2008 Golden Globe Winners

Since odds are good you missed tonight’s abbreviated Golden Globe Ceremony, here are the list of winners.

DRAMATIC TV SERIES: MAD MEN
TV Addict’s Take: The Hollywood Foreign Press loves to award television’s next big thing. How long until the rest of North America catches on?

BEST ACTOR TV DRAMA: JON HAMM, MAD MEN
TV Addict’s Take: We get it, Jon Hamm is television’s next big thing. But would it have killed the Hollywood Foreign Press to recognize the CURRENT big thing Michael C. Hall? It may, depending on how much award recognition means to Dexter Morgan.

BEST ACTRESS TV DRAMA: Glenn Close, Damages
TV Addict’s Take: As if there was any doubt.

TV SERIES, MUSICAL OR COMEDY: EXTRAS
TV Addict’s Take: Would I loved to have seen 30 ROCK win? Absolutely. That said, who can argue with the brilliance of Ricky Gervais’ follow up to THE OFFICE. Now the only question remaining is what’s he is going to do for an encore?

BEST ACTOR, TV MUSICAL OR COMEDY: DAVID DUCHOVNY, Californication
TV Addict’s Take: When you look like David Duchovny, you should need to do more than play an over-sexed, alcoholic, emotional train-wreck to win an award. Alec Baldwin was robbed.

BEST MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION: LONGFORD
TV Addict’s Take: I’m not even going to pretend to know what LONGFORD is.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MINISERIES OR A MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION: QUEEN LATIFAH
TV Addict’s Take: After last week’s People’s Choice Awards, I thought the only thing on “Life Support” was Queen Latifah’s career. Zing!

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MINISERIES OR A MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION: JIM BROADBENT
TV Addicts’ Take: So this LONGFORD thing’s apparently good, no?

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A SERIES, MINISERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION: SAMANTHA MORTON
TV Addict’s Take: Raise you hand if you actually saw LONGFORD.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A SERIES, MINISERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION: JEREMY PIVEN
TV Addict’s Take: How different is Jeremy Piven really from the narcissistic Hollywood agent he plays on ENTOURAGE? Ted Danson was robbed for his career rejuvenating turn as a narcissistic and power mad CEO.

  • It really sucks we didn’t get to hear Tina Fey’s acceptance speech — it would have been hilarious.

“It really sucks we didn’t get to hear Tina Fey’s acceptance speech — it would have been hilarious.”

I agree, that truly sucks big time, at least she won right….

  • Hil

Nothing related to Pushing Daisies won? Nothing related to Dexter? Meh.

the thing that bothers me the MOST is that I’ve never even HEARD of half of the shows or movies that are nominated!!! I don’t have HBO or SHOWTIME (on purpose), and so I don’t know anything about the majority of the shows. it makes the ones that DID win all the more distasteful. not only did I not get to see the ceremony, but the people / shows I was cheering for didn’t win. 🙁

  • Totally right about Tina Fey’s speech.

  • Linda B.

I was thrilled to see David Duchovny win. I love that show.

  • Josh Emerson

I was shocked and appalled to see Duchovny win that award. There were four phenomenal comedic actors nominated, yet he ends up winning? Did the voters with taste cancel each other out or something? Alec Baldwin was incredibly robbed. Why do these shows refuse to give him the awards he deserves?

I thought I would be pissed if 30 Rock lost, but I can’t help but be fine with Extras taking it. I just discovered this show recently and I loved it.

    I’m a UK reader. Hi 🙂

Longford was an incredible drama, with great performances but I’m really surprised it won so many awards, as it seems like such a UK-based drama to me, as well as one that was very difficult to watch. Perhaps it got extra votes for being so ‘brave’.

For those who don’t know it’s the true story of a pair of lovers (Ian Brady and Myra Hindley) who brutally raped, tortured and killed 5 children in the 1960s. Some of the bodies lay undiscovered for years and IIRC one is still missing. Lord Longford was a British peer and politician who devoted a long period of his life to trying to get Myra freed and rehabilitated.

  • Linda B., CALIFORNICATION was a good show and Duchovny in it, but I mostly question it being classified as a comedy. The award most definitely should have gone to Alec Baldwin for 30 ROCK.

theTVaddict, agree that Michael C. Hall should have got some foreign press love. Still can’t believe that DEXTER wasn’t even nominated in the Best Drama category.

  • Longford is really good, but reaaaaaaaaaaally depressing. And I could have sworn it was on HBO a long time ago. Oh well.

  • nessie

nothing for pushing daisies. thats crap i am sorry but the list of winners was predictable and when it wasnt it was just plain boring, nobody is going to remember them in 2 weeks

  • Muriel

Whoa! Longford sounds way intense and a lot disturbing. I am not sure what I think of the fact that the politician was trying to help pedophilles?! Must be some great writing, is all I can say.

  • kleber

Duchovny is amazing in Californication! congratulations to him. very well deserved and you must watch Californication. It’s brilliant.
