Neil Patrick Harris Calls Daytime Star Out!

Holy star wars! It looks like Doogie Howser has declared war on Victor Newman! Earlier today, Neil Patrick Harris (Barney, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER) took Eric Braeden (aka THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ tyranical tycoon, Victor) to task via twitter. “Eric Braeden is a D-Bag,” read Harris’ tweetstream of the daytimer who has guested on HIMYM in the past as the father of the character Robin. “The actor… agreed to do a cameo, then last night bailed, saying the part wasn’t ‘substantial’ enough.” Shortly after, Harris sent a follow-up tweet reading, “We’ve recast with Ray Wise, a fantastic actor who makes any part ‘substantial.’ Super excited to welcome him to the family!” Ironically, Braeden’s character on the Geano City-based soap is well known for regularly disowning members of the Newman clan who disappoint him.

    theyre both D-bags

    You know, I thin they’re both d-bags.

I used to really like NPH — and I still dig him on HIMYM, but he seems pompous to me.

His Twitter feed is the culprit — he is always talking about how great he is doing on vacation, blah, blah — and I think sometimes these big stars get big heads and forgot that their fan bases are having a rough time in a bad economy and dont need to hear about how much $ they have.

Not seeing how publicly calling someone out makes one any less of a D-bag than an actor bailing on a role. At least Eric B. didn’t have a public fit.

Eric Braeden is a douchebag. I’m happy NPH said it cause he’s always acted like an entitled a$$hole.

Am I the only one that doesn’t remember Robin’s father ever being on the show? They’re better off with Ray Wise taking the role.

I’m not sure why people are criticizing NPH. I don’t see anything wrong with what he tweeted.

Not sure why NPH cares enough to tweet about it. He’s not the casting director nor the show producer, right? And it isn’t like the role couldn’t be played by any b-level actor on up, right? An actor bailing on a part of this type isn’t something news worthy. We are talking about a daytime actor and How I Met Your Mother folks. If that’s all it takes to be a d-bag then where does publicly tweeting about someone else’s job choices fall in that scale?

  • Nick

Hey, I can totally “get” why NPH would be ticked. Braeden basically insulted HIMYM, a buzzy show that ANY daytime actor should be happy to be a part of, no matter how “substantial.” Maybe if the actor himself brought more to the table, he’d get a bigger primetime role.

I think I speak for EVERYONE when I say that Ray Wise is a 100% upgrade anyway. He’s one of TV’s best and most underused amazing talents…and a real pro’s pro.

While my first reaction was to applaud NPH for his refreshingly honest and candid tweet, upon further reflection I’ve decided that it probably wasn’t the classiest of ideas for NPH to broadcast that to his million plus twitter followers, regardless of how unprofessional Eric Braeden may have acted.
