Jenny’s TV Guide: Friday April 11

Friday marks the 90-minute series premiere of The Sarah Jane Adventures on SciFi at 7:30/6:30c. If features Sarah Jane Smith, a companion of the Third and Fouth incarnations of the Doctor from the original series of Doctor Who. Elisabeth Sladen reprises her role and is back in action, discovering alien plots to take over the world, or simply helping lost extraterrestrials get home. Aided by her new young friend, Maria Jackson (Yasmin Paige), and her newly (and genetically engineered) adopted son Luke Smith (Tommy Knight), Sarah Jane has no problem taking on any challenge!

It’s also the season finale of one of the game shows on primetime that I’ve enjoyed the most (certainly tons more than the (fake) Truth one. lol), Amne$ia on NBC at 8/7c. Dennis Miller has been great as a host and I hope it comes back in the summer. It would be a fun summer show.

I am happy to see the Sarah Jane Adventures has made the jump to Scifi. She was one of my favorite companions as a kid and while her show is directed more at kids I found what I saw of it pretty enjoyable. Much better than a lot of kid stuff here. Definitely worth a look if you like the new Doctor Who.

  • I agree that it’s definitely worth a look, bear in mind that tonight’s episode (Invasion of the Bane) was a one-off special in the UK and the series proper started months later, after changing one of the cast members. So, next week’s episode gives you a much better idea of what to expect each week. Also, DON’T read the episode guides on the Sci-Fi Channel website, they contain some pretty serious spoilers.

Sarah Jane was always one of my favourites as well, I’ve written about her here:

It’ll be interesting to see how well Sci-Fi do with this show, as it isn’t typical of their output. I suspect they may only have bought it because of the strike. There’s another series current filming in the UK, and it would be nice if Sci-Fi picked that up as well.
