CBS Gets its End of Season Report Card

CBS, the network that has yet to meet a procedural it couldn’t turn into a ratings smash continued to play to their strength by adding three new ones to their just announced Fall schedule. Joining THE MENTALIST (which is moving to Thursday at 10PM), CRIMINAL MINDS, COLD CASE and their 37 CSI spin-offs is the NCIS spinoff titled LOS ANGELES, the Juliana Margulies legal drama THE GOOD WIFE and THREE RIVERS — the medical drama starring some guy who fans may remember from that Vampire show MOON-something-or-other (Now, will you stop emailing us to Save MOONLIGHT!?)

On the comedy front comes the much buzzed about Jenna Elfman laugher ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE and

As I said before in an earlier post – CBS, you can suck it! You ruined my Friday nights!

  • Scott

I love The Big Bang Theory. Best new sitcom in years. I am glad it was renewed.

  • Common Sense

How many shows do I, personally, classify as “must see” on CBS? Zero.

If I’m awake & have nothing better to do, I’ll catch CSI Miami. Also like new episodes of 48 Hours. Ghost Whisperer is OK time-filler, for those home on Fri. The loss of Moonlight is immense, and the network will undoubtedly suffer for it. Moonves, just watch your viewers boycott the Friday lineup!

If Password were on more often, I’d watch. Especially if Betty White and Doogie play more often. They are 2 of TV’s greatest treasures & people.

As a big fan of Buffy/Angel/Supernatural, I was really interested in the premiere of Moonlight. I watched a couple of episodes early in its season… and still don’t not understand why people seem to think it’s so great. I understand giving a show time but… I couldn’t imagine sitting through any more of it.

  • Kim Bullock

I couldn’t agree more about Moonlight. Fans have not given up, though. There is a poll over on Moonlightline.com right now – set up at the request of DirecTV. Please go over there and vote if you are a fan.

Hey, I didn’t appriciate the over forty remark! I am an addicted fan of Moonlight and have joined other fans, of all ages, in trying to save the show. I am not interested in the rest of CBS’s line up. This “bad” move on CBS’s part has also lost them a lot of loyal viewers.

CBS turned off eight million viewers who used to tune in on Friday nights when it cancelled Moonlight.

I can’t conjure how this is an insignificant loss in ratings now that Moonlight is off the air (are you winning the Friday night time slot now, Ms. Tassler?) Maybe the share price is just so high it doesn’t matter when good shows get gone … whoops. Maybe not.

The B- score for CBS’s report card is generous. The network that recognizes the value of Moonlight and the dedicated fan base that goes along with it will most definitely earn top marks next term.

  • MissyS

Couldn’t agree more…still can’t believe that CBS axed Moonlight……the one new show that week after week, even after the writers strike, kept getting better and getting us more hooked! It had so many international fans too who are mouring the loss of the show. Bad move CBS.

  • elljaybee

You said it!! Worst business move in years, cancelling Moonlight. And for what??? A boring, sub-standard lineup. I will be following Moonlight and its supporters anywhere it goes. And that includes my spending habits. Thanks for hitting the nail on the head!!

  • Sara

CBS made a bad move cancelling Moonlight. It is a great show that took it’s demographics and was a great show for CBS. It has not where to go but up. Moonlight fans will continue to fight to find it a good home.

  • Theresa Greipp

CBS has lost a very loyal viewer when they cancelled Moonlight!! One of the best new shows on in a very long time and they cancel it!! I will follow Moonlight to whatever network picks it up along with 8+ million viewers that CBS has lost.

  • Josh Emerson

THE GOOD: How I Met Your Mother and Old Christine are the two absolute funniest “traditional” sitcoms on the air today. They’re so good that they come close to matching the quality of the single-camera shows like 30 Rock and The Office. CBS can also be praised for giving Jericho fans 7 more episodes of the show.

THE BAD: Jericho got cancelled. Again. That, and the fact that the rest of their lineup bites. I don’t know how they remain the highest rated network.

  • MARILOUISE

I think the B- is a little high. CBS has hour after hour of the same crime dramas as the other networks which for me equates it to a C. They did not renew Moonlight and screwed with Jericho and for those 2 moves alone they drop to a F in my book.

  • Hil

Moonlight was the only reason I bothered with CBS. It was the perfect Friday night show. Their lineup otherwise doesn’t interest me. My grandpa watches CSI though. He also watches Walker Texas Ranger reruns. CBS should look into acquiring the rights to it to complete the week-long snore fest.

  • Moonlighter

I really don’t know what CBS was looking for–Moonlight had a fresh concept, it won its time slot, won the People’s Choice Award–cancelling it was not a smart move on CBS’ part by any means. I think the grade of B- they received here was MUCH too high. I know another network will pick Moonlight up and that’s what channel I’ll be watching, not CBS–that’s for sure

  • SimplyKimberly

My biggest heartbreaks this past season were Journeyman and Moonlight. How CBS could cancel this show when it held on to its audience post-strike, won the People’s Choice Awards and had a really hot lead in Alex O’Loughlin is a mystery to me.

I don’t watch much of anything on CBS because their entire lineup is so stale and formulaic, but Moonlight was the rare exception.

    Bad CBS, really really bad!

  • Jake

Mark my words, Nancy Tassler and Les Moonves: MOONLIGHT will be your network’s EVERWOOD, the show that will turn the public’s tide against your arrogant, staid old operation.

Wonder why CBS seems to have so many viewers? Their audience–OLD, OLD PEOPLE–are either too incapacitated to get up from their recliners to switch the dial on their relic TVs….or they can’t figure out how to change the channel on the remote. Or they fell asleep with the set on and couldn’t care less. Yeah! Tout those 49-84 demos, Les! We all know that “those” folks with all the money are out spending like drunken sailors! Psyche! Not! Ha ha ha ha ha….joke’s on you, jerk.

  • still can’t believe how they can axe a show that had tv guide’s hottest actor, had millions and fans and can still draw this kind of reaction from people, just look at these replies, it’s been well over a month since the news and people aren’t over it, i for sure am still not!!!!

  • Hey, watch the age there Jake, I’m 52 and I liked Moonlight a lot, and I
don’t fall asleep early either buddy ! I loved Moonlight and it was a good
show, so was shark and Jerricho. I don’t watch a lot of CBS buddy boy,
I watch Ghost Hunters, Supernatural, ect…… I’m peed off too but I don’t
take it out on you young ones ! Face it, CBS has lost it’s perspective for
picking good shows, maybe Tassler should step down and let someone
else pick the shows. CBS = Crapy Bad Shows !!

  • Septbday

I can’t believe CBS dumped Moonlight. They should dump Nina Tassler instead! I wonder now if Nina is missing the little 8 million+ fan base Moonlight had? CBS is no longer welcome in my home!!!

  • CC

I dont think so, clearly you werent a Moonlight fan. They deserve an F.

  • Cara

The cancellation of Moonlight still has 8M + people upset and just waiting for CBS to roll out their Fall lineup to be boycotted on Friday nights. Bad move Nina! I originally watched the season premier of GW last Fall to keep in touch and stayed tuned to watch Monnlight thinking it would be not worth the time. I was hooked from the get go and became one of those fans who CBS are so ready to dismiiss as being rabid idiots who just need to move on and watch their inane lineup of sex crazed swingers and silly women who have to find a man to be complete. Way to go! If I bother to turn on my TV Friday nights from now on, you can bet it won’t be CBS! I will vote with my remote.
Yes Moonlight had diverse appeal, won awards and raves from viewers and critics but that means nothing to CBS. It had romance, drama, and great eye candy but it means nothing. CBS deserves a F for their mismanagenemt of a show with such potential and misreading of what people want to see.
