Good News for Rory, Bad News for GILMORE GIRLS Fans

It may be time to start planning your GILMORE GIRLS series finale party, complete with giant Lorelai-esque pizza, endless amounts of coffee and a Pippi Longstocking retrospective to start off the night. TVGuide’s Michael Ausiello is reporting that showrunner David Rosenthal has lined up Rory Gilmore’s (Alexis Bledel) longtime role model for the May 8 season (most likely series) finale. Christiane Amanpour, CNN’s globe-trotting reporter will be making an appearance in the finale, playing herself. In more bad news, Ausiello reports that:

Talks to bring the show back for an eighth season have stalled, and, according to several sources, there’s little hope for a turnaround.

This TV Addict’s completely uninformed take on the situation — Alexis Bledel wants to move on with her life and start working on other projects. Note to Alexis — I’ve seen you act in SIN CITY, THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELLING PANTS, BRIDE & PREJUDICE and TUCK EVERLASTING — it’s too late. For the rest of your career, whether you like it or not, you’re going to be synomous with ‘Rory Gilmore’. So suck it up, enjoy it while it lasts and sign on to GILMORE GIRLS for one final season. Give the fans the final season we’ve waited for. We’ve stuck it out through the entire Luke/Lorelai/Christopher mess. Fans deserve this much!

What is happening to Gilmore Girls is not Alexis Bledel fault and to blame her for talks staling is wrong. Its time for the show to end.

ALexis Bedel didn’t create the mess of the last season – ASP and DR did.

If AB wants to move on or just take time off or whatever, she has earned that right. She completed all seven years of her contract, you never heard a single rumor of unprofessional behavior. She has done all that is required of her.

I wish her well in whatever she does.

I have mixed feelings about the possibility of Gilmore Girls ending at the end of this season.

In a way, it wouldn’t be that bad because the show hasn’t been as great as it used to be. It’s suffered from Buffy: The Vampire Slayer syndrome — excellent in it’s first five seasons; feeling like a different & lesser show in seasons 6 & 7. I have to force myself not to watch the reruns on ABC Family, because it’s too depressing to see how good the show used to be compared to the way it is now. The less I compare season 7 to seasons 1 – 5, the more I can enjoy season 7.

On the other hand, I don’t think the remainder of season 7 is enough time to give fans or the cast a satisfying conclusion to the whole series. They’ve already done 17 episodes, and according to, the next two are already titled (which means probably already scripted). So, even if the cancellation was officially announced tomorrow, they’ve only got three episodes in which to wrap things up. Story wise, they really gotta have one more season. Unfortunately, it’ll be ratings, money, and contracts that decide whether year 8 happens or not.

Maybe they ought to compromise. The O.C. had a short final season, and I heard on the radio that The Sopranos (or maybe another HBO show; or maybe The Shield) was also going to have an abbreviated final season. Even Battlestar Galactica’s fourth–and possibly final–season is going to be 13 episodes instead of 20. If Gilmore Girls came back, couldn’t they just do around 10 to 13 episodes? Wouldn’t that make everyone happy?

Well, its official. There is NO REASON TO WATCH The CW anymore. First Gilmore Girls leaving and now tonights word of Veronica Mars’ cancellation. This SUCKS.

  • Laura

Your uninformed take on the situation is ill informed. Your personal attack on Alexis is juvenile and its shows how ignorant you are of what is really going on. The show was life support since the beginning of the season with a new head writer and a new network and this season have shown that with its horrible story lines. You can’t blame Alexis in wanting to leave with what is going on with the show right now and she has the right, she honored her contract so you can’t blame her for wanting to move on with her life.

    Dear Laura,

This was in no means a personal tack on Alexis. I was just voicing my very informed opinion that if I were in Alexis’ shoes, I would take the truckload of money the CW will be offering her and do one final season of GILMORE GIRLS. She’s still young and has her entire career to ‘move on’ with her life.

  • Danielle

I agree with Vance. If GG ends, there will be no reason to watch the CW anymore. Who wants to be stuck with the Pussycat Dolls crap and another season of 7th Heaven. There’s a show that should have died a long time ago.

Alexis and Lauren, please do another season; even if it’s only 10 episodes. I’m begging you………you’re one of the few shows on TV worth watching.

  • Laura

“I would take the truckload of money the CW will be offering her and do one final season of GILMORE GIRLS. She’s still young and has her entire career to ‘move on’ with her life. ”

No offence but how do you know what kind of money they are offering her? You are going on rumors that have not been confirmed. Nobody knows what is really going on behind the scenes with the show and to put blame on Alexis for what is going on is wrong as well. Alexis is not the only actor in talks and i doubt they want only one more year. Alexis has honored her contract and she has a right to move on, especially with the way the show has deteriorated in the last three seasons.

She does not own you or anybody a damn thing. Maybe you and some of the fans should suck it up and accept that other than attack her by saying that her acting is not good and that she owns you something for “the entire Luke/Lorelai/Christopher mess” which if you were serious in finding someone to blame for it, you would notice that Alexis does not write the scripts or dictate the direction of the show

  • Common Sense

…and hey, stop bashing the last two seasons of Buffy. I loved every frikkin minute of that show, from Season 1-7. It will always be the Gold Standard.

  • Marc

The last FOUR seasons of Buffy sucked compared to the first three.

The last three seasons of Gilmore Girls have been weak, with last year the worst. Put this show out of its misery.

    Happy 40th birthday, Lauren Graham.

About the: “Give the fans the final season we’ve waited for. We’ve stuck it out through the entire Luke/Lorelai/Christopher mess. Fans deserve this much!”

What fans are you talking about??? Funny how people keep saying that Alexis should sign for one more season so Lorelai and Luke fans can get what they think they deserve, but as for Alexis character fans and also fans of the couple Rory and Logan it’s ok that David will end the show sending a major F*** you, way bigger than the one that said Lorerai/Luke fans received.

So did GG lose around 20% of the fans this season because of “the entire Luke/Lorelai/Christopher mess”? Does anyone really think all those fans who moved on to a new show will come back after a whole year or that GG will conquer new fans in its 8th season without the original showrunner???

With or without Alexis Bledel, this last twist prepared for David Rosenthal where he makes Logan propose to Rory on his knee only to have her turning him down and breaks up the couple will sink the show even worse.

I can see why Amy Sherman Palladino would choose him to take her place when she was pissed at the network.

And just to end this comment/rant from a very disappointed long time fan who stayed with the show even after it started to go downhill: the only difference between Amy Sherman Palladino and David Rosenthal is that, at least, Amy is very talented.
