You Be the Critic: TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES & BROTHERS & SISTERS

terminator the sarah connor chronicles cast

After months of hype, FOX finally unleashed TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES. Not surprisingly, this TV Addict has a few question. Did it live up to the hype? Is Summer Glau not incredible? And most importantly, did last night’s pilot accomplish the most important goal of any pilot. Sufficiently hook you so that you’ll be tuning into tonight’s second episode? (Which in this TV Addict’s opinion is even stronger than the first.)

Moving on, last night’s episode of BROTHERS & SISTERS had all the ingredients for the perfect Walker evening. Mix a bunch of family secrets with a classic Walker family dinner. Add an ample supply of alcohol, plus a dash of awkwardness courtesy of newcomer Isaac. What do you get? The perfect way for BROTHERS & SISTER to kick off 2008. Agree/Disagree, Post away.

I thought it was a bit boring at times, and I really think Sarah Connor is miscast. She doesn’t seem tough enough to me.

I’ll tune in again tonight though. Not much else on.

  • OH MY GOD… this serie gonna be a hell of the best!! really like it… but my point of view will be complete tonight ^^.

Im gonna catch it every monday ^^

  • Okay, good, I hope tonight’s is good. I liked the pilot but I did find myself getting LESS interested as the episode continued. I know there’s the complaints that Summer Glau seems to weak but so far she’s my favorite thing about the show.

As for B&S, so awesome. They should just keep filming the Walkers at family dinners and leave it at that.

  • Vance,

If the writer’s strike continues, BROTHERS & SISTERS should try and improvised dinner episode! Sit everyone down and see what happens.

  • Sarah Connor was good enough to warrant me watching the 2nd ep tonight.

    Walker family dinners never disappoint.

Speaking of Sunday night TV…. How about some Rock of Love…love? I know it’s probably not deserving of front page news, but I can’t tear myself away from that terrible show lol. I think it warrants a recap now and then, due to the writer’s strike and there isn’t much else left!! Thoughts?! 😛

  • I liked the pilot, was pretty good to me. Plus, with all the hype, at first I was afraid for a new Bionic Woman mess, so yeah I was glad it wasn’t the case !

Casting wise, I do think Summer Glau is the best of them all, if I have a “problem” with miscast it would be with John Connor…

  • I thought Sarah Connor Chronicles was pretty cool and has great potential. I thought it was odd that the evil Terminator stopped hot pursuit for a good 5 seconds or more to say the corny line, “Class dismissed,” and yet after the time travel sequence, John didn’t make a remark about being creeped out by seeing his mom naked.

Did anyone else notice Sarah’s age on her police record? Supposedly, she’s 33, which means she would have had John when she was 18. I checked IMDb.com & Wikipedia, and Linda Hamilton was 28 in the first Terminator movie.

As for B&S, I thought that Nora’s crush on Danny Glover’s character was a bid forced and not well reciprocated either. Also, now that the real-life Presidential election is in full swing, it seems that much more unrealistic for Robert to be running against fictional opponents and making time to get married and attend family dinners instead of constantly being on the campaign trail. Ken Olin seems pretty cool, but it’s still hard to tell just why they’re bothering to bring him in. Those nitpicks aside, it is a good show.

  • Todd.

I completely agree with you with regards to B&S. The show isn’t THE WEST WING. We know Robert’s not going to the White House (although, I would be completely up for a WEST WING spinoff with Robert and Kitty!) That said, it’s time to end this Presidential run, because everybody knows the plot’s not going anywhere.

It was great seeing Terminator in HD last night. I’m glad we’ll finally get to see the second episode tonight! Summer Glau is great. Although seeing her makes me miss The 4400. 🙁

B&S family meals are always awesome. But I agree that they need to quit with the presidential run. Having him be the front-runner makes it seem especially obvious and cliche.

I enjoyed Sarah Connor Chronicles way more than I was expecting to, and am pretty amped up for tonight, actually. Clearly, Bionic Woman set the bar pretty low for the genre this year, so SCC only benefits from that comparison…

  • It didn’t rock my world, but the ending did grab me, that was good. So YES I will be watching tonight

And Summer was sublime, as always, but I’m biased.

  • I think they did a great job on the pilot. They focused heavy on the action to hook people in and I hope they keep the action up, but I would also have liked a tiny bit more on this “engineer” bit, but I imagine that’s why they did that.

I think they did the right thing doing a 2 night premiere like this letting people get 2 hours of the show right up front to get them hooked on it. It’s worked for other shows and I hope it works for this one.

And Summer seems to be the go to gal for super bad assery but innocent looking girl. The only thing that could have made this better is if this was on Showtime or HBO and the scene where they went to 2007 was full frontal. But hey, that’s just nit picking 😉 I liked the show so far.

  • I was looking forward to Sarah Connor Chronicles for some time since I’m a fan of the first two movies (not so much the third). Sadly, the show could not maintain my short attention span. I agree with others that Sarah Connor seemed like a miscast.

  • For me, Whedon alumni generate a temporary built in loyalty regardless of quality. Having said that, they will need to firm up the characters. I personally couldn’t care less if John dies, savior or no.

  • Chronicles has much potential. Being that the story is already known with an established future, it’s not going to have that wow factor. But as a series it can get an audience into the psyhe and inner struggles of the characters and explore that angle, which can be really intense and because of that depth, it has yet to be explored in the movies.

As the titile suggest, the show will be hinged on the Sarah Connor character, but not just her toughness but the struggle with training and protecting humanities savior, raising a son as normal as possible and simutaneously trying to stop all this from happening to begin with.

With that said Lena Headly is cast correctly, because she can convey an inner strength and at the same time vulnerability which she did very well. Let the action, stunts and effects handle the outter strength.

I also think that Johns desire to have a normal life should be a little more contained. And sooner or later they need to put a gun in his hand, this life is all he’s basically known, we need to see that.

And as for Summer, who else can pull off sweetness, sexiness and kick ass.

To Todd W in NC, Linda Hamilton was 27, 28 but not Sarah Connor, she was 19 or so. They did however say she was 5’4″ on the FBI screen and 5’5″ on the terminator’s screen- good eye though, unlike most you do pay attention.

  • Patrick

I loved the Sarah Connor Chronicles. The only thing that is a little weird is the whole idea of them rewriting the timeline, because in T3 there was no mention of another time when Terminators came back other than T1 and T2…
So really, this show is dismissing T3.
I do like that cast. I was a bit weary of Sarah at first, but then I started seeing her doing those “Get Down!” lines etc…and just totally reminded me of the old Sarah. What i do like about this shows, is that when 4 and 5 movies come out…I will be more open to a new cast and not be expecting Eddie Furlong, Linda Hamilton or Arnie. Hamilton was and always will be the best…she was amazing in the first 2…I like how we’re seeing continuity in characters like Dyson’s family…etc..

  • SCC has much potential. Since the story and it’s future is already known, it’s not going to have that wow factor. It can however, explore the psyhe of the characters and their intense situation. Depths that the movies could not or just did not explore.

As the title suggest, the show will be hinged on the Sarah Connor character, but not her toughness, but rather her inner struggle of protecting and trianning a future savior, raising a son as normal as possible and trying to stop all of this from happening to begin with.

With that said Lena Headey is cast correctly. She can convey that inner strength and yet vulnerability. There were some really good scenes that showed this. Let the action, stunts and effects handle the outter strength.

John ‘s normal life desire shouldn’t be so surfaced. and I think they need to put a gun in his hand, this life is all he’s basically known, we need to see that.

As for Summer, who else could pull off sweetness, sexiness and kick ass.

To Todd W in NC Linda Hamilton was 27, 28 but not Sarah Connor who was 19 or so. The show did however show her being 5’4″ on the FBI computer screen and 5’5″ on the terminator’s screen- good eye though, unlike most u pay attention.

I missed B&S because I didn’t realize it was on. All I saw was the eps of Extreme Home Makeover so I thought there was nothing new. I feel so dumb.

  • josh r

I thought that it was a very good show…… i am prolly going to watch the rest of the season. It is a great show. i really like it. I think it lived up to the huge hype.

    “I won’t be back”

  • Sarah Connor was good enough to warrant me watching the 2nd ep tonight.
