Taking a break from the hunt for elusive serial killer Red John, the cast and creators of crime drama sensation THE MENTALIST gathered at Los Angeles’ historic lounge, The Edison, to celebrate its 100th episode, which airs on October 28, 2012. They shared what fans can expect from this milestone episode and reflected on some of their favorite moments from the past five seasons.
The 100th episode, titled “Red Dawn,” journeys back in time to when Jane first joined up with Lipton and the California Bureau of Investigation. Executive Producer Chris Long explained that this episode was made with the fans in mind. Viewers will learn how the loss of his wife and daughter triggered Jane’s obsession with capturing Red John, and fun facts like how Jane acquired his leather couch.
In keeping with the theme of looking back, Tunney and Baker explained that they have a special place in their hearts for the pilot episode, which Baker described as “the best.” All the cast, though, acknowledged that they never could have come as far as they have without the support of the fans. Owain Yeoman, who portrays CBI agent Wayne Rigsby, is in awe of the success of the show: “It’s crazy to think that 99 episodes later, here we are.”
