THE 100 Preview: “Contents Under Pressure” (Raven, Groctavia and Repercussions Oh My!)
In this week’s new episode of the CW series THE 100, it is all about dealing with the repercussions of the hard choices made by the kids on Earth and the adults on the Ark; as both groups have risked or taken lives and the fall-out from that sends ripple-effects throughout both worlds.
When we last saw the kids on Earth, Bellamy (Bob Morley), Clarke (Eliza Taylor), Jasper (Devon Bostick) and Finn (Thomas McDonell) had gone to rescue Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos), who was being held chained up by a Grounder. But in the process, Finn took a knife to the chest and his odds of making it are slim at best without the resources on the Ark.
Then on the Ark, Chancellors Jaha (Isaiah Washington), Kane (Henry Ian Cusick) and Abby (Paige Turco) are still recovering from the deaths of the 320 who volunteered in order to extend the oxygen supply — for the rocket flares sent up from Earth were seen too late.
Neither place is the most desirable locale to be in right now. One offers poisonous fog and an hostile indigenous population; the other offers a slow death by oxygen depravation and the worry than any small infraction could result in being floated.
So what does this week’s episode “Contents Under Pressure” have to offer? First, there’s Raven (Lindsey Morgan). Now safely on Earth and reunited with her love, Finn, Raven will do everything in her power to save his life. So repairing that blast radio that Bellamy tried to destroy is top of her list. REVOLUTION Preview: “$#!& Happens” in the Aftermath of [Spoiler Alert’s] Death!
In a year of fake-out deaths: first Aaron (Zak Orth), then Monroe (David Lyons), it is hard to still believe that our heroes can actually die on REVOLUTION. But evidenced by the deaths of Ben (Tim Guinee), Maggie (Anna Lise Phillips), Danny (Graham Rogers), and Nora (Daniella Alonso) in the first season, people do die.
So in “Austin City Limits,” when Charlie (Tracy Spiridakos) was forced to kill Jason (JD Pardo), we felt like our heart had been ripped out. Jason was one of the heroes. He was supposed to be untouchable. He had survived and overcome so much that it seemed doubly cruel that it was his turn to be sacrificed.
Last season may have been about dismantling Monroe’s Republic and turning the power back on; but this season has been all about the Patriots and their devastating plans to conquer the entire country. Their plans have been in place for nearly two decades. The Patriots have been plotting, scheming and strategizing ever since the day the power went out. Getting the power back on (albeit briefly) was just a means to an end for them. They needed the resources to devastate Monroe’s army and anyone else’s that stood in their way in one swoop. Then they sent in their brain-washed soldiers to clean up the remaining areas of resistance.
After seeing how effectively their brain-washing technique worked on Jason and the other cadets, it is terrifying to imagine how many more of such mindless soldiers are out there under the Patriots control and ready to do their bidding. They are the sleeper agents from hell; virtually unstoppable because you cannot see them coming. [Read more…]
ARROW Preview: A War Is Brewing in “City of Blood”
It was inevitable that someone close to Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) would eventually die. All heroes paint a bulls-eye on their loved ones the second they take on the responsibility of being a champion. In Oliver’s case, his fate was predetermined by the events on that blasted island. Meeting Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett) was both the making of Oliver and perhaps the undoing of Oliver – and all because of a girl. Shado (Celina Jade) was blessed to have been loved by two very good men; but her death caused shockwaves that are still being felt today. Oliver may never fully escape his decision to choose Sara over Shado when Ivo (Dylan Neal) held a gun to their heads and told Oliver to choose. Slade is certainly never going to forgive Oliver, and under the influence of the Mirakuru serum, Slade’s mind is warped beyond the limits of humanity. Slade is now just a monster seething with rage and vengeance. Unfortunately, it is not totally unlike how Oliver was when he first return to Starling City – that all consuming desire for revenge at any price.
But the price of Slade’s unrelenting pursuit to destroy Oliver took a deadly toll in last week’s episode “Seeing Red.” It claimed the life of Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson). When placed in the same position of being forced to choose between two people he cared about Oliver, simply could not choose this time. He was bereft with anger, agony and helplessness. That left it up to Moira – being a mother who never ever hesitated to do whatever it took to protect her children, she willingly stepped forward and declared herself to be the one willing to die so that her children may be spared. As Slade swung his sword and sliced right through Moira, we watched in utter horror. Slade may have declared it an honorable death, but there was nothing honorable in watching a woman being cut in half before her children’s eyes just because a madman wanted to play a game.
