JERSEY SHORE! BIG BROTHER! ALL MY CHILDREN! The TV Addict Week in Rewind
Best Feud: One almost feels bad for Fox News as one man — Jon Stewart’s THE DAILY SHOW — repeatedly makes mince meat of their entire network. Almost.
The “Don’t Let The Door Hit Ya Where The Good Lord Split Ya” Award Goes To… : Vinny, The Situation and any other JERSEY SHORE cast member who walks away — or threatens to — from the show. Dudes, if you think there aren’t about 5.3 million folks with equally low IQ’s willing to act like complete asshats in order to make millions of dollars, you know nothing about the tragic state of today’s society.
Campaign With The Most Bite: Discovery Channel brilliantly released ads using Lady Gaga’s “Show Me Your Teeth” to promote Shark Week.
Person You Never Want On A Jury Judging You: CNN’s Nancy Grace proved that she is a believer not in justice and points of law but mob rule by calling Casey Anthony’s jury “kooky” and other derogatory terms. Better still, she proved herself a hypocrite by then taking John King to task for showing clips in which she was criticized by an actual juror. Note to Ms. Grace: If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen. [Read more…]
The Secret Horror of TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY
There is perhaps no more polarizing, yet inspiring series on television than TORCHWOOD. It provokes heated debate about the value of human life and our efforts to preserve it at all costs. But it also reminds us that there is an amazing world within the universe, which it has created, and it invites us to play there for a while. So while TORCHWOOD will galvanize fans with its shocking deaths, it also makes one weep with joy for having been granted the privilege of knowing those wondrous characters.
As TORCHWOOD returns for its fourth season, it promises to provide yet another shock-and-awe story. Having closed the book on the story of season three with the ultimate sacrifice, season four introduces a brand new story of adventure. With the show transplanting from the U.K. to the U.S. in search of greener pastures (not to mention the funding necessary for such an expensive sci-fi show), TORCHWOOD embraces the American culture and weaves in a distinctly American style to telling its finely-honed tapestry. Exclusive Interview: We Get the Scoop on TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY From Star Arlene Tur
In the upcoming Starz series TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY, Arlene Tur plays Dr. Vera Juarez, a cardio thoracic surgeon swept up by the miraculous events of what happens when literally every person on Earth stops dying. No matter how dire their injuries, it is impossible for death to claim a single life. It is a medical mystery and a worldwide conundrum.
As seen through the eyes of a doctor confounded by this “miracle” and yet acutely aware that our tiny planet cannot possibly sustain more life due to the rapidly decreasing resources, Arlene’s role is pivotal. She is the voice reminding everyone that this “miracle” has a nasty side-effect: worldwide starvation within months due to this suspension of death. This miracle may not be the miracle that everyone thinks it is.
Dr. Juarez is also the treating physician for CIA agent Rex Matheson (portrayed by Mekhi Phifer) and because of her unique dual position as the voice of the medical community and having the inside ear of the CIA, Dr. Juarez becomes further embroiled in the global events quickly spiralling out of control.
Taking a few minutes out of her own globally busy schedule, Arlene shared what it was like working on TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY and offered a few clues about what to expect. [Read more…]
Ask the Addict: Spoilers for DEGRASSI, ROOKIE BLUE, PARENTHOOD & More!
Dear TV Addict, I know you’re on vacation, but as someone who has really been enjoying your increasingly informative ‘Ask the Addict’ columns as of late I was wondering if there was any chance you could post an abbreviated one this week? — Jeff
The TV Addict: Ask and ye shall receive! Thanks in no small part to our somewhat insatiable addiction to TV, coupled with the unexpected access to high speed internet available at the current undisclosed location we find ourselves staying in, we’re only too happy to oblige with a vacation shortened edition of ‘Ask the Addict’ in 3… 2… 1…
With the new season of DEGRASSI now less than two weeks away, I’m hoping you can provide some intel on what to expect. Have I mentioned I cannot wait for July 18th? — Hillary
The TV Addict: Think you’re excited for DEGRASSI’s July 18th premiere (9PM on TeenNick and MuchMusic in Canada), well, join the club. In fact, we’re so enthusiastic for the eleventh season of Canada’s most popular export that we decided to cajole our source on the set to share some scoop… and share he (or “she” did!). Not only will the one-hour season premiere feature a VERY (Editor’s Note: Our source actually took it upon themselves to type “very” in all caps) unexpected death, the aftermath will be felt throughout the season. What’s more, continuing the show’s penchant to go where no teen-oriented show has gone before, our source promises that Adam (Jordan Todosey) is going to explore the physical sides of being an FTM transgender teen. Constance Marie Shares Her Love for ABC Family’s Summer Hit SWITCHED AT BIRTH
Feeling like she has won the lottery and handed her dream job on a gold platter, Constance Marie is not only SWITCHED AT BIRTH’s biggest cheerleader, she is also genuinely happy to be a part of such an extraordinary ensemble. She portrays Regina Vasquez, mother of one of the switched-at-birth daughters, Daphne. (Delightfully portrayed by Katie Leclerc, whose interview can be read HERE.) Not only does Regina have her own disability being a recovered alcoholic, but also her daughter Daphne is deaf. Despite these challenges, Regina and Daphne have one of the most balanced, mutually respectful mother-daughter relationships on television.
Commenting on how well-received the show has been with viewers and fans, Constance gushed, “I always knew it was a beautiful show. A recovered alcoholic who learned sign language to communicate with her daughter – beautiful!” Sharing a bit of her own personal perspective, she also revealed, “My own daughter was an IVF (in-vitro fertilization) baby, so I had the thought of: ‘What if I had the wrong baby?’” The thought is enough to make any parent tear-up at the thought of it. It is every parent’s worst nightmare. In addition, Constance could relate to the issues concerning her character’s daughter Daphne, who became deaf as a toddler. She explained, “When they were testing my baby’s hearing, one of her ears had no signal. Fortunately, the next day they were able to get the signal. But I had that thought of ‘What if my baby couldn’t hear in one ear?’ So, when I read the script, I understood Regina and how she would think. It’s that whole nature vs. nurture, and how would you react?” [Read more…]
