Congratulations to readers Deb, Rae, Tim and Mel who correctly guessed that the TV Addict is currently in beautiful Vancouver, Canada. For the next two days in fact, the TV Addict has officially gone SCI FI, as I’m taking part in the first ever SCI FI CHANNEL DIGITAL PRESS TOUR.My adventure begin in about twenty-five minutes (6am folks, talk about a ‘rough day’) as I get on a bus and head to the sets of EUREKA, STARGATE ATLANTIS and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Needless to say I’m giddy with excitement and can’t wait to get the scoop on all your favourite shows.Stay tuned for updates, but in the meantime, feel free to follow along as I post regularly via Twitter. And note, if I’ve gone silent for too long, the TV Addict was undoubtedly ‘escorted’ off the premises for trying to commandeer a Viper and lead the BSG crew back to earth.

Amrie’s Take on TV: Summer TV
We’re not even one week into summer, and already, summer TV has me going nuts. I’m obsessed with great new comedies, and worshipping established dramas. Usually, I can’t wait to get to the end of the summer for fall TV to start, but with the stuff the networks are throwing at me, I don’t want the summer to end!
Here’s my take on what you should be watching if you haven’t already been –
1. Flight of the Conchords – oh my heavens, these two New Zealenders, Bret and Jermaine, have made life so much better this summer. Aside from reruns of The New Adventures of Old Christine (which have really been better than I would have given them credit), there isn’t another show on TV that has me laughing. Their musical interludes are just the right kind of crazy that make the show work. They’re awkwardly hilarious, which is what I would use (and probably have used on more than one occasion) to describe my own personal hero, Michael Cera. Dry, unaware of just how hilarious they are, this is a show worth checking out for sure!
2. Rescue Me – I’ll be the first to admit that Season 3 lacked some luster. The plots were out there in a bad way, and all the “everyone wants to sleep with Tommy” crap was starting to get on my nerves. So far this season, they’re handling everything with aplomb. Tommy’s got women chasing him, but not in the crazy way they used to. Tatum O’Neill is really cracking me up as Sean Garrity’s wife. Garrity is still hilariously dumb, and Mike (no longer The Probie) is most likely going to lose his mother, but he just can’t accept it. Franco and Natalie is believable, and I like the friendship he’s formed with her brother. Chief, Lou, even the replacement Chief, and Peter Tolan as the head of the station – it’s just great stuff. If you tuned out for whatever reason in Season 3, Season 4 is the time to get back in – Susan Sarandon’s coming up soon, too, and expect a big shock in this week’s episode that will blow you way!
First Look: CALIFORNICATION
Okay, so David Duchovny doesn’t exactly look happy to be back on television. But as a former X-FILES addict, do we really care?
Sophisticated and unique, CALIFORNICATION centers on novelist Hank Moody (Duchovny) who struggles to raise his 13-year-old daughter (Madeleine Martin), while still carrying a torch for his ex-girlfriend Karen (McElhone). His obsession with truth-telling and self-destructive behavior — drinks, drugs and relationships — are both destroying and enriching his career.
While we have yet to see the pilot, of this we’re sure. Watching David Duchovny stare at a blank screen for an hour will be more entertaining [and far less confusing] than HBO’S train-wreck of a series JOHN FROM CINCINNATI. All together now — they cancelled DEADWOOD for this? CALIFORNICATION premieres this August on Showtime, stay tuned for details.
Smarter than the Average Bear: TV Addict Readers
Earlier today, two intrepid TV Addict readers commented on news well before it broke in the mainstream media.
Example #1, David posted: What happened to NBC giving repeats of Friday Night Lights on Sundays?
Well David, turns out that NBC’s new network president may not be smarter than the average bear. Following two weeks of repeats Ben Silverman has seemingly replaced reruns of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS with yet another LAW & snoORDER (get it? snoore! hehehe) rerun. No doubt this doesn’t bode well for the future of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS or at the very least, the new president’s confidence in the show.
Example #2, Common Sense posted: I’m glad Missy Peregrym has replaced Nikki Reed on Reaper. Nikki just didn’t seem quite “hot” enough…just best-friendly. Missy is hot.
Common Sense, are you channelling Hiro Nakamura’s time-traveling powers? Kudos for posting that ex-hero Missy Peregrym has been cast on REAPER before Reuters did. Dare we ask, is your real name actually Missy Peregrym? Now that would be hot.
Example #3… oh wait, no reader’s been smart enough to guess where in the world the TV Addict is. Aleks and Drax, thanks for playing, but as they say on TV… You’re Fired… umm, I mean thanks for trying, better luck next time.
Where in the World is the TV Addict?
In an effort to provide you with some of the most entertaining television coverage on the net, the TV Addict has once again left his humble abode in Toronto (Canada). Any guesses as to where I am? Here’s your first clue: The city, located in North America, is home to some of television’s most out-of-this-world heroes (and no, we’re not talking about the heroes from HEROES!) Check back later today with the answer.
Get Ready for a HEROES World Tour
By: Steve Czarnecki (theTVaddict.com West Coast Correspondent)
The approach to Stage 7 on the Sunset-Gower studios was an anticipated one this past Thursday morning. I was here to cover a last minute press conference regarding the NBC television series HEROES! There were rumors that talks about Season 2 would be taking place and as a fan of the show and a TV journalist, it was too good to pass up. I headed to the large soundstage where along the way I passed a giant heaping of set props I found familiar, the most recognizable were giant metal letters spelling out the name of Claire’s cheerleading home; Union Wells High School and a sign that said KIRBY PLAZA, the location of the climactic season 1 finale. I checked in and immediately I realized something big was going on…something worldwide…the clue was a humongous globe shaped cake with 7 cities flagged on it. Taking a quick glance around it wasn’t hard to miss Isaac Mendez’s NYC rooftop set and a large number of Asian wooden carts, wicker looking baskets, heaps of bows and arrows in another area of the stage. I sat myself down and eagerly anticipated what was to come in the minutes ahead.

You Be The Critic: THE BEST YEARS
Unfortunately there are a limited number of hours in the day, and lets face it, this TV Addict can only watch so much TV before his eyeballs fall out. With that in mind, I thought I’d once again let YOU be the critic and give you the opportunity to voice your opinion.
This Friday, The N takes another stab at DEGRASSI-sized success with THE BEST YEARS, the network’s first college-based drama. Click here to watch the first episode online and let us know if THE BEST YEARS is well, the best? Does the N have the next FELICITY on its hands? Or [I shudder to think] the next SAVED BY THE BELL: THE COLLEGE YEARS? You decide. THE BEST YEARS premieres this Friday June 29 at 8:30PM.

STARGATE Closes for Good
Hard as it is to believe, STARGATE SG-1 — one of the longer-running offerings in the sci-fi universe – has been airing for 10 years. However, that all comes to an end tonight with the series finale (airing at 8 p.m. ET on the Sci-Fi Channel), titled, appropriately enough, “Unending.” We say “appropriately enough” because the title works on several levels. First, to anyone not enamored of the series, the episode certainly feels as if it will never reach a conclusion. The plot might best be summed up by a line Lt. Colnel Cameron Mitchell (aka Ben Browder, who seems to still be playing Crichton, his role on the far superior FARSCAPE… and that’s a good thing): “It only sounds ridiculous until you hear yourself say, ‘I am stuck on a spaceship in a time dialation field.’” Perhaps to those who can’t get enough of the genre’s most over-used lingo (hyperdrive, time paradoxes and, of course, the ever-present-but-always-on-the-verge-of-failing shields), this will somehow be appealing. And about half-way through the finale, the plot — which involves Ori and altarian’s and ancients, oh my! — takes an interesting twist which, while not exactly original (FARSCAPE fans will no doubt be reminded of the classic episode “The Locket”) provides a glimpse into the future which will no doubt thrill fans… who probably won’t be all that surprised by the resolution which is both predictable and inexplicable in the way that only works of science fiction can be. Don’t expect a sentimental ending, or even the tying up of loose threads (after all, those can always be addressed in later movies or on the spin-off, STARGATE: ATLANTIS, which continues to chug along, airing its third season finale immediately following the mothership’s conclusion). But for those who’ve followed the show over the past decade, I suspect the episode will satisfy in a way that those of us who don’t know a Goa’uld from a Jaffa will never really understand.
