ANIMAL KINGDOM, WRECKED and ANGIE TRIBECA Renewed by TNT and TBS
Two Turner properties, TNT and TBS, have renewed three shows between them: ANIMAL KINGDOM, WRECKED and ANGIE TRIBECA.
WRECKED ranks among cable’s Top 25 scripted series for the year-to-date and is the #1 new cable comedy among adults 18-49. ANGIE TRIBECA’s second season premiere delivered cable’s largest increase of adults 18-49 (+41%) for a returning comedy this year. Finally, ANIMAL KINGDOM is pulling in a young audience profile and has been on an upward trajectory since its premiere.
“A year ago we began reinventing TBS, and thanks to the incredible talent behind these shows, we’ve come a long way in a very short amount of time,” said Brett Weitz, executive vice president of original programming for TBS. “Pulling the trigger on renewals early allows us to build on our success by giving fans new seasons more quickly.”
“ANIMAL KINGDOM has signaled the new tone for TNT dramas and is moving the network in the direction we hoped it would,” said Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT. “I’m confident that our strategy of working with high-caliber talent and then getting out of their way will continue to pay off.”
WRECKED currently airs on airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on TBS, ANGIE TRIBECA airs on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on TBS and ANIMAL KINGDOM airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The new seasons of each show will consist of ten episodes and will premiere in 2017.

THE NIGHT OF Preview: A Hard Look at the Judicial System
THE NIGHT OF is a crime story. The new HBO eight part limited series delves into the intricacies of a complex New York City murder case with cultural and political overtones. The story examines the police investigation, the legal proceedings, the criminal justice system and Rikers Island, where the accused await trial.
John Turturro stars as an embattled defence attorney, while Riz Ahmed is his young Pakistani-American client who is accused of brutally murdered a young woman on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.
Creator Steven Zaillian says “It’s a crime story, a police story, a legal story, a corrections story. You make a story about all that, tell it honestly, and it will naturally be a social story. But none of that is going to be interesting if you don’t tell it with characters who are interesting. Every character in this has their own life and story and concerns and reasons for why they do what they do. No one is written to get you to empathize with them, or to represent something, or to be a hero or a villain. They are simply meant to be real. In my experience, no one ever really says what they mean, so my characters don’t either. What they do is react to and interact with the situations facing them in a natural, unsentimental way, and in doing that, reveal themselves, and hopefully some kind of understanding comes of it.”
THE NIGHT OF premieres on Sunday, July 10 at 9/8c on HBO and HBO Canada.
CODE BLACK: Rob Lowe Joins the Cast for Season 2
Rob Lowe is going from the courtroom to the Emergency Room. The former star of THE GRINDER is moving to CODE BLACK for its second season as a series regular.
Lowe will be playing Colonel Ethan Willis, CBS announced today. His aggressive, rule-breaking style is greeted enthusiastically by Dr. Leanne Rorish (Marcia Gay Harden), but not by all the other doctors”.
CODE BLACK returns for its second season on Wednesday, September 28 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

DEAD OF SUMMER Sneak Peek: The Camp Opens
Camp Stillwater is once again open for business on this week’s episode of DEAD OF SUMMER. But something seems to be very wrong with one of the campers.
After the campers arrive on opening day, Alex and Blotter realize one of their new charges, Anton, is going to be a handful. It turns out that Anton has a tendency to wander off into the woods while talking to himself. At first, Alex and Blotter just think that Anton has an imaginary friend, but when Anton starts talking about “the Tall Man” and giving them cryptic messages, they start to wonder if there’s something lurking in the woods. We’re also going to see flashbacks to Alex’s past, which will reveal where he got his “if you want something in life, you have to take it” attitude.
Meanwhile, the deputy watches a TV show about Satanists and starts to wonder if they might be responsible for what’s happening at the camp. And Joel finds the box that Deb unearthed, but she interrupts him before he gets a chance to see what’s inside.
DEAD OF SUMMER airs tonight (July 5) at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on Freeform (U.S.) and ABC Spark (Canada).
Netflix and The CW Announce New Multi-Year Content Agreement
All of your favorite CW shows are coming to — or continuing to stream on — Netflix for the foreseeable future.
Today, Netflix and The CW announced the completion of a new multi-year content licensing agreement which will have all of The CW’s shows streaming exclusively on Netflix in the U.S.
The new relationship spans all current CW series, as well as all future programs produced for the network during the term of the new agreement, which begins with the just-completed 2015-2016 broadcast season. Starting with the 2016-2017 season, Netflix members will be able to stream full seasons for each of these programs beginning eight days after each show’s season finale.
Programming available to Netflix members will include the three new series on The CW’s 2016-2017 primetime schedule: FREQUENCY, NO TOMORROW and RIVERDALE; the hit DC series LEGENDS OF TOMORROW and SUPERGIRL, which will join ARROW and FLASH; and the network’s critically acclaimed JANE THE VIRGIN and CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND. The roster will also continue to include fan favorites such as THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and series THE 100, IZOMBIE, THE ORIGINALS and REIGN.
“Netflix members in the US love the great lineup of series from The CW, and we are thrilled to extend the relationship and bring those shows to our members exclusively now, just eight days after their season finales,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix. “This is a great step forward with a valued network partner to give fans exactly what they want, when and how they want it.”
“Since the initial landmark deal in 2011, The CW’s programming has enjoyed tremendous success and increased exposure through Netflix, and our new agreement not only continues but enhances this valuable relationship,” said Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW. “The CW has positioned itself for the future by transforming into a true hybrid network, rooted in broadcast while fully embracing the digital and streaming habits of the viewers.”
