2:33PM: In an effort to prevent anyone in the TCA audience from getting accidentally knocked up, CBS starts the panel of by handing out ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE branded condoms.

2:35PM: Good news: ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE is not a rip-off of Knocked Up. Bad news: It’s simply <strike>a rip-off</strike> based upon a book of the same name.

2:36PM: Because nothing says ‘funny’ like a single, pregnant film critic about to lose her job, a TCA member asks if protagonist Billie (played by Jenna Elfman) will suffer the same unfortunate fate that has befallen many of her real-life film critic counterparts. Umm…. we’re gonna go ahead and guess no.

2:39PM: What’s the one downside of no longer getting to commute to the New York based set of UGLY BETTY? “I won’t be getting as many air miles,” joked co-star Ashley Jensen, being sure to add on a more serious note, “I had a wonderful time on UGLY BETTY, was very sad to go, but am happy to be here. Plus, it would have been kind of difficult to be flying to New York with this all inside me [Jensen points to her belly, which if you didn't know, is expanding rapidly courtesy of the little bundle of joy that's growing insider of her]” Adds show creator Claudia Lonow, “Expect Ashley’s character to gain a lot of sympathy weight.”

2:41PM: And now it’s time for the game that has the audience all-a-twitter, “Finish That Sentence!” Here’s how you play: Simply vote for your favorite ending to the following sentence in the comments below. Ready…. When star Jenna Elfman reveals that she was attracted to ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE, “because I love comedy so much and I was bound and determined to find another show.” Is your favorite ending courtesy of, (a) hitfixdaniel, “In the meantime… ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE” or (b) Michael Ausiello, “Wait, she’s already lined up another project after ACCIDENTALLY?”

2:49: Full disclosure: The only bright spot from ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE’s middling pilot, well, aside from continued employment for ex-MELROSE PLACE tenant Grant Show is Billie’s obstetrician played by THE DAILYS SHOW’s Special Black Correspondent Larry Wilmore. And lucky for viewers, creator Claudia Lonow, who we’re just gonna say it —gives off a very Lisa Kudrow’s character from THE COMEBACK kinda vibe — promises he’ll be back, “We want to have him back as much as we can get him. I admire him as a writer and a performer.”

2:50PM: In what sure took us by surprise, it took a solid fifteen minutes for Grant Show to get the obligatory MELROSE PLACE question. And because we know you’re dying to know: (1) Yes, there have been talks about Show reprising his role as Jake Hanson, (2) He’s not opposed to it, and (3) Anything can happen and if it does, it will probably be next season.

2:53PM: Ashley Jensen is asked to compare her beyond-brilliant turn on Ricky Gervais’ beyond-brilliant series EXTRAS to ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE. Her answer, “it’s much more conventional that EXTRAS.” Which we’re fairly certain is code for a lot less funny.

You’ve read his take on the most promising fall shows and least promising ones. Now, in what we promise is our final look back at the Network’s UpFront offerings comes our very own Ken Tucker in-training Aleks Chan, with a look at the shows that fall somewhere in-between.

ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE (CBS)
After the horridly ill-conceived COURTING ALEX, Jenna Elfman returns to the small screen as Billie, a San Francisco film critic who hooks up with a younger guy and – surprise – gets pregnant. Pregnancy as a premise hasn’t always worked, and the clips don’t really provide much hope that AOP will be any different, but Elfman is one deft comedienne, so if anything, it’ll be tolerable.

EASTWICK (ABC)
Also known as Charmed Lipstick Housewives and the City. Based on the John Updike novel about three women (Lindsay Price, Rebecca Romijn, and Jamie Ray Newman) who are imbued with magical powers, it looks as tawdry and superfluous as I remember CHARMED ever was – not that there’s anything wrong with that.

FLASH FORWARD (ABC)
Everyone in the world blacks out at the exact same time and for the same duration, during which they see a few minutes into their futures. The preview opened with a “From the network that brought you LOST,” which only prompted the following afterwards: this is going to be convoluted, tricky show, and if they don’t do it right, will be painful to traverse.

THE GOOD WIFE (CBS)
Julianna Margulies plays victimized really well, so it should suit her well in this drama where she plays the wife of a politician (Chris Noth, very much channeling Mr. Big) who takes after Eliot Spitzer, forcing her to return to her work as a lawyer after taking 13 years off. As long as they don’t fall into a procedural trap, could be a rich piece of drama.

HUMAN TARGET (FOX)
Mark Valley stars in this adaptation of the DC Comic, about a private investigator/bodyguard who works by impersonating people close to his clients. A lot of explosions and running around in the trailer – could be campy fun as long as it keeps itself from going too far over the top.

MERCY (NBC)
It’s the GREY’S ANATOMY spin-off nobody asked for: a hospital drama about “feisty” and “complicated” nurses who can save others, but can barely save themselves. The cast (which includes newcomer Taylor Schilling, MEN IN TREES’ James Tupper and GOSSIP GIRL’s Michelle Trachtenberg) could save it from being utterly insufferable.

NCIS: LOS ANGELES (CBS)
The first of what I expect to be many spin-offs of the popular procedural that everyone seems to be watching but not talking about. The backdoor pilot already aired a few weeks back on NCIS, and looks to be about the same: the cast (which includes Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J) is perfectly capable, the stories nice and easy, and the tensions is about as tight as seatbelt – comfortable. It’s perfectly harmless TV. That’s either good or bad, depending on how old you are.

PARENTHOOD (NBC)
Based on the 1989 Ron Howard film starring Steve Martin and Dianne Wiest, it sounds exactly like what it’s about, and marks NBC’s second attempt to launch this series, its previous foray having been swiftly cancelled in 1990 (but coincidentally starred a then unknown Leo DiCaprio). This one looks more promising (and stars Peter Krause and Maura Tierney), if a bit of a BROTHERS & SISTERS knockoff.

SONS OF TUCSON (FOX)
Tyler Labine (REAPER) plays oafish sporting goods store employee Ron Snuffkin, who is hired by three boys to play their father after their own is sent to jail. Also reminds me of MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE (appropriately seeing how MITM’s Todd Holland directed the pilot), it will be entirely up to Labine, who’s shown his comedic chops before, to keep interest from waning.

THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE (THE CW)
I don’t why the CW didn’t just call it a MODELS INC. remake, because it’s essentially what THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE is: Pretty young models livin’ really hard, really expensive lives, except this time in New York.

THE CLEVELAND SHOW (FOX)
FAMILY GUY’s brand of irreverent, arbitrary, largely childish humor looks as if it will serve this spin-off well. Starring the otherwise harmless second banana Cleveland Brown, it follows him and his son as they start their new life with their new family. Just like FG, you’ll laugh, but it will probably be twice as empty.

THREE RIVERS
According to the official CBS description: THREE RIVERS is a medical drama that goes inside the emotionally complex lives of organ donors, the recipients and the surgeons at the preeminent transplant hospital in the country where every moment counts.

According to this TV Addict: With apologies to his legions of dedicated, passionate and very vocal fanbase, Alex O’Loughlin deserves far better than a re-tread of a failed TNT medical drama (see: HEARTLAND starring EVERWOOD alum Treat Williams)

ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE
According to the official CBS description: ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE is a comedy starring Golden Globe Award winner Jenna Elfman as Billie, a single woman who finds herself ‘accidentally’ pregnant after a one-night stand with a much younger guy, and decides to keep the baby and the guy.

According to this TV Addict: It’s KNOCKED UP the series! Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Especially when you surround the immensely likable Jenna Elfman with THE DAILY SHOW’s Larry Wilmore and UGLY BETTY’s criminally underused Ashley Jensen (Who we’re fairly confident saw more screen time in the above two minute preview than she did for most of BETTY’s third season.)

THE GOOD WIFE
According to the official CBS description: THE GOOD WIFE is a drama starring Emmy Award winner Julianna Margulies as a wife and mother who must assume full responsibility for her family and re-enter the workforce after her husband’s very public sex and political corruption scandal lands him in jail.

According to this TV Addict: Turning this run-of-the-mill legal procedural from good to great is the supporting cast which includes GILMORE GIRLS’ Matt Czuchry and SPORTS NIGHT’s Josh Charles.

NCIS: LOS ANGELES
According to the official CBS description: NCIS: LOS ANGELES is a drama about the high stakes world of undercover surveillance at the Office of Special Projects (OSP), a division of NCIS that is charged with apprehending dangerous and elusive criminals that pose a threat to the nation’s security.

According to this TV Addict: ZZZzzzZZZzzzZZZzzz.
