SUPERGIRL stars Melissa Benoist, Mechad Brooks, Jeremy Jordan, Chyler Leigh, and David Harewood — along with executive producer Sara Schecter — took to the stage at San Diego Comic-Con to tease what’s coming up in season 2. Newcomer to the show Tyler Hoechlin — who has been cast as Superman — also made a surprise appearance.
The big news for season 2, of course, revolves around the introduction of Superman, so it was one of the first things that Schecter talked about during the panel. She explained that in season 1 the show was about establishing Kara and about Supergirl and they thought it would confuse matters to have Superman there. But now that the fans know who Kara is, they feel it’s the right time to introduce Clark Kent/Superman. After all, the show is about the family you make and the family you’re born to.
Other highlights:
- Where is Alex headed this year? Leigh said that what’s really cool about season 2 is the show has already established so much about who Alex is in the DEO and her relationships with J’onn and Kara in season 1. So this upcoming season is an opportunity to learn more about her outside of those elements — particularly who she is and what she wants.
- Chris Wood’s character is the one “in the pod” according to Schecter.
- Kara and James ended season 1 in a lip-lock, but will a relationship blossom between them? Brooks said there will be ups and downs because it’s a “workplace relationship” and both of them are still trying to find out who they are.
- Brooks also hinted that there would be some bro-time between James and Clark/Superman.
- Jordan says that this season we’ll see Winn reach his full potential and he will be using his IT skills in a more productive manner.
- Clark has a different experience of what it means to have superpowers on Earth than Kara does, Schecter said. There will be head-butting and philosophical approaches that will be different between the pair.
- Snapper Carr (played by Ian Gomez) won’t be falling for Kara or Supergirl’s tricks, so it sounds like he won’t be a fan of either woman.
- The President (played by Lynda Carter) is getting involved in the show because “big things are happening” as Supergirl and Superman come together.
SUPERGIRL will premiere on Monday, October 10 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
