!! We love ya anyway!!!!!

How he handle’s this situation with Mr. Washinton should be between him, the cast, and his bosses. I just hope they don’t change TR Knight’s character “George”, because TR brings his personality into George that is so cute.

As for TR Knights career….heck I don’t think it’s damage it at all, the worst case senerior is women probably trying to convert him back. He is just adorable, he’s a great actor, and I don’t think that will change.
