You Be the Critic: RINGER

After months of hype fueled in part by an uncharacteristically aggressive marketing campaign on behalf of The CW Network, Sarah Michelle Gellar’s much-anticipated return to your living room became a reality courtesy of the series premiere of RINGER. But did the decidedly grown up series live up to your lofty expectations? Is double the Gellar thanks to a dual role that sees her playing twin sisters Bridget and Siobhan really double the fun? And most importantly when it comes to any new series, did this dark and twisty tale offer up enough of a tantalizing tease to ensure you’ll be tuning in for more? Now would be the time to let us know in both the poll and the comments below.

That pilot was a serious stinker. No wonder CW got CBS’ sloppy seconds.

you can’t judge a show by it’s pilot. How many great shows started off crappy? A network isn’t going to pour all it’s money into a show without knowing how it’s going to do.

  • I enjoyed it. The noir feel, the suspense, the plot twists. It wasn’t
great (very good, but not great), but I think it has the potential to BE
great. I’m surprised at how negative the reaction has been because I
don’t see how it was so awful. I think this is a case of expectations being way, way, way too high and people not wanting to see SMG as anything but Buffy Summers.

  • You can judge a show by it’s pilot just because a show can get better doesn’t mean it necessarily will. A bad pilot is a bad pilot. You can only hope a show becomes better.

  • Plus I think the fact that it was the first new pilot aired on TV for the fall season (at least it was as far as I know) made people want to criticize it even more so.  Even if the other new shows this season are absolutely terrible, I’d almost bet people will be more lenient on them.

Wow.  Anyone who watched that superb pilot and has anything negative to say….just needs to stop watching TV altogether.  You’re jaded.

The first hour of Ringer met all of my expectations…and THEN some!  I didn’t want it to end!  The (spoiler) twist was completely unexpected, and I wanna see how she squirms around that one!

    Can’t wait til next Tuesday!!!!!!

Exactly what I was thinking.  The pilot didn’t grab me, but I usually give a show 3 episodes before I give up (unless it is absolutely terrible).  It’s got a great cast, so I’ll be giving it another few weeks.

I agree; I didn’t get into Community right away because it wasn’t that great at the beginning.  So glad I stuck it out.  I always give shows with an interesting premise and stars a few episodes.

  • The pilot was okay. I felt like there was just too many things happening but the show definitely has a strong cast. I just felt like there was just too many questions thrown out there to the audience for them to firmly grasp what the show is about.

Side note: Is it just me or are Doppelgangers making a comeback? Just thought I should put it out there.

  • Thats what a pilot is … you judge the whole show on its pilot. If the pilot sucks then chances are the show wont make it. There are exceptions to the rule.

SMG is a poor actress and giving her two roles is suicide for a show.

The show itself was poor. Mostly because of the special effects. I thought I was watching something from the 40’s when they did the boat scene. But then I remembered I was watching a show on the CW that probably just had enough money to pay SMG and nothing left over for anything else.
