Auditioning for AMERICAN IDOL: A First-Hand Account
Ever wonder what it’s REALLY like to audition for AMERICAN IDOL? FOX NEWS has a fantastic first hand account from the August cattle call… sorry, audition process. In a nutshell, you wait twenty hours with 10,000 fellow delusional contestants only to sing for roughly 15 seconds and have your dreams promptly crushed.
Row by row, we lined up to audition in front of one of those 12 booths, four participants to a booth. Sure enough — no Simon, no Randy, no Paula.
By the time I got to that line, I was jittery yet pumped, repeating the feisty intro to “Rock Steady”: “Rock steady baby! That’s what I feel now. Let’s call this song exactly what it is.”
An “Idol” staffer ushered me over to a booth along with three others in line. I had noticed earlier that a woman dressed as a homecoming queen (a nod to the chorus of “Daydream Believer”) got the coveted golden ticket allowing her to move to the next round. Could she sing? Who knows. Few others followed in her footsteps.

ALIAS Alumni Return to TV
Great news today for ALIAS fans. Michael Vartan (Michael Vaughn) is headed back to series television. Vartan has signed on to headline ABC’s untitled drama pilot about four high-powered CEOs or CEOs-to-be who are all friends.
In more ALIAS news, SpyDaddy Victor Garber has signed on to ELI STONE, a high concept Legal Drama from EVERWOOD mastermind Greg Berlanti. ‘Stone’ revolves around a brilliant young attorney (Jonny Lee Miller) at a top law firm who finds out that he might be a prophet. Garber will play the senior partner at the firm.
No word as to whether these ‘jobs’ are just fronts for a new APO/CIA/SD6 spy operation — but here’s hoping!
theTVaddict’s Favourite TV Theme Songs
This season one of the things theTVaddict has been mourning (aside from the death of EVERWOOD) is the disappearance of the traditional TV theme song. Historically, the TV theme song was a show’s calling card. I vividly remember being sent off to bed on Friday nights just as my mom crawled into bed to watch her favourite show DALLAS. To this day, I’ve never seen an episode of DALLAS, yet I can hum the theme song to perfection.
The following are a few of my favourite TV theme songs. Please share any of your favourites that I missed in the comments below.
THE FLASH Airing on CBS in 1990, THE FLASH starred John Wesley Shipp as the man in red (Dawson’s deceased dad on DAWSON’S CREEK) and featured an unforgettable theme by music maestro Danny Elfman (THE SIMPSONS, BATMAN, EDWARD SCISSORHANDS). The show lasted for only one season, and being too young to understand how the television industry worked, it took years before I realized that the show was cancelled, and didn’t just disappear!
THE ADVENTURES OF BRISCO COUNTY JR Another one hit wonder from theTVaddict’s childhood was FOX’s short-lived Western Sci-Fi starring cult legend Bruce Campbell (EVIL DEAD). Aside from having a catchy theme, the show was also executive produced by none other then LOST mastermind Carlton Cuse.
GREY’S ANATOMY Shocker!
For once, the marketing department didn’t disappoint. In fact, for the first time ever, ABC may have undersold the final five minutes of last night’s GREY’S ANATOMY. Not ONE, but TWO marriage proposals! I didn’t see that coming. Will Christina say yes to Burke? My guess is yes. Will Callie accept George’s proposal? Judging from Callie’s reaction, I’m going to say no. Of course when it comes to predicting the ups and downs of Seattle Grace, my track record is spotty at best.
That said, I totally called it, not that I’m sure everyone who was watching didn’t see it coming! On one of the podcasts (sorry, I can’t remember which one) I said that Izzie would be using her 8 million dollars to open up the Denny Memorial Wing. I did not foresee that the wing would be a free clinic started by Dr. Bailey. Yet I loved her explanation to McDreamy, McSteamy, Addison and Burke about why she needed to do this.
Speaking of Bailey, My favourite scene of the night was when the Chief told Bailey that she’d be Chief someday. Poor Chief, you knew it was coming — Adele said she wasn’t going to wait around and she didn’t. I wonder what mysterious man was in the Chief’s house?
Finally. the race for Chief of surgery. Derek, Addison, Burke and Sloan. Who do you think is going to win it? My money’s on McDreamy.
