Were you Nuts for JERICHO?

On Friday, CBS re-aired the series premiere of JERICHO. The show’s return drew a rating of 3.2/6 at 9PM, which in plain english means ‘good enough to win it’s time-slot.’ Congratulations goes out to the fans of JERICHO — who not only saved their show, but helped lead CBS to a ratings victory on a slow Friday night.

Yet being the ‘glass-half-empty’ type of TV Addict, we can’t help but wonder how many of the viewers that tuned in Friday night were new to the show? While it’s great that JERICHO has a core audience of fiercely loyal fans, the key to the show’s long term success (ie. seeing a full second season) is attracting a much larger audience. Was ‘Nuts for JERICHO’ a flash-in-the-pan movement or did television viewers really sit back and wonder, “Hmmm, I probably should give this show a second look.”

If you were new to the world of JERICHO, post away in the comments below and let us know what you thought. Missed the premiere? It’s not too late! You can download the series premiere of JERICHO for free on iTunes by clicking here.

My hubby and I checked it out for the first time on Friday night (well, we time-shifted to Sunday, but same thing), based solely on the fact that it must be good if the fans are so nutso about it. It was alright, but I wasn’t instantly hooked or anything. I’ll continue to tune in for 2 or 3 more episodes, and see how I feel about it after that.

Jacki, promise me you will watch at least 2 or 3 eps AFTER the recap ep. the 2nd half of the season just exploded with action & drama really, and that’s what they are airing after the recap this week. This week is the recap PLUS the first episode after, so stick around! 🙂

  • Great story!

Just a little transposing of the numbers, tho … it was actually a 3.2/6, not a 2.3/6.

And believe it or not, these are pretty strong numbers for a rerun. The hype certainly helped, and CBS has definitely been marketing the show’s reruns.

Now the real test comes this coming Friday. Will people tune in to the recap and to Episode 13?

  • Michael, Thanks for the heads up on the numbers, my mistake… will be corrected.

And more importantly, looking for good summer TV, I’ll be jumping on the JERICHO bandwagon this Friday.

  • You still pose a great question …

I hope that the answer is “new viewers” and not “dedicated fans” in terms of who is watching.

We need to see great numbers going into the mid-season pickup!

    Always a fan …

I don’t really think the summer ratings mean anything. Every episode of Jericho is posted online and will also be available on DVD, not to mention the illegal ways of downloading the show. So we won’t know if the show has gained new fans until the new episodes.

Still, it is sort’ve cool to see that it won the timeslot Friday night. I’m a fan who is re-watching as CBS airs the season.

I was new and tuned into watch Jericho this past Friday. After hearing all about the sending in of the nuts and the fan victory I had to watch this show.

So I did, and I loved it, within the first half hour of the show I was yelling “Best Show EVER!” during the commercial breaks, I know that I’ll be checking in next season as well.

Well it is nice to see that the repeats are doing well. But I am hoping that some of those viewers are actually new fans. Can’t wait til midseason =).

Ack, ratings for Kyle XY repeats are down again! =(. ABC better keep it on their schedule for the remainder of the summer, cuz I don’t have ABC Family >
