MediaCurves.com conducted a study asking 500 Americans who they wanted to win this year’s 61st Emmy awards earlier this month. While the results found that that 42% of viewers favored Fox’s ‘House’ for the best drama and 24% favored ABC’s ‘Lost’, the Emmy Award went to AMC’s Mad Men, which was the viewer’s third pick with 13% of the votes. More in depth results can be seen at: http://www.mediacurves.com/Entertainment/J7522b-Emmy-Awards/Index.cfm
Thanks,
Ben

To support your theory, I think Lost won for its freshman year. The first year was a really great start for show that different. Seasons 2 & 3 were kind of a mixed bag, so it's a shame that Mad Men is *allegedly* so good these past two years because Lost has been at its best in its 4th & 5th seasons.

Moonlighting... Thirtysomething... same thing. :) Yep, you're right. My bad. I don't know any history beyond that but the one thing this shows is that Emmy loves freshman shows.

I never watched Picket Fences but it sounded delightfully weird. And seeing as it took place in Wisconsin, where I'm from - actually about 25 miles away if they were accurate, I should jump on that.

Ah, The West Wing, The Practice, and Picket Fences -- three of my all-time, top 10 favorite shows. And, L.A. Law I'd count as an honorable mention.

Are you sure it was Moonlighting? According to Wikipedia, it was Thirtysomething that landed in the middle of the L.A. Law streak.

A lot of repeats this year. Cranston and Close, 30 Rock and Mad Men. Mad Men is the most captivatingly boring show in the history of television. It is also in the wheelhouse of everyone who votes for the Emmys, really a brilliant idea for a show in that regard.

Anyone up for some EMMY trivia? What's the last show to go back to back Best Drama in its first two years? Well, it's not as rare as I thought. Correct me if my info is wrong, but West Wing won for its first 4 seasons, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. The Practice went back-to-back in seasons 1-2 in 1998 and 1999. And Picket Fences went back-to-back in 1993 and 1994. An asterisk could be given to LA Law which won 4 of 5 years from 1987-1991 but missed year 2 to Moonlighting.

So pretty much I was wrong about every award except Michael Emerson :-P. Some went better than I expected (Kristen Chenoweth), and some worse (Jon Cryer).
