I agree season 2 was superb, I have just finished rewatching season 1 with a friend and going back really drives home not just how the storyline moved on in season 2 but also the immense amounts of character development these boys have gone through, which I think it's a central part of what makes this show great. I have to say, I liked the in some ways understated and restrained nature of the finale and in particular the YED's death. Yes, they could have gone for a drawn-out epic fight between the boys and their nemisis, but we've seen that before on countless shows (Buffy anyone?) and really that's not the Winchester way. Although having said that, some of my favorite episodes are part of the second half - Nightshifter is still my favorite episode of all, for right now anyway, and Croatoan and Hunted still leave me breathless every time. I must say, I found nothing anti-climactic about the finale this season. It was a risky step to take to kill off the YED, but a bold move, I think, which will open up a whole new mytharc for the season(s) to come. Yes, Dean sold his soul to hell and that’s tense and dark, but I can see him taking time this coming year to smell the proverbial roses. He finally gets a moment to breath, live in a world where the Demon is finally gone. Amen.
