CBS Unveils Their Fall 2009 Schedule

CBS, the network that has yet to meet a procedural it couldn’t turn into a ratings smash continued to play to their strength this morning by announcing the addition of three new ones to their 2009 Fall schedule. Joining THE MENTALIST (which is moving to Thursday at 10PM), CRIMINAL MINDS, COLD CASE and their 37 CSI spin-offs is the NCIS spinoff titled LOS ANGELES, the Juliana Margulies legal drama THE GOOD WIFE and THREE RIVERS β€” a medical drama starring some guy [Alex O’Loughlin] who fans may remember from that Vampire show MOON-something-or-other (Now, will you stop emailing us to Save MOONLIGHT!?)

On the comedy front comes the much buzzed about Jenna Elfman laugher ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE and a shuffling of the deck chairs on Monday night with HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER moving to 8PM and THE BIG BANG THEORY being awarded CBS’ most coveted time-slot, the big 9:30PM slot following TWO AND A HALF MEN.

So I guess that answers what happened to Medium! Looks like I’ll be continuing the trend of only watching How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory. And even then I only watch those in repeats. I also think it is kind of strange that they are putting the two NCIS’s back to back.

  • all my shows are still there so i’m not complaining but NCIS: Los Angeles? Really? I don’t even know where NCIS is set. For all I know it could have already been in LA. And they’re back to back? EPIC FAIL.

  • Yahoo! Three Rivers Picked up! Yea for Alex O’Loughlin! And on Sunday nite? I LOVE IT! Congrats to Alex!!!!

  • John

NCIS is set in the Washington, D.C. area.

  • Great!!! Three Rivers is picked up! I am so happy, because Alex O’Loughlin really deserves to be on screen in a regular schedule! Congrats to Alex!

Bye, bye, The Unit. Bye, bye, CBS.

(except for HIMYM, which I’ll download and not watch your publicity)

  • Ace

Yeah, NCIS is in D.C. I know this b/c in the few episodes I have seen they quickly transport themselves back and forth between their office and Norfolk, VA or the Chesapeake Bay, which is at least 2 hours from D.C. πŸ˜›

  • Ace

Oh and we definitely have tons of Navy personnel in Norfolk that could take care of investigations. Oh TV…

  • Marisa

I’m very happy with the wonderful news, I think that the day and hour of emisΓ³n they are very good.
Alex deserves to have a big succes, today it is a great day. Bravo Alex, congratulations!!!

Gotta give CBS credit: Picking up Medium from NBC was brilliant. The Peacock has mishandled that show since the beginning, just like ABC did with Commander-n-Chief and FOX did with Arrested Development. Medium fits like a glove out of Ghost Whisperer; but CBS created their own 9pm problem when they axed Moonlight. Still no excuse for that.

But other networks, take note: CBS is serious about playing on Friday nights. Even ABC become a player by moving Ugly Betty there. Maybe it’s time you all realize that millions and millions of people STAY HOME AND STAY UP LATE WATCHING TV on (gasp!) FRIDAYS! Why not try putting some actual programming there (CW!) and make some freakin’ money.

  • EXCELLENT NEWS for ALEX O’LOUGHLIN and THREE RIVERS! I can’t wait to see Alex again on CBS! Congratulations!

  • NCIS:LA? Another procedural crime drama with a 6-letter initial playing back-to-back with the show from which it was spun off… That seems like a really bizarre choice.

CBS has Miami Trauma. NBC has just plain Trauma. CBS has Flashpoint. ABC has Flash Forward.

And, Medium hops networks. This is going to be a weird TV season. Regardless, the only shows I watch on CBS are Survivor and occasionally the late night shows.

Does anybody know if this means The Unit got cancelled? I havn’t heard anything about it being renewed or cancelled but obviously I do not see it in their lineup.

THREE RIVERS with Alex O’Loughlin!!!!! Happy days!!

KUDOS TVA, I read the CBS scoop here first! πŸ™‚ I might have to stop blog cheating.

I’m a little disappointed that Adam Carolla didn’t get his show “Ace in the Hole” picked up. I really enjoy his work and he had Pamela Adlon (Californication) playing his wife.

So really not much happening on this CBS schedule. Added a spin-off procedural, a legal drama, and a medical drama. And the Jenna Elfman comedy. Now that’s risk taking!

So Friday at 9 is Medium vs. Dollhouse vs. Ugly Betty?

  • THREE RIVERS with Alex O’loughlin!!! Very Excited and very Hapyy for Alex:)

  • Molly

Does anyone know why The Unit isn’t on there fall line up? That was one of my favorite shows. I hope they change there mind it was a really good show.

Why do the good ones leave us? You would think with 24’s success something like The Unit would survive. I gues it was too clean for our audience today πŸ™
