The Big Tease: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES Season 5
BIG BROTHER! SCANDAL! GENERAL HOSPITAL! THE NEWSROOM! The TV Addict Week in Rewind
Worst Excuse: After Aaryn Gries was booted from BIG BROTHER, she was questioned by the Chenbot about her racist and homophobic comments. Her response was to basically use the Paula Deen offense: “In Texas, we say things that are sometimes… we joke and we don’t mean it. I feel bad that this is how it came across and how I’m being seen.” In other words: This is so ingrained into my personality that I don’t even know I’m doing it. And that, kids, is racism in its purist form.
Best Unraveling: The NEWSROOM episode in which the show-within-a-show’s Genoa story fell apart made for gripping television… topped by Jane Fonda’s showstoppingly hilarious appearance.
Most Shameless What-Your-Grandma-Woulda-Called-A-Hussy: TEEN MOM Farrah Abraham — aka the most famous-for-no-reason person whose last name isn’t Kardashian — has created an Amazon Wish List where fans can go and buy her expensive stuff. How much does dignity go for these days?
Biggest Waste: THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS took sexy badboy Carmine — a character with all kinds of potential — and turned him into a dime-a-dozen psycho.
The Didn’t-See-That-Coming Award Goes To… : SCANDAL, which revealed that FRIENDS alum Lisa Kudrow will recur on the show this season. [Read more…]

CONTINUUM: A Powerful Second Season Concludes Its Eventful Journey
Falling in love with TV shows is a wonderful feeling. There’s the rush of tingling excitement over each new episode. Earlier this year, Syfy debuted the first season of the Canadian sci-fi series CONTINUUM and I fell head over heels. I loved the idea of a time-traveling series with the heroine stuck in our present day trying to get back to her future and having to keep her identity a secret. There was a sense that everything could be snatched away from her for a second time as she struggled to maintain some kind of life as a police officer and making tentative friends and allies. So as we followed Detective Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols), we grew more immersed in her intriguing world straddling the police department dilemmas with her partner Det. Carlos Fonnegra (Victor Webster) and her attempts to find a way home with the aid of a young teen super-genius, Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen). [Read more…]

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: This Summer’s Small Screen Surprises!
Summertime is an unusual time of year for television. Major networks have shunned it for decades using it to rerun their top TV shows or to burn-off less successful TV shows. But as more and more cable networks began to prove that summer runs and launches of TV shows could carve out a nice chuck of the advertising revenue, the competition during summer months began to heat up. CBS had a big summer with the Stephen King series “Under The Dome” (well, that is until the infamous CBS/Time Warner fee dispute blew up). NBC dabbled with new summer shows with “Crossing Lines” and “Camp.” ABC already cracked into the summer season a few years back with “Rookie Blue” and debuted its latest Canadian series “Motive” this summer as well. Yet while the big 5 networks were still hesitant to jump in full-throttle with new original scripted programming, the cable networks continued to roll out new shows this summer.
With summer wrapping up with the close of August in just a few days, this is a good time to reflect back and celebrate a few notable new TV series that caught our attention and held it this summer: [Read more…]
