Jenny’s This Week on TV

Welcome to a new week for This Week on TV! I hope you had a great week last week! There is lots on this week, including several season finales and the series finale of a potentially great new show on USA called Burn Notice! So let’s see what’s happening!

Sunday is 3 new episodes of The Loop on FOX at 7:30/6:30c, 8:30/7:30c AND 9:30/8:30c! First up, Sam goes to a business lunch with Russ, his friends from the airlines and Russ’ nemesis. On the 2nd episode, Sam’s failure to nominate Meryl for a prestigious award angers her. Finally, Sam opposes corporate sponsorship until he meets the sponsor’s cute new marketing representative (Christine Lakin, who played Alicia ‘Al’ Lambert on Step by Step years ago).

Also, don’t forget to check your schedules and see if NBC is starting to air Kidnapped at 12AM/11PMc tonight! They decided to air the 8 episodes that they didn’t air when it was on new.

Monday is the season finale of The Ex-Wives Club on ABC at 9/8c. This show was actually a lot better than I thought it would be. Very cheesy, yes, but I enjoyed it. Shar Jackson vs Britney Spears. Shar seems pretty, smart, funny and caring and Britney is a skanky idiot. So… yeah. Another proof that K-Fed is ridiculously stupid. ;)

How terrific was the season premiere of The Closer last week? It has officially become my favorite show in the last few years. On tonight’s episode, on TNT at 9/8c, a missing gang-member’s body is found with Lt. Provenza’s business card in his pocket and Brenda’s father calls. Won’t he be surprised at who answers the phone!

Thursday is a huge night for tv. First up is the series finale of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip on NBC at 10/9c. I know many of you are very sad about this and for that, I’m truly sorry. I know what it’s like when a show you love is cancelled too soon!

Tonight is also the final episode of The Starter Wife on USA at 9/8c. I’ve really enjoyed this quirky little mini-series. It’s been a fun show to watch when there isn’t a ton on!

Next up is the 1-hour series premiere of Hey Paula on BRAVO at 10/9c. This 30-minute docu-drama series provides a real-life look at Paula Abdul.

Finally, tonight is the series premiere of Burn Notice on USA at 10/9c. Starring Jeffrey Donovan (from Touching Evil), Sharon Gless (Debbie on Queer As Folk and Chris Cagney on Cagney and Lacey!), Bruce Campbell (Brisco County Jr!) and Gabrielle Anwar (Princess Margaret on The Tudors), the show is packed with a great cast. A spy, Michael Weston, receives a burn notice for an unstated reason, effectively firing him. He has spent the previous decade working for the government in Eastern Europe and returns to his hometown of Miami to get his life in order. Michael will stop at nothing to find out why. Shut out from his normal contacts, but still driven to right wrongs, Michael needs to stay under the radar in order to stay in the game.

Have a great week everyone! It’ll be another busy week for me as we begin packing (Yes, my husband got the job in Kansas City!) and start really looking for somewhere to live. We’ll go meet my in-laws in KC next Saturday to look at some places and hopefully will come home knowing where we will be living 2 weeks from then!

I’m watching “The Loop” right now, and Philip Baker Hall may be the funniest old guy on TV this side of Jerry Stiller. Absolutely riotous! His episode as the Library Cop on Seinfeld was one of the funniest of all time (even Jerry had a hard time keeping a straight face).

Bret Harrison is also great in this show. Really looking forward to him in “Reaper.” Ray Wise as the devil is just a stroke of brilliance. (P.S. Did anyone see the scene in Twin Peaks where he was revealed as his daughter’s killer? Terrifying.)

    Holy Spoiler Alert Common Sense!

Some of us have yet to watch TWIN PEAKS :)

Coincidentally, I too am sitting watching THE LOOP. Yet another funny FOX show not given a chance. But having seen REAPER, I can assure you that Bret Harrison is fantastic, and REAPER may be that elusive hit the CW so desperately needs.

What happened to NBC giving repeats of Friday Night Lights on Sundays?

  • Common Sense

Sorry if I spoiled the Twin Peaks experience for anyone. I figured anyone who was ever interested in seeing the cult-classic would’ve done it within the last 15-20 years. It’s pretty common knowledge who Laura Palmer’s killer was. The scene (and soooo many others in TP) will chill you to the bone.

P.S. I’m glad Missy Peregrym has replaced Nikki Reed on Reaper. Nikki just didn’t seem quite “hot” enough…just best-friendly. Missy is hot.

  • Nikki

Fortunately, CS left off the best twist of that mystery. Maybe his/her memory is a little foggy, but, guaranteed, it was absolutely NOT the dad who killed L.P. (remember now?), though I can see how time may have muddied the recollection. So go ahead and enjoy, spoiler-free. Great show, awesome shockers.

If you didn’t get a chance to see Army Wives, catch it in reruns. This episode was definately edge of your seat. In “One of Our Own,” we still do not know the fate of Denise’s (Catherine Bell) husband, the Major. However, the fate of one of the soldiers on Fort Marshall is sealed.
