Heather Locklear Returns to MELROSE PLACE, History Repeats Itself in More Ways Than One

After saving the original MELROSE PLACE from the brink of cancellation almost two decades ago, history is about to repeat itself thanks to this morning’s announcement that has Heather Locklear set to reprise her role as scheming vixen Amanda Woodward on the CW’s fledgling MELROSE PLACE re-boot starting November 17.

And while our inner-teenaged TV Addict — you know, the one that was so obsessed with MELROSE PLACE that we actually had this poster (pictured above) on our wall is really really excited — our slightly older and far more realistic inner-adult TV Addict is worried. Especially when you take into account the CW’s press release that touts Heather Locklear joining “original castmates Laura Leighton, Thomas Calabro, Josie Bisset and Daphne Zuniga in the updated version for The CW.” Note the absence to any next generation tenants such as the deliciously manipulative Katie Cassidy or our favorite hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold Stephanie Jacobsen. It’s almost as if the proverbial powers that be learned absolutely nothing from the mistakes of re-boots past (see: 90210) and have yet to realize that for the updated version of MELROSE to truly succeed, it’s going to have to do so standing on its two feet rather than continuously rely on the occasional guest spot from [insert original cast member] here.

Of course, these are the execs who cancelled the delightful PRIVILEGED for the vapid and pointless MODELS INC. clone THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE: TBL. So it’s possible, asking them to ‘learn’ from past mistakes is simply asking too much.

Well, your theory is all well & good, TVA…but it’s no secret that from the moment this show was announced, the only thing people have been interested in was seeing Heather back on the show. If it takes Ms. Locklear to bring new eyes to a very well-produced series, then so be it. I’ve had a love/hate thing with Heather since she began giving my “boo,” Joan Collins, a rivalry on Dynasty. Come to think of it, I sure wouldn’t be opposed to seeing Joan stir up some drama on THIS show. No one does wicked like Joan and Heather. :)

I’m warming up to the new “melrose place’ but like the original, it’s taking off slow. lol Heather’s coming back will only add to the buzz and get people to watch. But I agree with YOU, this new show needs the NEW characters to be viable and so far, they’re not besides a few aka Cassidy.

However, from the orignal, Laura Leighton always was my favourite, but having Heather on board for Sweeps should hopefully boost viewing figures… and as much as I hate to admit it, Melrose needs all the help it can get to continue into a second season…

Tonight’s episode was a total snoozefest until the last scene. Heather can’t get here soon enough.

Hope Heather Locker’s return can save the show….this show has been great so far, and last night’s episode was the best yet. I couldn’t believe it when I read on Perez Hilton that the ratings are taking a big dive which is so stupid because this show is just getting better…so come on people stop being so LAME!

I was so glad they had Taryn Manning guest star last night – love her! She even pulled a gun on Jonah as they played the Boomkat song “Run Boy” – it was so great. There’s some videos of Taryn and company doing dance rehearsals for the Melrose Place episode floating around on YouTube ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Im5HQAO5yM ). Makes me so envious of her dancing…*sigh. Bring Taryn back for more episodes and let’s make Heather a full-time, permanent cast member again!
