During our recent visit to the set of SUPERNATURAL, Alexander Calvert (Jack) hinted that “[Jack] knows ultimately that the thing that’s driving Sam and Dean is their mother and the way that Jack can be of service to them is to open [the dimenstional portal up] and help Sam and Dean complete their journey in a way.”
But will Jack succeed in opening the portal? The SUPERNATURAL midseason finale may go a long ways to answering this question. In the episode, ominously titled “The Bad Place”, Jack really wants to prove to the Winchester brothers that he is a good person and that he can control his powers. To accomplish this he teams up with a dreamcatcher named Kaia, who he believes can help him find Mary Winchester and bring her back from the alternate universe. But as things usually do on SUPERNATURAL, the plans go awry and the Winchester brothers are the ones who need saving.

Kaia will eventually go on to the potential SUPERNATURAL spin-off, WAYWARD SISTERS, and the midseason premiere (which will air on January 18) will serve as a back-door pilot to the spin-off.
