Is anyone else watching ARMY WIVES? Holy guilty pleasure, Batman! Yes, there have been critics saying that our men and women in the armed services “deserve better”, which would seem to imply that others in admirable professions — say, the firemen represented on RESCUE ME or the police officers mocked on RENO 911 — are somehow less worthy… but come on, folks. Anyone not taking immense pleasure in the sassy, sexy performance of Sally Pressman as Roxy LeBlanc is missing out on the kind of fun one would hardly expect to find on the Lifetime network, of all places.

After hearing TOP CHEF’s Clay talk about how his father was a restauranteur who killed himself, I had to flinch every time the judges said the wanna-be chef had failed to “pull the trigger” on his dish. By the time the poor guy was told to pack his knives, I couldn’t help worrying that the sad sack might instead use them to slit his own wrists! It’s great to have the tastiest reality show on the airwaves back, although I can’t help wishing that they had a few nicer contestants and fewer of the obnoxious ones who would be a better fit in HELL’S KITCHEN with foul-mouthed Gordon Ramsay. And yes, I’m talking to you, Hung. The world — not to mention television — needs a whole lot fewer people who proudly declare that they are CPA’s (Certified Professional A**hole).

The less said about the results of Friday night’s Daytime Emmy Awards, the better. Bryton McClure (Devon, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) as best younger actor? Who knew they were now handing out trophies for blandness? We were thrilled for Genie Francis (Laura, GENERAL HOSPITAL) and it was nice to see GUIDING LIGHT — currently celebrating its 70th anniversary — walk away with Best Writing honors. But how did THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS (which under Lynn Latham has gone from Must See to Why Watch?) wind up sharing Best Show with GL? Best moment of the night? Ellen DeGeneres — in claiming her fourth consecutive Best Talk Show award — giving us a glimpse into the new, “more controversial” style she would be adapting in light of Rosie’s attention-grabbing stint on THE VIEW by declaring “I think Bob Barker is a quitter.”

I also love Army Wives. I don’t even remember why I started it but I really enjoy the show. Especially the mentioned Roxy and Catherine Bell. It’s a sweet show and I’ll keep on watching…

  • Bryton McClure definitely deserved to be rewarded for the work he did on Family Matters. His current role, probably not.

  • Being a Navy brat, I originally tuned into Lifetime’s Army Wives for the premise — family life on an Army post — and for the a cast that included Kim Delaney (NYPD Blue), Catherine Bell (JAG), and Brigid Brannagh (Angel), but I’ll be returning for the interesting characters and the captivating storyline. I love this show!
