Emmy Predictions 2010: Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series

In anticipation of the upcoming 62nd Annual EMMY Awards (Airing August 29th at 8PM on NBC) theTVaddict.com is proud [or not-so-proud depending on how things turn out] to once again present our GUARANTEED EMMY WINNERS 2010*

NOMINEES: THE COLBERT REPORT, THE DAILY SHOW WITH JON STEWART, REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, TONIGHT SHOW WITH CONAN O’BRIEN.

SHOULD WIN: THE DAILY SHOW WITH JON STEWART
In this era of unbridled corporate greed and politicos run-amok that we currently find ourselves in, Jon Stewart — sans Colbert-style ratings stunts — continues to be one of television’s last bastions of common sense, and a damn funny one to boot. Plus, his talented group of cohorts (Including Samantha Bee, John Oliver, Jason Jones, Aasif Mandvi, Wyatt Cenac and Larry Wilmore among others) have finally gelled to the point that we’ve stopped wishing Rob Corddry’s career would tank so that he might return to the show that made him a household name.

WILL WIN: THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH CONAN O’BRIEN
Not only does everybody love a comeback, actors make up the largest block of Emmy voters. Translation: What better way to exact revenge on NBC, the network that eviscerated an awful lot of acting jobs by just last season proclaiming scripted dramas at 10PM over by awarding O’Brien’s short-lived stint as TONIGHT SHOW host with a statuette. Indeed, revenge is a dish best served in front of twenty million viewers.

SNUBBED: THE JAY LENO SHOW
Just Kidding. Seriously folks, we’ll be here all night. Don’t forget to tip your waitresses.

*theTVaddict.com does not guarantee his “winning picks.” Do not, I repeat, Do not bet the house, kids or family pet on them!

The Colbert Report stands head and shoulders above any other show of its type. Colbert literally is a “one-man” show and does not rely on a supporting cast as does Stewart. Colbert is able to hold an audience enthralled for a half hour and doesn't rely on “lame” jokes. He is like Bob Hope in his support of the troops and veterans, and has endeared himself to the Space Program and Olympic skaters with his support. No one has the following like Colbert's Nation. He earned an Emmy and then some, and to deny it to him is just stupid.

I'd have to give the award to Colbert too.

Somehow I get the feeling SNL might take it, thanks to the Betty White episode. Overall it's easily the weakest nominee of the group though. But no matter what, I really can't imagine Conan winning.

  • Even though Colbert and Stewart deserve it (I think one of them WILL win it), I wouldn't mind if Conan does win it.

Maybe I shouldn't announce it, but I'm more of a Conan person.

  • Yeah Conan's nomination itself was surprising, his winning would not be fathomable, and I say that even though I like Conan more than the others.

  • Betty White deserves a nod, but if SNL wins I will not be happy.

Conan should win. The revenge on NBC is merely the icing on the cake.
