Great article. I agree season 2 was superb, I have just finished rewatching season 1 with a friend and going back really drives home not just how the storyline moved on in season 2 but also the immense amounts of character development these boys have gone through, which I think it's a central part of what makes this show great.

I have to say, I liked the in some ways understated and restrained nature of the finale and in particular the YED's death. Yes, they could have gone for a drawn-out epic fight between the boys and their nemisis, but we've seen that before on countless shows (Buffy anyone?) and really that's not the Winchester way.

Nice review - while I loved Season One, Season Two has been even better, although I agree with you about the slight slacking in the pace that occurred in the second half of the season - it just didn't seem as intense as the first half. Although having said that, some of my favorite episodes are part of the second half - Nightshifter is still my favorite episode of all, for right now anyway, and Croatoan and Hunted still leave me breathless every time. I must say, I found nothing anti-climactic about the finale this season. It was a risky step to take to kill off the YED, but a bold move, I think, which will open up a whole new mytharc for the season(s) to come.

It's great to see Supernatural getting some well-deserved attention in the media. Now, only the ratings would reflect the quality...

With sexy wonderful Jared Padalecki you can only win!
Born Under a Bad Sign is a fantastic episode and I can't wait for a season 3 full of badass Sam Winchester. He will save Dean, I'm sure!
Less romance and more action!

Very nice! I really liked Folsom Prison Blues though. -- Now if you had included 'No Exit' as one of the 'weaker' episodes I'd have been right there with you. ;)
Although I enjoy the mytharc, I tend to like the stand-alone episodes better, so I'm not sorry the YED is ded. Can't wait to see where the roadtrip takes us in Season Three and Four and Five and . . . . . .
Supernatural on the (rare) bad day is better than most TV on it's best day.

excellent article. I agree with everything you said. which is why I have nothing to say here cause you said it so perfectly. I hope the people at CW see this and see how incredible this show is and how much the fans really, really love it. thanks.

Amen. Although I did enjoy the darkness of season two and the Man Pain (I did, I really did) I do hope that season three gets to have some lighter moments, more akin to season one. Yes, Dean sold his soul to hell and that’s tense and dark, but I can see him taking time this coming year to smell the proverbial roses. He finally gets a moment to breath, live in a world where the Demon is finally gone.

That article is spot on. Season 2 has been amazingly brilliant and unmissable from premiere to finale and has left great scope for some amazing times ahead for Dean and Sam with the subtle thought that maybe Sam is not the Sam we all know and love. As for Dean the whole deal made with the Demon at the crossroads promises to add tortuous amounts of tension, angst and drama throughout the coming season. I for one can hardly wait.
