They didn't seem to want to fully eradicate human life - after all, they actively harvested capable women for pregnancy farms and attracted human suitors to experiment with reproduction. The plan only failed in so far as the surviving humans did not accept cylon dominance and repeatedly rebelled (Anders on Caprica, Tigh, etc., on New Caprica) The plan was definitely procreation – likely through a fully subjugated human race. I don't think any of them foresaw the Cylon civil war or the awakening of the final five. God, I can't wait to see this!
