Paola Andino Previews Tonight’s EVERY WITCH WAY Season Finale
Paola Andino stars as Emma Alonso on EVERY WITCH WAY, which wraps it’s second season tonight on Nickelodeon. I caught up with the young actress about her favorite moments from this season, who she thinks Emma will pick, Jax or Daniel, and what shows she’s loving right now.
What can you tell us about the season finale?
Paola Andino: Tonight’s season finale is going end in a completely unexpected way. The fans have been voting on nick.com/witch and on Twitter as to whether Emma should end up with Jax or Daniel. I’m excited to see who they’ve been voting for the most. As for the rest of the 1-hour special, there will be many different action-packed situations going on at once. Fans can expect to be on the edge of their seat the whole time.
What has been your favorite memory from EWW this season?
It’s difficult to pick just one favorite memory from EWW this season because I enjoyed filming so much. One favorite would have to be a variety of scenes that were filmed with the majority of the cast. It becomes a bit harder to shoot with so many people on set but we share so many laughs in between takes.
Who do you think Emma should choose, Jax (Rahart Adams) or Daniel (Nick Merico)?
I have reasons as to why Emma should pick both…for now I’m leaning more towards one boy over the other but I don’t want the fans to be influenced by my opinion. If she ends up with Daniel, it’s because of their history and his tremendous efforts to understand her crazy lifestyle as a witch. If Emma ends up with Jax, it’s due to how much he’s always been by her side, supporting and understanding the aspects of their personalities they have in common.
What will Mia (Elizabeth Elias) decide to do? Do you think she could really do something to hurt Emma?
It could go either way with what Mia decides to do. In a sneak peek of tonight’s finale from nick.com/witch and the nick app, the fans can see that it appears that Mia is going to let Emma be attacked by zombies. When Daniel suffered from the Spider Seal, Mia took it off of him. We’ll have to find out if she’s as compassionate in this situation because Mia’s been working the whole season to get revenge on witches.
What shows are you loving on TV right now? Any shows you would love to guest on if you got the chance?
I have loved THE WALKING DEAD since day one so guest starring in an episode or two would be crazy for me. If I got the chance, I would also love to be on the CW’s, JANE THE VIRGIN. It’s funny because I haven’t had the time to actually watch the show yet. From what I’ve heard of it, I would really love the series though. Working with a fellow Puerto Rican and Golden Globe winner, Gina Rodriguez would be amazing. I really look forward to binge-watching the first season.
You can watch Paola in the season finale of EVERY WITCH WAY tonight on Nickeodeon.

AMERICAN IDOL Recap: We Rank the Best and Worst Auditions Pre-Hollywood Week
Here it is, our long journey through auditions is finally at its end. Now the real fun can get underway as we’ll get to see crying, backstabbing and betrayal in Hollywood Week.
Sadly, that’s still a week away, but there was still some fun stuff to wrap up this final night of tryouts.
THE THREE BEST AUDITIONS
Adanna
This is the girl who led off the show to a smiling group of judges who the producers introduced to us with their twitter handles. Somehow, I think this is the decline of Western Civilization, or maybe I’m just the world’s oldest thirty-year-old. It’s a toss-up.
Adanna sang “You and I”, the underrated tune from Ms. Lady Gaga. And she really sang it. She didn’t make her audition a showcase for crazy belting or runs. Instead, she turned the song into a bit of an emotional crescendo as she told a story with both her emotions tied into the lyrics, but also how she built her vocals as the song progressed.
I don’t often say this about singers under the age of eighteen, but Adanna really really knows what she’s doing.
Rocky Peter
This is the guy from Africa who says that all things are now possible because he is an American Citizen.
I say all things are possible when you’re loaded with enough talent that he could go out and lend some to half the stadium waiting to audition and still have more than enough left over to get through to Hollywood Week and probably into the top ten.
He gets to keep it all though, and it’s going to be a lot of trouble for the rest of the contestants. He sang an original song that’s just stunning in its beauty. Not just his voice, but in the originality of every aspect of the song and how well-crafted his performance was. This guy is a true artist and I can’t wait to see him progress on the show.
Tyanna
This is the girl who looked like Janelle Monae’s little sister, right down to the bow tie and crazy hair. She’s not quite Monae in terms of talent, but yet might be an operative word with which to end that sentence as she did show flashes of somebody who could become that level of an artist somewhere down the road.
As with most youngsters, she’s just not quite all the way there yet. She showed some real pitch problems in her performance, but they weren’t totally glaring. She made up for that by saying she’s working on her pitch and is aware of her faults, but the faults are still there.
Just one more kid that I wish would wait until she was ready for the show, but I think she’s pretty good as is.
THE THREE WORST AUDITIONS
Christopher
This was the guy who did his stadium audition in front of…who was that? Yes it was! Carly Smithson of ‘American Idol’ Season 7. Good to see her back in the ‘Idol’ realm if only for a brief clip.
Christopher is basically an idiot. He played an acoustic guitar like it was a flying V. Not just in the way that he basically abused the guitar to the point that it seemed like he had a personal vendetta against the pickguard, but also that he held it like he was doing an action shot for the Jackson Guitars catalog. That’s not really how you’re meant to play an acoustic, Christopher.
Guitar playing wasn’t his worst offense though. His singing didn’t really fit any genre. An insane grunt to no melody in particular that immediately sounded like something you wanted him to stop for both his and everybody else’s sakes. Christopher claimed he was too hard rock, but I tend to agree with Jennifer when she said, simply, “You just have no damn chance.”
Daniel
This was the kid who claimed he was fifteen, but I’m pretty sure was actually a small child from a Norman Rockwell painting come to life in the worst Disney movie script pitch ever. He claimed to be a multi-instrumentalist and singer, but only one of those is true: he actually has some decent chops on both the piano and the guitar.
His issue is that he appears to be going through puberty. I mean, the kid says he’s fifteen, but he definitely has the physical maturity of a thirteen-year-old and it totally manifested in the fact that his voice kept breaking like the teenager on ‘The Simpsons’ every time he tried to reach for a note.
Daniel is the classic example of why a kid like him should not come on ‘American Idol’ when he’s fifteen. Wait a couple years! The kid obviously has talent, but, in his case in particular, he’s just not ready yet to be in a singing competition. For crissakes, he hasn’t finished getting over his voice cracking yet! Wait at least until that happens.
Of course in super-soft judge world he moves on, but they should have done him a favor and told him to come back in a couple years.
Harry
This is the guy who’s sold nearly 30 million albums worldwide and judges the quality of singers on a nationally televised program. He attempted to sing “Chandelier” by Sia in a caterwauling mess that found him on his knees like Tim Tebow and screeching loud enough to make the next contestant wonder what all the noise was on her way in.
It was definitely the funniest moment from Harry so far this season, and there have been plenty. I’m sure we’ll cover more of those once the show goes live.
But for now, on to Hollywood Week!

AMERICAN IDOL Season 14 Recap: We Rank the Best and Worst San Francisco Auditions
As we roll into the final week of ‘Idol’ Auditions, we’re still in the search for that ever-elusive memorable audition.
One way or the other, we’re still looking for it. Maybe it’s William Hung or the Pants on the Ground Guy giving us outrageous comedy of pure awfulness that this show built its first month on for so many seasons. Or maybe it’s a blow-away audition like what’s-her-name and whozeits?
That’s my point – nobody remembers the good auditions. We remember the good contestants from down the road, but I can’t think of any winners or even finalists whose auditions I recall as being memorable or even particularly good. Still, you’d think somebody could deliver on that idea.
So did we get anything memorable last night? Not quite, but there’s still a lot to discuss. [Read more…]

THE MENTALIST Recap: Our Top 5 Favorite Moments From “Copper Bullet”
The whole thing with Abbott’s old boss, Peterson, comes to a head. Here are your Mentalist Top Five Moments!
Unearthing the Skeleton!
Peterson apparently didn’t take Jane’s threat as seriously as Jane thought, because he has the guy Abbott shot in Rio Bravo dug up and the bullet in his head extracted. Jane is on top of it, though, as he told Wylie to monitor Peterson’s whereabouts. Peterson’s been in contact with a San Antonio congressman named Jules Blatt, and Mrs. Abbott’s confirmation is in four days. The clock is ticking! Time to save some Abbott butt!
Saving Abbott!
After Jane lets Abbott in on the bad news, he instantly knows what Peterson did and that next comes the subpoena of the gun. As Lisbon totally freaks out, Jane lies down on his favorite couch for a think. If Jane’s not worried, neither am I.
Meanwhile, Abbott finally tells Lena what happened, and she’s supportive of her man. She wants to withdraw, and Abbott offers to resign. Jane interrupts to say he knows they’re both willing to commit career suicide for the other but warns against it, since Peterson’s a ruthless bastard who won’t stop until he’s destroyed both of them. But Jane has a plan, of course. Hey, that couch has magical powers.
Abbott doesn’t want Jane in on it, but Lena does. She spills that Abbott said Jane has one of the most devious and trickiest minds he’s ever worked with. But! He also says Jane is his friend, and he would trust Jane with his life. I’m all verklempt. Jane won’t tell them his plan, so they have deniability. They’re on board. So is Cho. Vega is purposely left in the dark.
The Plan!
Wylie discovers Peterson is a wine snob with a lavish lifestyle, so Jane’s theory Peterson has stolen money seems dead on. Jane will handle the bullet problem, while Lisbon, Cho, and Wylie dig into Peterson’s life.
Jane goes to his old circus buddy, Pete, for some help. Pete also recommends Jane take off the damn ring. Pete, you’re my hero.
Meanwhile, Peterson could not be more douchey as he hits tennis balls at a private club while talking on the cell phone. Jane tells him he knows about Peterson’s trip, and Peterson’s all “JUSTICE” until he comes clean this Jules person wants to block Lena from the position, and if Peterson gives him the ammunition to do it, that will turn out good for him.
Of course, Jane steals his Peterson’s phone. Through it, they’re able to figure out Peterson is skimming through low-level drug busts, since he’s the one who’s supposed to report how much money they found. He also has a Fort Knox security system.
Vega at last corners Cho. She knows something’s been going on and wants in on it, so Cho needs to stop protecting her. She’s down with breaking at least seven laws and possibly ending her career, so he assigns her the Peterson detail.
It all of a sudden occurs to Abbott his agents might be breaking a few laws and tries to call off Jane’s plan, but as Jane points out, he’ll go to jail, Lena will lose her job, and Peterson winds up as head of the DEA. Uh, NO THANK YOU, Abbott thinks but doesn’t say. However, he also looks verklempt because they’re all willing to go down for him.
Vega overhears Peterson’s meeting with Missy from Blatt’s office, where he promises to bring the evidence the next day.
I guess Peterson wasn’t too worried about his lost cell phone, as Wylie is able to tap into his security system and put up a static picture. Alrighty, then! Of course, Jane just sits on the couch and figures it out. They find the safe but need Peterson’s thumb print. Since this isn’t an action movie, I assume they won’t be killing Peterson and cutting off his thumb.
As an alternative, Wylie goes to Abbott to get clearance to retrieve a couple of million dollars from evidence. Abbott=not at all surprised Jane lied about not needing his help. Meanwhile, Wylie has the money and is on his way to Peterson’s house. Vega stalls Peterson by ramming into the back of his car, but the gig is up when Peterson recognizes her.
Peterson Goes Down!
Abbott shows up at Lena’s confirmation hearing to wipe the smug smile off Peterson’s face. He shows Peterson a nice picture of a bag full of money with Peterson’s kitty sitting on top of it. Peterson checks Abbott for a wire but forgets to check the room for Vega who recorded Peterson offering half of the money to Abbott.
As for the bullet evidence, well, if you didn’t figure out Missy was a plant, you’ve never watched this show. In flashback, we see Fake Missy go into Blatt’s office and say she lost her cell phone in order to make the original call come from Blatt’s office. Then Pete and his gang pose as exterminators, so Peterson could have his meeting with Fake Missy. Peterson gets placed under arrest by Abbott. YAY! I love when the good guys win.
Trouble in Paradise!
Lisbon and Jane discuss Jane’s obsession with keeping Lisbon safe. His awareness of her being an FBI agent seems to be the bone of contention. In the end, Jane admits to his fear of losing her but agrees to live in the moment.
All’s well that ends well. Abbott tells Cho he’s moving to D.C. in a couple of months, and he’s selected Cho to lead up the unit. Even CHO looks verklempt. He smiles! Laughs, even! And Wylie and Vega are becoming a thing.
What do you guys think? As we countdown to the final episodes, it seems they just want to make the fans happy. Good job!
