Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Positives That Might Come Out of UGLY BETTY’s Cancellation
Thanks to fourth season creative resurgence, UGLY BETTY, unlike HEROES, PRISON BREAK and/or NIP/TUCK will go out on top. Particularly since…
…ABC had the courtesy to inform BETTY’s producers early enough to ensure they’ll have the time necessary to craft a satisfying conclusion to the series. Said both the network and producers in a statement released earlier today, “We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this UGLY BETTY’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”
Creator Silvio Horta will soon have the free time necessary to develop the Marc (Michael Urie) and Amanda (Becki Newton) spin-off fans have been clamouring for. Said Horta in a recent interview with theTVaddict.com, “Obviously I think Michael [Urie] and Becki [Newton] are amazing but my focus right now is keeping this show going and getting it to a fifth season. That said, anything is possible and of course, out of all the character on the show that have spin-off potential, Marc and Amanda are the most natural choices. They’re terrific and the amazing chemistry they’ve got is so rare.”
Good News, Bad News: GILMORE GIRLS, HEROES & SMALLVILLE
Good News: GILMORE GIRLS creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and executive producer Dan Palladino are returning to the CW, with the network giving the green light to their UNTITLED WYOMING PROJECT which is said to revolve around a family horse farm in the Midwest. Bad News: For the future of Sherman-Palladino’s HBO series, remember that? [Source]
Good News: HEROES is making headlines for something other than its sinking ratings. Bad News: Adrian Pasdar busted for a DUI.
Good News: For SMALLVILLE fans, who thanks to today’s announcement by the CW that they’ve picked up a reboot of the 90’s action-thriller LA FEMME NIKITA may have found the ideal time slot companion for a possible 10th season of their favorite show. Bad News: For those of us who were hoping the success of LIFE UNEXPECTED might have paved the way for more original ideas on the network that has yet to meet a book, movie and/or 90’s franchise with name recognition that they haven’t wanted to turn into a hit. Inside BONES 100th Episode Celebration
Rather than remain bitter that our invitation to yesterday’s BONES Milestone 100th Episode Celebration so clearly got lost in the mail (Not to mention the fact that after almost four years of blogging we haven’t earned enough for our very own private jet!) this TV Addict thought we’d take the high road by sharing with you a few fantastic behind-the-scenes photos from inside the party.

Channel Surfing: LOST, CHUCK, BROTHERS & SISTERS & More!
After yet another hilarious (albeit low rated) instalment of BETTER OFF TED last night, this TV Addict thought now might be as good a time as any to offer up a tiny glimmer of hope for fans of the show. One, and let’s face it, possibly the only reason why BETTER OFF TED may live to see another season is that the show, which features a mere five series regulars and what essentially amounts to one moderately sized ‘office’ set is more than likely one of the most affordable comedies to produce on network television. Which one would think (hope?) — in this day and age of belt tightening and economic restraint — has to count for something… right, ABC President Steve McPherson?
With apologies in advance to Michael Ausiello’s future earning potential, can we all not agree that the decision by LOSTerminds Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse to head into the final season of the show 110% spoiler free was the best one the two showrunners have made since pitching ABC a concrete end date for the series three years ago? Seriously. Having not an iota of an idea as to what’s going to happen when the clock strikes 8PM on February 2nd has only multiplied our excitement ten-fold for what we’re confident will be an epic final season of this landmark series.
Morning Static: BROTHERS & SISTERS, THE JAY LENO SHOW, SUPERNATURAL & More!
• Quick, someone check if hell has frozen over! NBC and Conan O’Brien back in business.
• At long last, our national nightmare is over, THE JAY LENO SHOW will be off the air by February 9.
• Good News: SUPERNATURAL to get a spin-off! Bad News: Make that a web-only spin-off.
• Home alone no more, Macaulay Culkin in talks to join BIG LOVE.
• Another Walker walk out, with Ausiello breaking the news that Calista Flockhart will be working a reduced schedule next season.
Review: Stephen Colbert’s THE WØRD
Combining two of our favorite addictions, theTVaddict.com has begun periodically turning off the TV in order to review TV-related iPhone Apps.
Whether you’ve been too busy watching Letterman and Conan rip Jay Leno a new one, or simply getting too old to stay up past THE DAILY SHOW WITH JON STEWART, Comedy Central has now made the best part of THE COLBERT REPORT available at your fingertips with their handy little iPhone App THE WØRD.
What Works: In a word, everything. Thanks to the ability to search for ‘Wørds’ by air date, popularity, or alphabetically and stream them over both Wi-Fi and/or 3G networks at the touch of a finger, fans can now enjoy Stephen Colbert’s THE WØRD when they want where they want it. Which means that your lineup at the grocery store, coffee shop or DMV just got a helluva lot more bearable courtesy of a countless number of four-to-seven minute ‘Wørds’ (updated weekly) nestled squarely in the palm of your hand. Plus, unlike the FAMILY GUY App, the ‘Wørds’ stream commercial free (Although we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that unobtrusive banner ads do appear at the bottom of your screen while you search through clips.)

Advertising Anarchy: NURSE JACKIE
In our latest instalment of Advertising Anarchy (Also known as our take on how networks might wish to consider promoting some of our favorite new and returning shows), this TV Addict thought we’d offer up our two cents as to how Showtime might wish market the upcoming season of their critically acclaimed dark medical comedy NURSE JACKIE.
