What The FOX? Our Reaction to FOX’s 2010-2011 Midseason Schedule (Spoiler Alert: It’s Not Good!)

Despite FOX’s best attempt to lesson the impact of their 2010-2011 Midseason Schedule by releasing it as late on a Friday afternoon as humanely possible (or what THE WEST WING famously referred to as “Take out the Trash Day”), the Network forgot to take into account one, make that two, very important factors.

Firstly, the internet never sleeps, and secondly, we have absolutely no life! To the point where the only thing the Network actually managed to do (aside that is from effectively cancelling FRINGE, but more on that later) was interrupt our Family’s traditional Friday night dinner as we as he slightly awkward albeit painfully obvious question: What the FOX?

Which is to say, did FOX seriously think we weren’t going to notice the fact that they’ve decimated any hope of a fourth season for FRINGE by moving it to Fridays at 9PM starting January 28 (see: DOLLHOUSE), hurt such TV Addict favorites like COMMUNITY, THE BIG BANG THEORY and THE VAMPIRE DIARIES by bumping the aging albeit still powerful ratings juggernaut that is the AMERICAN IDOL results show to Thursdays at 8PM (starting January 20), not to mention effectively cancel RUNNING WILDE by neglecting to include it on the midseason sked? Because we did in fact notice, and what’s more, we’re not happy about it!

Luckily for FOX, we are, if anything, a professional (Hence, why we’ve refrained from going “all caps on their a**!”). Which is why, rather than end our rant with a stream of obscenities that we’ll undoubtedly live to regret, we’ll politely sum up our feelings by borrowing a line, well tweet, from THE VAMPIRE DIARIES co-executive producer @julieplec, “Dang, Fox. Wow.”

  • You gotta admit, Fox has some stones to jump into the fight with a pretty big stick. Sure, I feel a little bad for Community and Fringe, but you don’t win by showing mercy.

That’s fairly risky for Fox, considering that AI is already a question mark due to the new judges. No one knows how much of effect Simon’s absence will have on the ratings. Moving nights might hurt more than help although I can understand wanting to leave Glee on Tuesday.

  • Atwilson2

Well I’m not sure what FOX was expecting when they moved Fringe to Thursdays at 9 to begin with…

  • Thanks, FOX. You promise not to screw with Fringe and then you turn around and screw it as thoroughly as possible. At least we know what to believe next time around.

  • Deadline Hollywood has some interesting quotes on the subject from FOX Entertainment Prez Kevin Reilly:

I don’t see what the big deal is about a show moving anymore. If I like a show enough, I will follow it to whatever time frame it moves to….as I will with Fringe…..until it’s run into the ground. The viewing public is much more connected and educated now. Follow the show when it moves, record it/PVR it. I can tell you this much though, American Idol can rot. I haven’t watched that in a long time and won’t be resuming anytime soon.

  • i’m only worried about community. but maybe nbc knows they have a good thing going?

  • This is very intelligent programming from Fox, so they get props for that. I do wonder how The Vampire Diaries will perform though. I’m sure it will be down, but it has a big fan base so people will continue to watch. With a show like Hellcats though this could be the nail in the coffin. Let’s be honest it won’t be that big of a loss.

Here’s a thought: How about America stands up for itself, stops acting like mindless sheep, and forgets about Idol? Haven’t they manipulated you with that grating infomercial enough? What a piece of crap.

Try Vampire Diaries just once, and I guarantee you’ll say “Seacrest Out!” (is Ryan actually “telling” us something there?) forever.

no more good guys or running wilde…ouch. on the plus side, i can buy each of the complete series on dvd in a few months i guess.

  • hil

    Fringe? NOOOOOOOoooooooooo!

  • Ggny

I dont get why Fringe fans are mad. Moving it to Friday gives Fringe a chance to see another season there was no way if it stayed on Thursday that it was seeing another season…Now because its in a timeslot where you dont have to have good ratings i think it will see another season depending on what Fox has in development

  • Anonymous

Personally, it’s always been a matter of security for me as I never believed FOX would cancel Fringe while it was on Thursday nights. I figured they would first move it to another night… most likely Fridays. But as long as it stayed on Thursday, there was that cushion that protected it from cancellation. I didn’t expect them to make a switch until next season. So moving it to Fridays now, in my mind, is making it one step closer to cancellation. If it can’t pull decent numbers there, then it’s done. And as a Fringe fan, that worries me.

The fact that everything shuffles around like 10 times is the saddest. I’ve taken to watching Fringe on Hulu since CW shows are hard to get online until a couple of days later but why are they trying to kill the best show ever?!!!

Don’t worry BBT and VD. I can’t stand American Idol.

  • MRSBEZLER01

OH NO!!!!!! 🙁 DON’T DO IT FOX! DON’T KILL OFF FRINGE!!!!!!! IT IS THE BEST SHOW ON TV RIGHT NOW!!! I LOVE BONES AND HOUSE TOO, BUT I WILL DROP THEM LIKE A BAD HABBIT TO HURT FOXES RATINGS OVER THAT

  • Sweet Kinda

    i concur… X100000000!!!
