Jenny’s This Week on TV

Welcome to a new week for This Week on TV! What a week! Jericho fans are still on a roll, having sent (as of just after midnight on Friday night) nearly 36,000 pounds of nuts to CBS and raised over $10,000 for Greensburg, Kansas. Still crossing my fingers that a miracle will happen and that and Veronica Mars will be picked up! lol Let’s see what up in reality this week, shall we? *sigh*

Sunday is the series premiere of a new show on Lifetime called Army Wives. It’s about the struggles, dreams and friendships of a diverse group of women — and one man — living with their spouses and families on an active army post and the pressures and traditions of the military on those who are left behind while their partners serve their country. It stars Kim Delaney (NYPD Blue, Sally Pressman (Shark), Brigid Brannagh (Over There), Brian McNamara (The OC), Sterling K. Brown (the hysterical short-lived Starved), Wendy Davis (Commander-in-Chief), Drew Fuller (Charmed) & the terrific Catherine Bell (JAG). It’s a great, strong cast and my best friend’s husband is about to leave to go over to Iraq, so this one kind of hits close to home for me. It airs at 10/9c.

If you are a Food Network fan, the new season of The Next Food Network Star with 2 episodes starting at 9/8c. In these first 2 episodes, the eleven finalists meet for the first time, present an original dish to the selection committee, decorate a cake and cater a wedding.

If you are lucky like me and have more channels than you know what to do with, you should check and see if you get AmericanLife TV. Starting tonight and every Sunday night at 11/10c, they are airing 3 classic dramas from the premiere episode of each: St. Elsewhere, Hill Street Blues & L.A. Law. Read all about it here:

Tuesday is the season premiere of 2 shows. First up is the 2-hour premiere of America’s Got Talent on NBC at 9/8c. Sharon Osbourne is a judge and Jerry Spring hosts this season, so it should be interesting!

Also premiering tonight is Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List on Bravo starting at 9/8c with a 1 hour special titled: Kathy Griffin: Everybody Can Suck It. lol Then the new season premieres after that at 10/9c.

Starting tonight on BBC America, they are airing the show MI-5 from the beginning at 8/7c & 9/8c. The show airs on A&E and has finished its 4th season. But if you are like me and have heard of it and wanted to see it but didn’t want to start in the middle, you can check it out from the beginning! They lie to their friends, they lie to their lovers, they lie to their own families…and they risk their lives every minute of every day to keep the peace and protect millions of others. Like the CIA in America, MI-5 is the national security agency for the United Kingdom – an organization that brings its operatives into mortal danger on a regular basis. The fast-moving series follows the daring exploits of Section B, a small group of top-flight agents in the counter-terrorism division. Tied closely to events happening around the globe, the stories interweave high-tech, covert plans of action with the complications that such highly pressured jobs bring to interpersonal relationships – outside and inside of the department. It sounds great, doesn’t it? A little bit like my much-missed Alias. :( :)

There are 4 episodes left to air of the cancelled series and I can’t wait for them!

Friday is also the series premiere of Mayo on BBC America with 2 eps starting at 8/7c. Alistair McGowan is wisecracking detective Gil Mayo in a series of intriguing and entertaining whodunnits. • vacelts

Although I’m not normally into Lifetime shows, I’m looking forward to Army Wives. Probably because I’m a Navy brat myself.

  • allie

You left out “The Starter Wife” which premiered last week. I’m not a huge fan of Debra Messing, but this show was great!

  • Linda B.

I agree, i enjoyed The Starter Wife too. I think i heard there will be 4 more parts. If it does well, is there talk of it becoming a regular series?

Finally FOX brings back their clear winner of last fall’s offerings. Standoff returns on Friday and in my opinion has fought to keep it’s presence knows, with dang little help from the company that holds the actors in contract pending the success. Unfortunately this “sucess rating” is going to be judged by FOX’s marketing staff who obviously lives in reality TV -ville. They need to understand that a Friday night summer time show will have a rating slightly lower (sarcasm there) rating than say- 24 or American Idol. But then again Jenny, with the huge ratings drop in 24 and lack luster interest in anything else the FOX has proven it will not support beyond three or four shows, I would think FOX would be getting a hint that holding onto a fresh drama/romance/action series is in their best interest.

Standoff has the potential to be huge, and I for one will be watching it.

  • Eryn

Thank you!!! It’s about time someone mentioned ‘Standoff’!! This show has some great potential and I, along with many of my friends, will be tuned in watching!! I really hope that FOX will come to there senses and realize that they made a HUGE mistake by letting this show go.

  • Jenny

I love Standoff. It was one of my favorite new shows. I can’t wait to see it this week! :D

I can’t believe I left off Starter Wife. Duh. lol Thanks. :)

  • Jenny

Oh, I didn’t leave off Starter Wife! Check Thursday again! heh It’s the first thing listed. :)

  • Kelly

Standoff rocks! It is hands down the best FOX had to offer this year and has gotten a bum rap from the network. I plan on watching every episode I can to show my support and encourage others to do the same. Tune in for a good drama with action and romance.

  • Kaytie

I love Standoff. It’s a great show with great acting. Everyone should watch!

  • stephanie

YAY for the return of Standoff! I love this show more than anything! I’m having a party to celebrate the return!!!!! They need to bring this back for a second (and third and fourth) season!!! We need MnEm fluff!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kevin

I’m psyched to see Standoff returning as well… although I’m in it more for the action than the ‘fluff’…

But hey, Jenny, I thought you should know that there are 8 new eps, not 4… Twice the fun.

  • European Standoff Fan

I’ve said this before, but I’ll gladly say it again!

Standoff is the best show I’ve seen in a long time.

A welcomed change from reality shows and singing/dancing competitions.

This show is not just “crime procedural storytelling”, it is so much more.

Standoff is about people and their actions when pushed to the limit.

It is about two co-workers figuring out how to deal with their personal relationship as well as their working relationship.

A good mixture of action, humour, drama, and romance is brought togehter by smashing lines and writing and most of all great acting by the two leads Ron Livingston (“Office Space”, “sex and the city”)and Rosemarie Dewitt (“Off the Black”, “Rescue Me”).

The relationship between the two negotiators Matt Flannery and Emily Lehman is the backbone of this plot. The character development is perfect, bringing lots of tension, funny banter and hot scenes!

For anyone not watching this show yet, I really recommend you tune in next friday or catch up on older episodes on “Fox on Demand” at

The pilot will definately get you interested and wanting more of this great, very original new show. I also reccomend the episode “Partners In Crime”, “Borderline”, and the one aired last friday “No Strings”.

The upcoming episodes are promised to be the best yet!
Watch “Standoff” Fridays 9/8c on Fox!

  • Q

Friday nights episode of Standoff was awesome!! I just fell in love with this show all over again! I can’t wait for the upsoming episodes!

  • European Standoff Fan

Jenny, will you be watching tomorrow?

I hope lots of people will watch. We need the ratings to go up so fox will consider shooting a second season.

I bet it’ll be another mindblowing episode!
