Blogger Beat Down: In Defense of Ted Mosby

ted mosby

The subject of this week’s ‘Blogger Beat Down’ is… Entertainment Weekly writer Margeret Lyons who following last night’s episode of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER dubbed Ted Mosby, “the biggest douche in the universe.”

Our Take: With all due respect Mrs. Lyons, have ya met Ted? For if you had, you might have clued into the fact that over the course of five plus seasons, his quest for the titular mother has a tendency to get the better of him. Thus, what you call a douchey move that had different girl to the gang’s seemingly endless parade of special events, we call a hopelessly romantic one in search of love. A search, we should add that is becoming all the more challenging when you only have four friends, two of whom (cough*Marshall*cough* Lily) spent the better part of last night’s photo-flashback-laden episode acting like petulant children.

I already ranted on their article in defense of Ted. This helps me feel more justified that she was talking crazy, lol.

  • each week, my besties and i discuss how much better the show would be if a train (or if 24 had any heft in the HIMYM world, dirty bomb) would just get rid of ted and marshall, thus leaving us with the rest of the gang for us to enjoy.

    so, yeah: eff ted mosby.

I’ve always thought Ted was a douche and last night was no different. I have to agree with the EW writer. It’s a good thing the supporting cast is so great, or else the show wouldn’t be nearly as good as it is.

A bigger douche than Barney who suckers girls into being a one-night stand? Or (not to go to the Two and a Half Men attack again…b/c it is so easy) but he is worse than Charlie Sheen’s character?? I don’t know… At least Ted’s heart is in the right place.

It’s kind of sad how all of them have become caricatures of their former selves. Ted’s the romantic d-bag, Barney’s a man-whore, Lily’s a controlling shrew, Marshall is a goof, and Robin is trying to be funnier than she really is.

There has been zero character development for years now, aside from the brief detour that was caused by the trainwreck that was Robin and Barney, and it’s getting old.

I used to be a fan of the show, but it’s getting hard to watch. Add to the fact that a show that has developed its characters, Chuck, has to get beaten down by lazy shows like HIMYM and House. sigh.
