About question 3: As someone who practically lived in these books when I was a pre-teen, although Elena is blonde and blue-eyed and starts off as a (sort-of) mean girl what’s great about the original is that she’s also fiercely loyal to her family and friends and translates into her love of Stefan and even Damon.

I just hate that lately Hollywood (and even in some novels) it seems like in order to make a female character “relatable” she has to be this blank slate or have brown hair or wear glasses (and mind you this is coming from a Black girl who is decidely not a Hollywood leading lady). The blonde, blue-eyed girl and even the mean girl can be relatable and Elena from the books was.
