Question of the Day: The GREY’S ANATOMY Season Finale

This just posted scoop on the rumored fate of George O’Malley just reminded me of a question I’ve been meaning to throw out there since GREY’S ANATOMY’s recent season finale.

What made you angrier: The manner in which Shonda Rhimes may have written off T.R. Knight, or the fact that as an ER fan from way back, you still didn’t manage to see that coming?

I wasn’t upset that he was off’d in that manner. But was FLOORED that I didn’t see it coming…… all.

  • Kristen

I think that was a great way to go out! I also think the reason it affected me so much is because I didn’t see it coming! I wasn’t even thinking that we might have known John Doe! I still get chills thinking about it!

  • I still can’t figure out why George didn’t have ID on him.

I saw it coming when George just disappeared for half the episode. Saddly I think most people didn’t see it coming b/c it was normal for George to just be absent. Which makes me sad b/c in the first two seasons he was one of my favorites. I hope he doesn’t get written off the show, but I’m pretty sure that’s where this is going.

The way he was written off. I saw it coming two miles off, when the woman he saved was telling them what happened.

The question for me now is, will Shonda re-cast George, like when Jack Coleman was written out of Dynasty?

  • It was Al Corley that was written out of Dynasty. Jack Coleman replaced him after heavy plastic surgery.

I was more upset that I didn’t see it coming. Too think about it now, it’s so obvious, but when it happened my jaw dropped.
I still wish he wasn’t leaving the show though…Or at least I wish he didn’t go out so fast. If the season premiere next season at least has him fighting for his life a bit I think I’d be happier.

For whatever reason, I recognized his eyes when he first looked at Meredith right after they stabilized him the first time, which meant I was freaking out for an entire hour. With all the Izzie hype, I had totally forgotten that George was a possible write off, so I was upset with myself!!

  • Lori

I am just so saddened that George’s character is likely not coming back. I did not see it coming and usually I can guess the ending way before the show is over. I am still thrown when I think about it. The character of George really added to the show with his kind and smart personality. I will be sad to see him go.

I do have a question, I was not watching when they first gave him the nickname 007. Can someone explain that to me what it meant?

  • Kristen

In the first episode, he assisted on an apendectomy and all the other interns were taking bets on how long he would last as an intern, practically mirrored in the finale when everyone was saying how long they thought George would last in Iraq. At some point, George made a mistake while assisting, leading the interns to call him 007, referring to James Bond and his License To Kill.

I also wanna add to my earlier comment that the whole episode, I was sitting there waiting for a big twist because the episode was too uneventful for a season finale and I still didn’t see it coming! I don’t know how it got past me! I knew when they focused on his eye, it was supposed to be significant, I just didn’t put all the pieces together, I guess!
