i think the reason Kings didn’t do so well in the ratings, and someone else pointed this out on a previous thread, was that it wasn’t real clear from the previews what the show was about. I didn’t feel the previews pulled me in enough to start watching the show.

  • Ace

Linda — I couldn’t agree more. I actually thought the show was going to be awful from the previews. But I have this thing where I hate missing the premiere of a show and then it being good and me being left out. Like , what if you had missed the first LOST?? That would have been awful. So unless a show looks absolutely like something I would never want to watch, I usually catch the first two-three episodes. So I was glad I followed my rule. Hopefully tehy will re-air the premiere so others can catch it.

Ouch, that’s awful. Only a 1.6 in the demo. :( I really enjoyed Kings too.

Kings ratings = people are stupid

Maybe the good shows should just stay on HBO and premium cable channels. The ratings you need to get to stay on a regular network channel can only be attained if you manage to attract the unwashed masses. And who cares about them anyway? I normally don’t watch a minute of tv on Sunday nights because nothing is on. I did watch Kings though and was excited to have something to watch. I am hoping they decide to play the rest of the episodes because I think most of it is already in the can, right?

Let’s put it this way: I watch ZERO dramas on NBC. NONE. Except for The Office and 30 Rock (and occasionally SNL), I have NO reason two ever switch to NBC.

Until now. KINGS was awesome, and I will not miss an episode as long as the Peacock continues its run. Man, think of the great TV people miss out on.

  • Ted

Yeah, this is pretty dissapointing, Kings was really just excellent. Hopefully it can go against the grain and somehow gain in popularity. It really is a excellent show, I just wish people could be more open minded about new shows that aren’t “reality” or “(Insert random acronym here) crime drama”. I’ve going to keep pushing it on my friends, its just such a great show.

    I enjoyed it… I’m sure it’ll catch on!

I’m not surprised, it was a stupid idea for NBC to premier this show so late in the season. Does anything ever succeed when it first airs even past “mid-season”?

  • Ace

Naf — Grey’s Anatomy started about this time in 2005. I realize that now it is less than loved (ratings are still good though), but it was beloved when it first started and the ratings immediately soared.

form and substance! The intrigue of Shaekspear in a modern interpretation of a Monarchy…or what? Ian Mcshane is worth the whole series, he is perfect in this role. Interesting, smart and complex, hope the rest of the series does not get boged down with too much melodrama and keeps up the imagination and originality…hard to do on network tv. My fingers are crossed for the rest of the season

Unfortunately, this isn’t a formula drama. You actually have to think when when you watch it. Too much effort.

I hope HBO picks it up whe NBC cancels it

  • Srenco

What’s with that stupid Moth Flag? Looks like some Communist Chinese thing. I got better things to watch.

I love Kings. It’s a great show. I love this show so much that I have blogged about it and am making my family and friends watch it.

Kings is a great show. NBC screwed up by changing the original time slot from Thursdays to Sundays and then not telling anyone about it. I have yet to see and NBC ad that states Kings airs on Sundays at 8pm. The only ad I saw recently was in the Southwest Airlines magazine that states the original air time as Thursdays.

The show is wonderfully written, directed and casted. Yes you have to think and I find that refreshing. There is a lot of symbolism and foreshadowing, losely based on the Bible’s David and Goliath.

II really hope that more people will catch on to this show and start watching. I hate to think that it might get canceled because NBC is retarded in their advertising.

PS to Srenco: the flag is a butterfly, not a moth.

I have yet to read a bad review on this site. Part of the reason for the poor ratings is that Sunday nights are hardly the place for primetime dramas. I believe that Kings was actually envisioned as a mid-season replacement for ER when went off the air in March, but for some reason, NBC decided to bump the schedule and premiere it early. Given the reception it’s received by those who actually WATCH the show, look for NBC to fiddle with it’s timeslot before it makes any decisions on the show. With NBC’s current slate of flops, I don’t see Kings going anywhere unless it fails abysmally. Look for it next fall, likely in the 8 PM Thursday timeslot..

Case in point -> Heroes hasn’t had a decent episode since season 1 and it’s ratings are through the floor. It’s STILL being renewed for a fourth (though likely last, if things keep up as they are) season.

  • Ryan

Agreed on all points. I don’t watch much TV, but really enjoy Kings and will be watching every episode so long as it is on.

I don’t know much about the TV industry, but it seems the network made some tactical errors in its release, which led to underwhelming ratings. I think if they adjust the time and do some better promos, it could improve.

The show has superior writing and acting. I for one will be watching it so long as it is on.

I was intrigued by the ads for Kings, so I set my DVR to record the premiere. I watched it and had mixed feelings.. now that i’ve a few more episodes have aired I’m hooked. It’s a great show, very very refreshing. It’s not Heroes and that’s a good thing. Hopefully NBC doesn’t can this show. They could can Heroes for all I care. TJ was right about Heroes not being worth anything after Season 1. Maybe they should rename it Lost cause I am.

Kings is one of the best shows I have seen in a long Long LONG time!!! I can’t imagine NBC cancelling this show… there are a lot of stupid shows airing righ this minute, I don’t see how Kings could be cancelled for any of those garbage.

I know the executives at NBC will still do their thing no matter what, but I feel I need to play my part to keep this show alive.

Bottom line,”NBC do the right thing – Keep KIngs on the air”

  • Lauren

This is an awesome show! I loved it from the first episode, now they are keepiong it from the air until Summer. I agree with you guys they should have held off releasing it, but it is awesome and I may have to boycott the peacock if they are stupid enough to cancel this show.

I really liked Kings. I don’t think it was given a chance. It was like someone didn’t want it to work. It should be starting now after the other shows finally . TV has cluttered the material available to watch. They make it impossible to see shows you like. Some nights there are 3 on all at the same time.. 3 favorites. !!!

“Kings” is one of the best TV dramas I’ve seen in a long time. It’s well written, engaging, and offers a very cool spin on an ancient story of intrigue and violence. NBC is catering to the lowest common denominator when it cancels art like this. If NBC won’t pick it up I hope one of the cable networks will. It’s that good.
