A Not So HAPPY ENDING? A Closer Look at ABC’s Friday Night Scheduling Strategy

happy endings season three castBy: BigTVFan

Despite popular opinion of the show’s fans – of which I count myself a big one – I honestly believe ABC is a fan of HAPPY ENDINGS. In fact, I think they would love nothing more than the shows ratings to match the mega-talent of its phenomenal cast and its clever writing. Unfortunately, the simple fact of the matter is that some shows — no matter how good — just don’t connect with mainstream America like a somewhat similar comedy about young early thirty somethings named NEW GIRL. To me, HAPPY ENDINGS has a very mainstream feel not unlike FRIENDS (although it’s different from that show on many levels.) And while I never expected it to get FRIENDS like ratings, I can’t explain why the show cant seem to get above a 1.3 and 4 million viewers in same day ratings. [Read more...]

happy endings penny

There are a whole lotta reasons to celebrate tonight’s return of HAPPY ENDINGS (airing tonight at 9 p.m. EST on ABC), but chief among them is the always-entertaining Penny Hartz (as played by Casey Wilson). Look up the term “scene stealer”, and you’ll find her picture… interestingly enough, right next to those of her cast mates. While last season, it was declared that The Year Of Penny had come to a close, we’re still going to single her out by shining a light on five of the lines she used to win us over! [Read more...]

Ask the Addict: Spoilers for BONES, CASTLE, HART OF DIXIE, PARENTHOOD & More!

Care to add anything to the deluge of scoop that has recently come out about BONES upcoming eighth season premiere? — Lisa
The TV Addict: Do we ever. That said, since we aren’t prepared to spoil the circumstances surrounding Booth and Brennan’s very satisfying and surprisingly physical (!) reunion, we’ll simply say this: Not only do creator Hart Hanson and Co. outdo themselves with an immensely satisfying season opener that leaves a surprisingly large threat over the Jeffersonian looming, Hodgins gets to show a side of himself that will have fans buzzing even moreso than whether or not Brennan decides to keep her blond locks!

Will those of us who have been anxiously waiting four seasons for Castle and Beckett to succumb to their mutual attraction be happy with the the show’s fifth season opener? — Jennifer
The TV Addict: CASTLE fans will be pleased to discover that happy doesn’t begin to describe our feeling while watching the fifth season opener (Grinning ear to ear just might!). Playing to the show’s strengths, creator Andrew Marlowe and his writing staff do a magnificent job of juggling the aftermath of Castle and Beckett’s steamy night of passion with the weighty and emotional subject matter surrounding the truth Beckett’s mom’s demise. Suffice it to say, when fans aren’t busy giggling over Castle and Beckett’s attempt to keep their rendezvous a secret (Seriously, the cold open is priceless), they’ll be on the edge of their seat as the crime-fighting duo race to beat Cole Maddox from… well, something we’re not about to spoil here. Oh, and while we’re on the subject of gushing about CASTLE, in this current television landscape littered with awesome-butt-kicking-take-no-prisoners heroines, Stana Katic’s Kate Beckett doesn’t get the credit she deserves. Or at least that’s what fans will be tweeting following her climactic confrontation with one of the show’s special guest stars. [Read more...]

With television talent both in front and behind the camera making a habit of tweeting photos ranging from spoilerific to hilarious, theTVaddict.com thought it might be fun to introduce a new feature to the site that we’ve not-so-cleverly decided to call “Photo of the Day.” Today’s subject, courtesy of Casey Wilson (@caseyrosewilson), comes a sneak peek at some of the hilarity that is in store for HAPPY ENDINGS fans when the show returns this Fall. Tweeted Wilson, “Penny gets “The Rachel” (for one episode only. One glorious ep only)”

BODY OF PROOF
You Take the Good: Hovering in and around the 2 million mark in terms of coveted 18-49 viewers, BODY OF PROOF ended a fairly middling season on a ratings high point.
You Take the Bad: Stars Dana Delany and Jeri Ryan deserve so much better than this tedious write-by-numbers procedural.
You Take Them Both and There You Have… Our Prediction: Despite Delany and Ryan’s value on the international market, BODY OF PROOF will not make the cut when ABC announces their new fall slate in mid-May. [Read more...]
