Okay, so David Duchovny doesn’t exactly look happy to be back on television. But as a former X-FILES addict, do we really care?

Sophisticated and unique, CALIFORNICATION centers on novelist Hank Moody (Duchovny) who struggles to raise his 13-year-old daughter (Madeleine Martin), while still carrying a torch for his ex-girlfriend Karen (McElhone). His obsession with truth-telling and self-destructive behavior — drinks, drugs and relationships — are both destroying and enriching his career.

While we have yet to see the pilot, of this we’re sure. Watching David Duchovny stare at a blank screen for an hour will be more entertaining [and far less confusing] than HBO’S train-wreck of a series JOHN FROM CINCINNATI. All together now — they cancelled DEADWOOD for this? CALIFORNICATION premieres this August on Showtime, stay tuned for details.

i don’t think everyone thinks john from cincinnati is a train wreck. i quite enjoy it myself. i think it’s going to build into something really incredible, just wait.

JOHN FROM CINCINNATI is actually really interesting, and as the above poster said, it’s building up to something big instead of laying out all the answers and information. It takes a bit of patience that’s all.

Couldn’t agree with you fellas more. Episodes 2 & 3 were terrific. And if you miss Deadwood so much, why not watch this? You’ve got Ellsworth, Jack McCall and Charlie Utter here, plus they all talk (and especially curse) like they do on Deadwood anyways.

Don’t understand all the fuss about Deadwood. The show was great but is starting to slip. Dirty miners saying Co**sucker can only be entertaining for so long. JFC is no better or worse than Deadwood. It’s just Milch doing something new.
