Ask anyone who has ever had the opportunity to interview BONES star David Boreanaz and they’ll tell you that unlike many actors, he’s a tell-it-like-it-is kinda guy. But while he has no problem taking not-so-subtle jabs at NBC’s ever-expanding slate of reality offerings (“Trying to take scripted shows off the air is not the best way to go,” he says), we did manage to find a rather surprising topic on which he had difficulty pontificating.

The stumper? Which episode of BONES — which airs its 100th outing on Thursday (Wednesday in Canada) — is his favorite.

“It’s hard,” he admits, speaking of the show the way a parent would its children. “Every episode really has a place in your heart! There are snippets of each show that kind of pop into my mind when I look back.”

Frankly, it’s easy to see why he might struggle with the question given that he’s not just a star of the show, but also involved in every aspect from directing to producing. And while others in his position might find themselves needing the occasional break, Boreanaz admits that he’s not very good at the whole “stop-to-smell-the-roses” thing.

“Hart [Hanson, the show’s creator] always says, ‘David, you really should just take a moment to be proud of what you’ve accomplished and be proud of the show. Take five minutes.’ And I’m always, like, ‘Yes, okay, I’ll take five minutes.’ And then after 30 seconds, I think, ‘How can we make this show better? How can we make these characters better?’” Boreanaz admits. “The bar usually is set pretty high for me in terms of some things. I’ll walk away from the show very happy, and I’ll set the bar for the next episode pretty high.”

As a result, he winds up finding different things to love depending on which of his many hats he happens to be wearing. As a producer, he focuses on the blank slate that was the show’s pilot. “I really enjoyed the pilot because you really have a sense of trying to start something new with challenges that are unique to a show where you can sense a chemistry and connection between these two characters.” But as a director, he takes time to single out the work of fellow director moment Ian Toynton’s work. And as an actor, he reflects fondly on those little moments integral to the development of a character. “I remember an episode in the first season when Emily’s character and I were playing air guitar and jamming out. You kind of develop through the character’s unique qualities.”

So did the actor ever imagine he’d have 100 episodes to develop a character with more people watching than ever before?

“It’s a very interesting thing and one that’s kind of unique to our show. We really took off last season I think and the interesting part of it is that the show premiered very strong for what it was worth, kind of had a slight dip as the season’s kind of progressed, but once we learned the ropes, learned how to shoot the show and get episodes under our belt we really developed into something quite unique.” says Boreanaz. “More-so now then ever it feels like we’re in a unique position where we can premiere on a thursday night and take some shows out, it’s pretty impressive and goes to show the type of viewing that television is today. People want to sit back, relax and watch an entertaining hour of a show.”

And really, who are we to argue with David Boreanaz?

BONES will air its 100th episode at 8PM Thursday April 8th on FOX (Wednesday Aptil 7th on Global TV in Canada)

Welcome to our morning round-up of big/interesting TV news that you may have missed over the past 24 hours because unlike us, there’s a fairly good chance that have a life outside of the small screen.

Good News: On Monday, David Boreanaz and wife Jaime Bergman welcomed a healthy baby girl into the world. Bad News: Named Bardot, which probably won’t serve her well in the school yard. Better News: Until of course the kids realize, “Wait your dad is David Boreanaz!” [People]

Let history show that on Saturday August 29th at 8:45PM Twitter officially became uncool. Thanks @jongosselin1.

Sarah Connor may not be back… but the next best thing will soon be thanks to her portrayer Lena Headey signing onto HBO’s highly anticipated GAME OF THRONES. [MoRyan]

As expected, AMC has given MAD MEN an early fourth-season renewal. Hopefully on the condition that creator Matthew Weiner decides to add a little plot development to what has slowly devolved into a brilliant, albeit somewhat arduous-to-watch character study. [The Live Feed]

Is David Boreanaz the new Rodney Dangerfield? That’s the question this TV Addict finds himself asking after yesterday’s TV Week headline announcing that “Fox Orders Six Scripts for BONES for 2009-10 Season.” I mean come’on FOX, six scripts? Get serious!

Not only has BONES admirably filled the “Most Valuable Player” void left by the dearly departed THAT 70′s SHOW. It has done so against all odds, including multiple pre-emptions for everything ranging from AMERICAN IDOL to President Obama, four time-slot changes in as many seasons and a total lack of marketing muscle, the likes of which is usually reserved for high profile newcomers such as FRINGE, LIE TO ME and GLEE. Add to that, the fact that BONES has helped to finally make FOX a force to be reckoned with on Thursday night (as per TV Week), “boosting the network’s season-to-date average in the 8PM time-slot by 43% in adults 18 to 49 and by a whopping 74% in overall viewers,” and one can’t help but wonder: What’s a guy gotta do for a little respect around here?

Most Unfortunate Show Title of the Week
With FOX’s DO NOT DISTURB officially becoming the first causality of the fall season, this TV Addict must now ask the slightly obvious yet incredibly awkward question. Who picked the title? I mean far be it from a lowly television blogger to criticize the ‘Proverbial Powers that Be,’ but would it not have made a little more sense to go with a slightly more positive moniker? Something along the lines of CHECKIN’ IN! GOING UP! FILLED TO CAPACITY! THE UNTITLED JERRY [DON'T HATE ME BECAUSE I'M MARRIED TO REBECCA ROMIJN] O’CONNELL PROJECT. We’re just sayin’ DO NOT DISTURB practically dared the audience not to tune in. And unfortunately mission accomplished.

Career Misfire of the Week
After requesting to be released from his duties as President Laura Roslin’s right-hand man on BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, actor Paul Campbell has unsuccessfully leveraged his upward momentum into a failed Bill Lawarence pilot for THE WB [NOBODY'S WATCHING] and a supporting role on the this week’s embarrassingly bad KNIGHT RIDER re-boot. Which begs our second question of the week. Who’s Mr. Campbell taking career advice from, Vincent Chase?

Ridiculous Plot Contrivance of the Week
If you ask us, the brains behind LIPSTICK JUNGLE laid it on a little too thick in an effort to ensure the sympathy vote went their series regular’s way. Not only did they turn Nico’s barely-cold-in-the-ground husband into an equal opportunity cheater [gasp!]. They gave him a baby on the way and made sure Nico discovered he already had one foot out the door [double gasp!]. What’s next? An untimely connection to Lehman Brothers? Could Nico’s husband really have been responsible for America’s recent economic woes? Stay tuned…

Favorite Dynamic Duo of the Week
Amidst the massive conspiracy that is well, massive dynamics — who’d have thought the highlight of the series thus far would be the simple father/son dynamic between Peter and Walter Bishop. It’s almost as if the Gilmore Girls got sucked into the Twilight Zone.

Least Favorite Dynamic Duo of the Week
After last Sunday’s Emmys, theTVaddict.com thinks we uncovered the one thing that would anger BONES star David Boreanaz more than having Michael Ausiello ask another question about ANGEL. Getting paired with reality TV D-lister Lauren Conrad as a Emmy presenter. Aaawwkwward.

I think it was my generations Plato, Homer Simpson who said it best. When he summed up his feelings in one succinctly brilliant word. “D’OH!”

Can someone tell me why exactly your very own TV Addict didn’t throw caution/responsibility/financial security to the wind and shell out the bucks to head to Los Angeles for last night’s FOX SUMMER TCA PARTY? I mean talk about your hindsight is 20/20. A mortgage payment would have been a small price to pay to spend the night hobnobbing with the likes of J.J. Abrams, Joss Whedon, Lena Heady, Thomas Dekker, Summer Glau, Hugh Laurie, Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz, Wentworth Miller, Brian Austin Green, Olivia Wilde… well you get the idea.

So a quick heads up friends. If you notice anything ‘wonky’ on theTVaddict.com throughout the day. And by ‘wonky’ I mean spelling and grammar mistakes above the usual levels. Please keep in mind that they’re simply a bi-product of the incredibly large amount of tears that are pouring down on my keyboard at this very moment.

Seriously, how did I NOT attend this party. I mean click the link below for more of what I missed.

With BONES returning to FOX tonight at 8PM [GlobalTV in Canada] with the first of six brand new episodes, series star David Boreanaz was kind enough to take some time out of his busy schedule to chat it up with reporters about what fans can expect from the rest of the season, why BONES isn’t on the bubble and let’s face it, the one thing every BONES fan is dying to hear about — the aftershock from November’s big kiss.

1. On the creation of Booth as a character.
Well, I was given the pilot. I read the pilot and I created everything that you’re seeing on screen as far as that character is concerned, what you see physically. And it can’t happen without the words, obviously, but as far as the physicalities and as far as the belt buckle, all the stuff that you see is stuff that I brought to that character.

Everything that they told me about the FBI I threw out the door in a lot of ways. I respected it. I went through the idea of it. I took the approach of the military aspect of the guy working for the FBI rather than a guy who came right out of Harvard and he’s a penny loafer and pencil pusher guy who gets kicked around and who is afraid to get his feet wet.

For me, it was more interesting from that angle with the military guy who was a blue collar guy. And from there, everything exploded. So, you know, I highly, highly respect what they do. When it comes to using any kind of firearms or entries into buildings, I don’t mess around with. I do it as cleanly and as professionally as I can the way they would do it. I work with a great guy, Mike Grasso on the show who is with the LAPD who is fantastic so for me, that is very, very authentic to a T, but there is stuff, character stuff that I like to bring.

2. On his favorite things about Booth.
He’s a real blue collar guy which I’ve really embraced. So it’s been an interesting process with him and I embrace my socks because I wear the same socks. I embrace a lot of the stuff he does. Booth is, obviously, a little bit more Catholic than I am and I wish I was more of a practicing Catholic, but I’m not. I guess that would be one thing I dislike about myself sometimes is I’m not very religious.

3. On working with co-star Emily Deschanel.
We work on every episode on the weekends with Ivana Chubbuck, who is an acting coach out in Los Angeles. Her credits are huge and very respected and she helps us find a lot of those moments. We come in pretty much with an improvisational arc, knowing where we are going to add stuff, where we’re going to take things. So, by the time we show up and rehearse, we throw that down so when we’re shooting we just, we kind of throw it all out on the table. All this stuff comes out, but I think that’s the beauty of our relationship and our chemistry is really solid and it’s only getting better.

We did a scene yesterday, which was just so much fun. We really started pushing each other’s buttons and it was fun to have the ability to go there with a co-star who does that with you and also being in the freedom zone of a third season instead of thinking, oh, well, you know, this show has got x amount of years left so I don’t have to really work hard because it’s just a show. It’s quite the opposite because now you have the beauty and the freedom to do stuff as a producer to allow yourself to go to those places that you weren’t allowed to in the first season, which makes the show even better.

4. On Booth and Bones getting together.
The function of the relationship really is the function of the show in a lot of ways. These two characters drive these plot lines; they drive these shows. They put them in circumstances or in areas that they not necessarily wouldn’t think they would be in and it brings them closer together as characters or it pulls them apart.

You know, the kiss, for example, on Christmas. You know, it was a dare and they both knew it was coming and it brought them closer. Obviously, it won’t affect them greatly, but they know that the kiss happened and I think it happened smartly the way they did it. I think, though, we’ll start putting ourselves into those situations and those areas, but we’re not going to go to a place where it’s completely hole nine; we’ll keep teasing and flirting with the audience. I don’t think that’s a problem at all.

5. On how the WGA Strike has affected the show.
I think the whole serial killer story-line was affected and the way we will pretty much wrap that up and how we’ll wrap it up, which is pretty much a part of a two-parter that we shot before the writers’ strike.

We shot a potential season ender, which was a big cliff hanger and very dangerous and detrimental to a character and in the second part we finished that up in a way that I think will keep the audience guessing and we’ll at the same time see how the relationships between these two get better.

There are stories that we wanted to tell that we couldn’t because of only getting six episodes in now and future plans for other episodes, you may see us shooting in a different part of the world, who knows? That might be a possibility.

6. On the subject of shooting in different parts of the world.
I know that there have been some talks about that. I hope that that happens. I’m pretty confident that the trip somewhere will occur for a couple of shows. That’s the exciting part as far as that is concerned. And as far as Stephen Fry is concerned, I know we’d love to have him back on the show because he was great to work with and it was a really great character. And see him even interact with Sweets, if that would be possible it would be great.

7. On BONES constantly being called a ‘bubble show’.
I don’t think the show is on the bubble. It’s a very successful show. We’re a different show; we’re a cult show that strives itself on relationship and we’ve proven if we’re on Wednesday or Tuesday or Friday or even Monday that our fans will follow us. And we pride ourselves on the relationship with this show and we pride ourselves that we’re with a great network and studio with Fox.

8. On BONES constantly shifting around the FOX schedule.
I don’t place the show or tell you where the show should be placed. That’s not my job. My job as an actor is to come in and portray a character and do the best that I can. I can’t get caught up in what time slot it’s at or where they’re moving it to or who it’s paired with. I do know that the shows are of the best quality and I think the best on television as far as a relationship show is concerned I think it’s the best. And if you take these two, the new shows that are coming out, especially these new fresh six shows that are coming and you’ll see the relationship just take off.

Unfortunately we had a writers’ strike that kind of intercepted what I thought was the start of a great, great third season and we’ll finish off a fantastic third season, which we believe there are just unbelievable shows that are going to just expand these characters and this relationship. There is no show out there that has a therapist that has to deal with a couple’s counseling for them to deal with each other in the work force. That’s not on television.

9. On his favorite episode.
I really enjoy anything I do with Emily, obviously, any scenes. As far as one complete episode is concerned I like the Halloween episode this year. It was a lot of fun. I got to play a Nerd. That was fun. I also liked the season opener of season two, which was a lot of fun. I loved the pilot. I mean, that’s the pilot, really; you have to go back to the pilot because that’s like the fresh, new, the possibilities are endless, you know what I’m saying?

10. On possibly directing.
You know, it’s just a great opportunity to embrace and you take that for what it’s worth and have fun with an episode. I don’t know what the episode is going to be like yet. I have a lot of original ideas that I’ve actually pitched to Hart that I kind of would love to be a part of as far as the fruition of an idea and even put my pen to paper and even do some writing.

But those are opportunities you have to take advantage of as an artist if you’re in that position and use it. I mean you’d be foolish not to. I think that if you’re in the medium and you have a possibility or an opportunity to do it then you should go for it.

We’re not exactly sure if this is news to fans, but we at theTVaddict.com just came across yet another reason to cheer for BONES star David Boreanaz. David Boreanaz Is an “Angel for Animals”

Every day, millions of dogs are left chained and unattended in backyards across the U.S., shivering in the cold or panting from the heat, often with no more than a shoddy, makeshift shelter to protect them from the elements.
