Having made a career out of creating characters fans love to hate, actress Melinda Clarke knows a thing or to about playing the villain. Just don’t tell her that. In fact, Clarke, whose memorable roles includes stints on THE OC, CSI, and more recently NIKITA, prefers to see her small screen alter egos as “misunderstood” in reaction to different challenges in life that may-or-may-not motivate them to be mean or a drama queen! Still not buying it? Take a look at what Clarke has to say about some of her most infamous roles for yourself, after the jump.

Lady Heather (CSI)
Melinda Clarke: On CSI it was very interesting because people always ask if I did any research to play Lady Heather and I say no because it was written by Jerry Stahl. Jerry Stahl was a TV writer who then wrote a book about himself. He was a writer on the show ALF, was a heroine addict, got sober, did Oprah and was eventually the subject of a movie, Permanent Midnight with Ben Stiller. Anyways, he was the one that wrote that very first CSI episode and anything I needed was right on the page and that’s very rare in television. It was so layered and it absolutely fit like a glove. When I got that role you get the material at 7PM at night and then you’re auditioning by 10AM the next morning and it was all there, the writing was just amazing.

Julie Cooper (THE OC)
Melinda Clarke: I think THE OC was an incredible lesson because it was a small role with a couple of lines in the pilot. With a role like Julie Cooper, I always like to do the opposite of what’s written on the page. So if she has a bitchy line, it’s done with a smile. What I realized on that show is that for the first time what I was bringing to work everyday was inspiring for the writers. In television the writers are everything and if they don’t write for you, you’re off the show. I don’t even know if my character was supposed to be around but all of a sudden they started writing for Julie Cooper and it got more and more humorous. [Creator] Josh Schwartz was just good at getting to know the actors and what would work for them.

Kelly Donovan (THE VAMPIRE DIARIES)
Melinda Clarke: I was brought on as a dysfunctional mother but she had her reasons for being dysfunctional. What they didn’t end up exploring [with the character] was that she was as succubus. They decided a few episodes in — as I was killing men left and right, the ultimate black widow — [Executive Producers] Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec called me in halfway through and said they weren’t going to continue the story. Not so much that it wasn’t working out, but they just felt like to explore the storyline they would want more episodes and since it was just the first season and my character was only going to be around for a few episodes, they didn’t see how they could resolve it. Television really is about the writers and how they’re inspired to write and if they see a storyline but don’t see how they can resolve it they end it or yank it very quickly.

“Melinda Clarke” (ENTOURAGE)
Melinda Clarke: I play a fictitious version of Melinda Clarke. In that show she drives a Ferrari and I drive a Prius and I think it’s confusing to people who think I’m married to Malcolm McDowell and going through hundreds of millions of dollars after a divorce, it’s not real! But I have such a good time doing it because it felt like the complete antithesis of say NIKITA which is like a comic book with heroes and villains. On ENTOURAGE you get to be funny, raunchy, relaxed and I’m sad to see it go. I told [creator] Doug Ellin that if he ever does another show like this he has to let me do it because it’s dramedy, which is one of my favorite things to do and I credit THE OC with teaching me that.

Amanda (NIKITA)
Melinda Clarke: At the beginning of the show [Executive Producer] Craig Silverstein said I want Amanda to be mysterious an enigmatic because once I go there I have to go there so they’ve purposely kept me in the dark. It’s clear that Percy is after money and power, where as it’s not so clear with Amanda. She might be a little bit more idealistic than any of us think. Ultimately she’s one of the smartest people in the room and a master manipulator but at the same time she’s still a human being. Last season everyone kept talking about how mean she was to Alex and villainous, but I saw her more as the ultimate tiger mom. It’s so funny, they tell us nothing and Maggie loves to tease me by telling me I’ve got some cool stuff coming up, and I’m like as long as it’s not outside in the middle of a cold winters night in Toronto! It’s very much an ongoing learning experience with the character.

Melinda Clarke can currently be found on NIKITA every Friday at 8PM on the CW (CTV Two in Canada) Catch up on past episodes you may have missed for free online at clicktowatch.tv

After eight seasons of Hollywood Hijinx, this Sunday September 11th marks the end of the road for ENTOURAGE. Luckily for actor Rex Lee — who credits the hit HBO series with “changing my life and my world” — there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

For cushioning the blow that is the series finale of the show that put him on the map is a supporting role in ABC’s much-buzzed-about single-camera comedy SUBURGATORY. A role that will see the actor segueing from put-upon assistant turned agent to put-upon guidance counsellor for new student and series star Tessa (Played to pitch-perfect perfection by Jane Levy).

“The way that Mr. Wolfe is similar yet different to Lloyd is that if Lloyd is maligned in a very sort of overtly abusive way, Mr. Wolfe is maligned in a sort of neglectful way,” said Lee on the differences between his SUBURGATORY and ENTOURAGE characters. “Mr. Wolfe is experiencing a great deal of neglect from the people he’s trying to guide and help and it’s not until Tessa comes to town that he has someone who actually talks to him. So he’s just really excited.”

Also exciting for Lee are the rumors of an ENTOURAGE reunion on the silver screen that simply refuse to die. Explained Lee, “I’ve heard nothing. I know that they were talking about it, I know that everybody wants to do it and lately I’ve noticed in the press that a lot of my castmates are very definitely saying we’re going to do it. But that is not official, so I will not say that.”

What Lee will say is that regardless of what the future has in store for him career-wise, he will never be one of those actors who forgets his roots. Which is to say, unlike many <strike>ANGEL stars</strike> actors who shall remain nameless, he’ll always have a special place in his heart for the role that turned him into a household name.

“It was certainly something I thought about in the beginning until I very quickly came around to thinking that it was a good problem to have,” admitted Lee when asked if he ever worried about becoming ENTOURAGE’s “Screech” equivalent. “If at the end of my career all I have to show for it is that people associate me with Lloyd, that’s not bad. In fact, it’s incredibly flattering.”

SUBURGATORY stars Jane Levy, Jeremy Sisto, Allie Grant, Alan Tudyk, Ana Gasteyer, Cheryl Hines and Rex Lee and premieres this Wednesday September 28th at 8:30PM on ABC (CityTV in Canada)

Are you heading to Comic Con? — Jessica
The TV Addict: Sadly, no. Due to a lack of a private jet and/or money tree growing in our backyard, this TV Addict had to make somewhat of a “Sophie’s Choice” this summer. Thus, rather than choose to spend four days in the sweltering and sunny Petri dish that is beautiful downtown San Diego, we’ve opted to spend the first week of August in what we suspect will be a frigid Beverly Hilton Hotel ballroom for the summer instalment of the Television Critics Association Press Tour. That said, if you’ve come to theTVaddict.com for San Diego Comic Con coverage, we’ve got you covered thanks to West Coast senior editor extraordinaire Tiffany Vogt and her phenomenal photag sister Jennifer. So stay tuned.

Any word on how the newest addition to BONES (Read: Brennan’s baby bump!) will effect BONES this season? — Raquel
The TV Addict: Since Hart Hanson and Co. are being understandably tight-lipped with regards to how Brennan’s baby will affect BONES this season, we hope some details on a new arrival of a different variety will suffice. According to sources, replacing the dearly departed Mr. Nigel-Murray this season will be Finn Abernathy, an 18 year old not-so-Southern gentleman. Why not so Southern you ask? Well, put it this way, he managed to get his undergraduate degree while being confined to a juvenile detention facility.

Your recent visit to the set of DEGRASSI did not result in the bounty of scoop I was hoping for. Are you holding back on us? — Allie
The TV Addict: Boy are we ever! And as much as we would love to share the major, some might say life-altering event that we were lucky enough to witness, this week’s visit to the set of DEGRASSI came with some serious strings attached. Namely, we aren’t allowed to share details about the special set that was constructed, or the clothes that were being tried on during the scene we watched. But rest assured, when you do finally get to see what transpired in early 2012, it will be worth the wait.

I really enjoyed the interview with Justin Kelly the newest addition toDEGRASSI, but curious if you got to chat with any other cast members? — Madison
The TV Addict: Indeed we did. Stay tuned next week for two candid interviews with Ainslinn Paul (Clare) and Melinda Shankar (Allie), both of whom who had some very surprising things to say about their character’s relationship statuses this season.

Silas’ stint as a nearly nude model on last weeks episode of WEEDS may have been the best thing to happen to my television since TRUE BLOOD’s clothing budget got cut in half! Please tell me his modelling career continue. — Taylor
The TV Addict: Unfortunately, Silas’ attempt to become America’s Next Top Model (Side Bar: After umpteen cycles is anyone else curious as to why AMERICA’s NEXT TOP MODEL hasn’t attempted an all-male season?) will take a brief hiatus when he accompanies Nancy to California where she’ll confront Jill in the battle for custody of baby Stevie. But, on a more positive note, a major series regular from the show’s first two seasons (Aka. WEEDS: The Glory Years) will make a shocking, not to mention very welcome return by episodes end.

Love me some FALLING SKIES but somewhat worried about the fate of those poor kids having left the safety of the “Second Massachusetts.” Any chance you can assure me they’ll be okay? — Linda
The TV Addict: We could, but what fun would that be! So rather than simply spoil what happens on Sunday during what is arguably the show’s most exciting episode to date, we’ll simply say that the safety of the “Second Massachusetts” young’ins will come at a cost that may-or-may-not involve the death of a character we’ve known since episode 1.

With ENTOURAGE kicking off its final season this Sunday is there any hope at all for a happily-ever-after for Eric and Sloane? — Lindsay
The TV Addict: While the first few episodes of ENTOURAGES eighth and final season won’t give Eric and Sloane shippers a reason to pop the champagne just yet, news that Melinda Clarke shared with us during this past weekends Polaris Event in Toronto certainly should. According to Clarke, the hilariously heightened version of herself that she plays on the hit HBO show will be returning for a three episode arc at the end of the series and while we have no idea as to why, we suspect that noise you’re hearing in the not-to-distant-future is… wedding bells.

Please tell me that the new 90210 showrunners aren’t ruining Naomi — the only reason I still watch the show — by keeping her pregnant this year? — Gary
The TV Addict: If a picture is worth a thousand words, the spoilerific photo posted below snapped during filming of 90210′s first episode back should probably help assuage your fears.

If my Twitter feed is any indication, a slew of lucky TV types have already been given the opportunity to check out at least some of Fall’s new offerings. Are you one of the lucky ones, and if so, what our your thoughts thus far? — Mike
The TV Addict: Seeing as though we were only granted access to a select number of Fall pilots under the strict condition that we were not allowed to “review” them (Cue Boilerplate: Episodes were provided for planning purposes only. NOT FOR REVIEW. Episodes are rough cuts that contain temporary picture, graphics, audio and music) our thoughts on what is already shaping up to be a far more exciting September than its predecessor will unfortunately have to wait. Well, except to say one thing that we’re fairly confident the proverbial powers that be won’t mind us spilling: When it comes to shows that may-or-may-not star Emily Van Camp, Sarah Jones and Jennifer Morrison, we are already counting down the days until we can find out what happens next.

Any scoop on ENTOURAGE’s final season? — Alison
The TV Addict: Suffice it to say, after last season’s drug bust, Vince’s career won’t be the only thing going up in flames. So much so that your very own TV Addict has just learned that the gang’s not-so-humble abode will be going up in smoke thanks to a incredibly irresponsible amphibian named Turtle. Oh, and that’s not the only thing heating up this summer. According to sources, one gang member’s hard-partying ways may come back to haunt them in the form of a bun in the oven. But will it serve as the wake up call Vince needs to turn his life around? Stay tuned…

Any chance you happened to pick up any intel on the always mysterious Observers during last week’s Paley Event honoring FRINGE? — Dave
The TV Addict: We didn’t, but our West Coast Correspondent extraordinaire Tiffany Vogt did, who was on the scene and had this to say, “Are FRINGE’s Observers really angels in disguise? Not according to producer/writer Akiva Goldsman who made a point to emphasize that FRINGE is not an exploration of science versus religion. In fact, he shared, ‘[FRINGE] is an exploration of the experience of life — the dramatic and intense humor — with relationships seen through the mirror of science fiction’.”

I’m so stoked about GENERAL HOSPITAL finally having gotten rid of headwriter Bob Guza. Any early hints as to what the new guy, Garin Wolf, might have in store? — Brenda
The TV Addict: We’re hearing buzz that a popular character from the past could be returning… albeit with a new face. A casting call recently went out for a 30something female described as “caucasian/Italian, dark haired… accomplished… self-confident.” Okay granted, if the description stopped there, it could be just about anybody. But get this: The casting notice goes on to describe the character as having a “blue collar, Brooklyn background of unfettered fire and passion.” Starting to ring any bells? What if we throw in “leans toward letting her hair down in no-label jeans and simple leather jackets over a bottle of beer”? Sounds to us a whole lot like Lois Cerullo, played most famously by Rena Sofer and later Lesli Kay. Viewers will recall that Lois was married to Ned Ashton and is the mom of Brook Lynn. If one of Wolf’s first moves is to bring back the classic character, he’s off to a good start. Look for the character — whether it be Lois or not! — to first hit the airwaves in late summer or early fall.

I can’t seem to turn TNT on without seeing ads for FRANKLIN & BASH. Is this new series worth checking out? — Amber
The TV Addict: Judging from the slew of guest stars that we were just informed will be joining Breckin Meyer (Franklin) and Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Bash) in the coming weeks — including but not limited to Natalie Zea (June 8), Fred Willard (June 8), Harry Hamlin (June 22), Tom Arnold (June 29 ), Beau Bridges (June 29 ), Jason Alexander (July 6), Tommy Chong (July 20), Kathy Najimy (July 20), James Van Der Beek (July 27), Tricia Helfer (August 3) — we’re going to go out an a limb and say yes.

Any intel on the new season of COVERT AFFAIRS? — Sandy
The TV Addict: Still seething over BP’s handling of last year’s Gulf Coast disaster? The writers of COVERT AFFAIRS sure as heck seem to be. Or at least that’s what we’re assuming based on an upcoming story line that will see Annie, Ben and Joan head off to Mexico city to save a roomful of oil executives who are being held hostage by an terrorist organization… Or so we’re led to believe.

Any idea as to why I should bother checking out ABC Family’s upcoming new series SWITCHED AT BIRTH? — Jordana
The TV Addict: Having not had the chance to screen the pilot yet — which tells the story of two teenage girls who discover they were accidentally switched as newborns in the hospital — we have very little to say on the subject. Luckily for ABC Family, co-star Lucas Grabeel (HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL) didn’t need any prompting when asked that very question during a recent interview, “I think it’s got a lot of heart. It’s kind of an interesting concept because its not something that we think about on a day to day basis. We woke up one day and found out that the people who raised us our whole lives were not our real biological parents and that we had been switched at birth. Kind of a crazy thing to be put in as that position, but also coming from the parent’s point of view, raising this child that you think is your kid. You call this love and you think you’re doing everything that you can to be right and everything flips upside down and you kind of have to deal with the madness. So, it’s a very interesting concept. I think that’s really drawing me to loving the project even more.”

Cannot wait for WEEDS return, any scoop? — Jason
The TV Addict: Funny you should ask , because just as we were about to pad this week’s edition of “Ask the Addict” with some newly-released photos from the upcoming seventh season of the hit Showtime series, some fairly big scoop popped up in our inbox. Turns out, when WEEDS returns this June 27, Nancy will have just completed a three-year (!) stint in Federal Prison. She’s now in New York, where she must complete her probation in a strictly monitored halfway house, which means she’ll have to deal before curfew, wile re-starting her business from scratch. Meanwhile, the boys – Andy (Justin Kirk), Silas (Hunter Parrish) and Shane (Alexander Gould) – who were camped out in Copenhagen – are now Big Apple-bound with Doug (Kevin Nealon) in tow, of course and will be stirring up major trouble.

Also joining the adventure this season are Martin Short as an eccentric attorney in at least 3 episodes, Aidan Quinn (Prime Suspect) who plays a charismatic investment firm CEO in at least 4 episodes, Jennifer Jason Leigh who returns for 4 episodes as Nancy’s estranged sister Jill Price-Grey who has been watching Little Stevie while Nancy was incarcerated. Lindsay Sloane (Grosse Pointe) who has signed on for 6 episodes as Maxeen, an eccentric conceptual artist who Andy (Kirk) meets at a gallery event, and noted actor David Clennon (Ghost Whisperer) will play her husband, Charles. Pablo Schreiber (Lights Out) will star as Demetri Ravitch, an army supply sergeant and brother of Nancy’s former cellmate Zoya (guest star Olga Sosnovska), who begins to supply Nancy in her newest endeavor. And Gary Anthony Williams (Mad, The Boondocks) will play Ed Watson, Nancy’s halfway house counselor.

Your recent streak of DEGRASSI scoop has been nothing short of astounding. Care to keep the streak alive? — Mandy
The TV Addict: Despite the fact that we would very much prefer you characterize our recent streak of DEGRASSI scoop as “remarkable” rather than “astounding,” we are more than happy to oblige. If only to put to rest one of the big concerns we’ve been hearing from a handful of DEGRASSI fans since we broke the news about cast additions for the upcoming eleventh season. Rest assured, said additions will in no way take away screen time from the current cast you’ve come to know and love. So much so that upcoming eleventh season episodes will have one student of the male persuasion tackle the taboo that is shoplifting, another who is no stranger to trouble finding herself confronted with cocaine, while a third fan favorite is forced to deal with the baggage that comes when two squabbling parents fail to handle their divorce as maturely as one might hope.

Any PRIVATE PRACTICE scoop? — Jennifer
Not-so-fun-fact: Fans have not seen the last of Charlotte’s harrowing rape storyline, which will return to the forefront in the upcoming PRIVATE PRACTICE season finale when Charlotte is forced to re-live her terrifying ordeal in an effort to help treat another survivor.

With the summer season just around the corner, watch-cha got for us WAREHOUSE 13 fans? — Brian
The TV Addict: While it probably won’t come as much of a surprise to fans that last season’s finale that saw Myka exit from her job at the Warehouse won’t be permanent (well, duh!), what might come as a surprise is what happens next. When WAREHOUSE 13 returns this summer for its highly anticipated third season, Myka will be forced to re-team with a former co-worker at the Denver Secret Service to track down the prime suspect in the death of her partner and lover, Sam Martino. Meanwhile, on a lighter note, freshly minted agent Steve (Aaron Ashmore) will work with Claudia when they experience their own close encounter forcing them to rely on a canine friend as their only eye-witness.

Any NIKITA news? — Jeff
The TV Addict: The upcoming season finale of NIKITA (Note to the CW, we said season, not series finale) will find our titular heroine caught between a rock and a hard place when Percy overplays is hand. Turns out, blackmailing key members of the CIA in an attempt to become acting CIA director may not have been one of his best ideas! Particularly when three of the aforementioned key members of the oversight committee that created Division kidnap Alex and instruct Nikita to kill Percy.

Earlier in the month Michael Ausiello hinted to the fact that something bad will go down between Amber and her Prom date on PARENTHOOD, care to elaborate? — Gill
The TV Addict: Not really. Except to say that what goes down between Amber and her date at prom is just the beginning of a really tough time for Amber that may-or-may-not end up with the entire Braverman clan taking a trip to the Emergency Room.

HELLCATS’ interminable has been well hell, anything to help us fans pass the time? — Shaindy
The TV Addict: Expect major hurdles for those cheerleaders when an infectious disease threatens their eligibility for Nationals. Oh, and did we mention that not helping the situation will be the unexpected arrival of Marti’s long lost not-so-daddy-dearest who has a not so cheery history of alcohol and drug abuse.

Klaus! Klaus! Klaus! When are we finally going to meet the big VAMPIRE DIARIES baddies that we’ve heard so much about? — Bailey
The TV Addict: After almost a season of hype, Klaus will finally arrive on the April 21st episode appropriately titled, “Klaus.” Of course, like everything on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, there is a slight catch. Said mysterious baddie will first be revealed via flashback when a trip back in time to 1941 reveals Katherine’s introduction to Elijah and Klaus, along with the origin of the moonstone curse.

I can’t handle the uncertainty dammit! Will there or won’t there be a wedding on GREY’S ANATOMY by the end of the season? — Ally
The TV Addict: Well as usual, this is another one of our favourite good news bad news type of situations. Which is to say, there will be a wedding, but it will probably will not be under the circumstances that fans are expecting.

I’m absolutely loving “TV Showrunner Madness”, but find myself disappointed by the number of favourites — including BREAKING BAD’s Vince Gilligan and THE WIRE’s David Simon — that were regretfully left warming the bench. What’s the deal? — Dillon
The TV Addict: The deal is that TV Showrunner Madness — as evidence by the fact that we kicked off the competition during the final week of March — was a very last minute idea that popped into our head. Rest assured, next March, expect the field of 32 to be expanded to include all of your favourites because let’s face it, we know a good idea when we accidentally stumble on one!

Is there a reason you never seem to talk about PSYCH on this website? — Rayna
The TV Addict: There is a very good reason we never talk about PSYCH on this website and it goes a little something like this: We don’t get USA Network on our cable package! That said, we do get inside intel, which is why we hope to make up for our lack of PSYCH scoop with the hilarious title to an upcoming sixth season episode, “Shawn Rescues Darth Vader.”

Any word on how my homeboy Vinnie Chase has been doing since he got arrested in last season’s ENTOURAGE finale? — Mike
The TV Addict: Not too good actually. Vincent Chase has spent his hiatus holed up in Promises Rehab Center in Malibu. But before you start to worry that the eight and final season of ENTOURAGE will play out like an episode of Dr. Drew’s CELEBRITY REHAB, don’t! When ENTOURAGE does return, it will kick off with Vince being released from rehab, where the big question everyone in Hollywood will be asking is whether or not the once young promising star has what it takes to put his life [and career] back on track. Our money’s on yes, how about you?

Well that about wraps it up folks for this edition of “Ask the Addict.” if you’ve got a question for the TV Addict, you can email me directly at info@thetvaddict.com or follow me on twitter @thetvaddict.

Welcome to our morning round-up of big/interesting TV news that you may have missed over the past 24 hours because unlike us, there’s a fairly good chance that have a life outside of the small screen.

On Friday, Jon Gosselin sat down with GOOD MORNING AMERICA’s Chris Cuomo to complain that the media and the tabloids are exploiting his children for financial gain. Apparently, if anyone is going to exploit his children for financial gain it’s going to be him and Kate. After-all, they were totally there first. [E! Online]

Good News: In an effort to inject some more laughs into the fledging sophomore comedy, a SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE cast member will be dropping by Amy Poeher’s PARKS AND RECREATION this fall. Bad News: Said cast member is its weakest link, the highly unfunny Fred Armisen. [EW]

Contrary to popular belief, the Charles Toberman Estate (a Los Angeles mansion most famous for being the home of Vincent Chase and Co. during the first two seasons of ENTOURAGE) did not try to end its own life following the embarrassment that comes with being associated with the current dreadful season of ENTOURAGE. Rather, it was an unfortunate victim of the tragic wildfires that are currently plaguing California. [PerezHilton]

What do 90210 star Shenae Grimes and the TV Addict have in common? Well, aside from a lack of acting ability on both our parts, a love of Pinkberry. Score one for Shenae! [LA Times]

While critics and fans alike have pretty much declared the gang from ENTOURAGE — as Bruno might put it — so 2007. This TV Addict — understanding full well that nothing ever really happens on the show— remains unapologetically head-over-heels in love with Vinnie, ‘E,’ Turtle and Drama. Seriously, nothing gets us ready for a busy work week than an endless barrage of insults from one Ari Gold on Sunday nights at 10:30PM.

That said, last night’s less that stellar season opener did leave us scratching our head for a multitude of reasons. Not the least of which is why on earth the show — which is known for its fairly realistic portrayal of the inner-workings of Hollywood — would allow for an episode to air with such outdated references to a now ‘TONIGHT SHOW-less’ Jay Leno and a MY NAME IS EARL-free Greg Garcia (whose series was unceremoniously dumped by NBC this past May).

Adding to last night’s curious case of the unentertaining episode of ENTOURAGE was Vince’s quest for a driver’s license (Which if you ask us was a plot far more be-fitting a very-special episode of THE BRADY BUNCH), the back-and-forth between Eric and Sloane (Which, with apologies to actor Kevin Connolly who we’re a big fan of, stopped being interesting three seasons ago), and finally, the issue of Lloyd’s weight (Which is either an understandable side-effect of actor Rex Lee’s proximity to In ‘N Out Burger, or part of his brilliant plan to pull a ‘Tom Hanks ala Castaway’ and shed the pounds within 100 days as per Ari’s insistence).

Stay tuned…
