HAVEN Star Emily Rose Talks About Playing a Villain, What Mementos She Kept, and Her Future Projects

With only eight episodes left until the series finale of HAVEN, series star Emily Rose looks back on what it felt like to play a villain, her chemistry with Lucas Bryant and her future projects in this exclusive interview with The TV Addict.

Were you as surprised as the fans when you learned that your main persona, Mara, had created the Troubles?
Emily Rose: I wasn’t super surprised because I knew she was evil and that was part of the description of when she was given to me…

I think I was more surprised to discover a bit of the history behind the Troubles which will come out later… Like why they were created with what mentality etc.

What was the most challenging thing about playing multiple personalities?
Hoping that they would read differently… And then playing them opposite of each other when they were in a scene together…. Also there were times Mara would play being Audrey and that was a major mind trip for me when I would have to go there.

Did you enjoy playing a villain?
This was really fun, I hate to admit it 🙂 I think what was fun though, wasn’t that she was a villain but that MARA enjoyed her set of circumstances every time. Audrey even though she is good, rarely is enjoying her circumstances because they are so dire… And because she isn’t in control. MARA is in control and enjoys the chaos, so being able to play a happy, cunning, playful character was a nice change.

How did you feel about about Audrey not only being immune to the Troubles but also the fact that Nathan could no longer feel her?
This was sad. I really felt how trapped she felt also not feeling that special as well as wanting to connect with Nathan and wondering if this would effect that, and the relationship they had. Heartbreaking in some ways.

Speaking of Audrey being her own person, did you have to dye your hair when playing Lexie/Mara?
I dyed my hair when I was Lexi…. That season so we could add the extensions easily but because we knew Audrey should emerge (after the split) blonde…. We started the season out blonde and Jo Anne (my hair extraordinaire) wigged me as Mara. So switching back and forth would be simpler and do less damage to my hair.

You have great chemistry with Lucas. How was your chemistry with Colin Ferguson?
Oh thanks! It takes two! Chemistry is so vital to a successful series isn’t it? Yes, Colin and I had run into each other and hung out at various SyFy events, we would joke around and so naturally when I heard he was joining us, I was super happy! He’s really good and a super quick study so that makes it easy to trust when in a scene together.

What’s your favorite food? Are you a black coffee and cupcakes gal like Audrey?
Ha! Not a black coffee girl at all actually. I am a decaf & tasty vanilla or creamery kind of girl…. I definitely like the froo froo drinks 🙂 And yes, how can you turn down a cupcake…. You can’t really.

Did you get to keep anything from the set?
Yes, I kept the clock from the bullpen, my badge, my notebook…. And a painting of Lunenberg, although that hasn’t been shipped yet.

How will the fans feel about the series finale?
I hope they like it, that is, reminds them of where we began and gives them a bit of hope…. As well as serves the whole story that things aren’t always as perfect as they look.

Do you have any new projects in the works, and if so, can you tell me anything about them?
Just finishing up the 4th and final installment of the Uncharted video game series. That comes out early 2016, I believe. And also getting ready to have my second son which is very exciting. Then I plan to hit the ground running come January!

HAVEN Star Eric Balfour On A Duke Spin-off, Playing Nathan and The Series Finale

Fans of FOX’s smash hit 24 will remember Eric Balfour as CTU analyst Milo Pressman but his fanbase has grown immensely since starring alongside Emily Rose and Lucas Bryant as Duke Crocker, the criminal with a heart of gold, in SyFy’s HAVEN. In an exclusive interview, the actor tells me about his favorite Trouble, his new project, and why Duke chose to stay in Haven.

How do you imagine Duke’s life in Haven would’ve turned out if he never involved himself with the Troubles?
Eric Balfour: Probably drunk on a beach in the Maldives combating a urinary tract infection while presiding over a small clan of wild gelflings. Look up the dark crystal if the word gelfling means nothing to you.

Other than Duke’s, what was your favorite Trouble?
The one with a Bridge Over Water…

Did you wear contacts while filming the scenes where Duke’s eyes changed or was that CGI?
No, a grip wore a green screen suit and painted my eyes with washable Crayola markers and then we CGI’d the grip in the green screen suit out…

Why did Duke choose to stay in Haven after everything he’s been through?
Gas prices and a lack of decent public transit in the US.

Justine, who was an extra on the show, wants to know did you take time to relax after Haven wrapped?
You meet like a foot massage or manicure? My wife made me get a pedicure once but I found the whole thing rather uncomfortable and didn’t appreciate all the women in the salon staring at me like I didn’t belong. In hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have dressed so slutty.

You’ve changed your hair every season. What length do you usually prefer to have it?
I’m honestly just trying out different styles until I can get an appointment with Chase Cusero who does Jared Leto’s hair.

Melanie on Facebook wants to know how do you feel about the fans wanting a Haven spin-off about Duke?
I just frickin love those guys and would totally be into a Duke spin-off as long as DJ Qualls, Alison Brie, and Tony Manero were in it…

Which role reversal scenario did you enjoy acting out most: Detective Crocker or Nathan? By the way, Lucas told me that he was more handsome as Duke and that you’re stunning.
Definitely Nathan because just like the song says, “When I think about you I touch myself.” Or himself as it were…

Do you have any new projects in the works, and if so, what can you tell me about them?
I’m creating a one man show about a guy… That’s pretty much all I’ve got so far.

How do you think fans will feel about the finale?
I think they all better have plastic sheets on the couch ’cause there’s going to be a lot of peeing. I bet you thought I was going to say crying didn’t you??? Moded!

It’s no secret that Lucas enjoys pancakes, but what is your favorite food?
A place in Seoul called the Win Cafe.

HAVEN Star Lucas Bryant On The Series Finale, His Favourite Trouble and Upcoming Projects

After five seasons, SyFy’s hit series HAVEN will beginning airing its final episodes tonight at 10PM. In a hilarious exclusive interview, series star Lucas Bryant, the man behind Nathan Wuornos, tells me about playing a character with no physical sensation, his directorial debut, and his upcoming projects.

How does it feel to know that Haven has such a cult following?
Lucas Bryant: It was always pretty cool to meet fans from all over the world who traveled to visit us. Either on set, or at conventions, the love and support of HAVEN fans was definitely something I could feel… and seeing the same faces over the years showed me how loyal they were too. Pretty amazing. I’ve always wanted to start a cult. A nice cult. This might be it.

Did you ever sustain any injury while filming scenes where Nathan suffered physical trauma?
I never injured myself in a scene where Nathan suffered physical trauma. But in a scene with Duke, Nathan was supposed to be really frustrated, so I kicked the steel bumper of the Bronco… really hard. Not smart. Very bad idea. Really hurt. The Bronco is very tough. My boot filled up with blood. But of course Nathan couldn’t show it so…

Sandra on Facebook wants to know how did you prepare to play a character with no physical sensation?
Thankfully, I’m a very insensitive and rather heartless person, so it wasn’t much of a stretch. No. I’m not like that at all. But I know many insensitive and rather heartless people. So I studied them. This is all a lie… I can’t tell you my secrets.

If Nathan could switch Troubles, which one do you think he’d choose?
The one that makes everything you eat turn into pancakes. I think.

lucasbryantsays on Twitter would like to know was there something you had to do on-screen that you were not entirely comfortable with?
The scenes with Mara were initially uncomfortable, but that was from a story point of view. I was like “Really? Nathan’s gonna kiss Mara? Why?! Why would he do that?! She’s like… the devil!” But then they were like, “Calm down, Lucas. Go put some clothes on… come back and talk to us when you’ve slept…” So I did. I think they were right. It ended up working out.

Was it your idea to direct the episode “Enter Sandman,” and if so, why did you choose that particular episode?
Nope, it just worked out that way, and I’m so thankful it did. The most amazing experience. And one of my favorite episodes of the series… seriously. Thank you, Shernold Edwards.

Which role reversal scenario did you enjoy acting out more: Doctor Hansen or Duke?
They were both a blast… anything like that is exciting for an actor. But I felt like I was more handsome as Duke. He’s stunning.

What’s next for you now that Haven’s wrapped? The fans all say they wish to see you in more projects.
I’m working on a very cool new series called “Shoot the Messenger,” which is coming out in 2016 and “The Girl King,” a beautiful little feature I worked on last year is coming out soon!

irish_tear on Instagram wants to know will you stay in contact with the Haven cast?
Of course. I will. I do. I have. I love them muchly.

Is there hope for Haven having a happy ending, especially for Nathan and Audrey?
There is always hope. What else could there be? No hope? Nope. There is hope.

HAVEN: A Truly Terrifying Trouble Terrorizes One of Our Heroes

Season 4 of Syfy’s drama series HAVEN has brought all kinds of surprises: multiple Troubles, morphing Troubles, and one devious newcomer known as William (Colin Ferguson).  We all thought we knew the rules of Troubles. But we were wrong.  Just as soon as William popped through the portal door, he was stirring up all kinds of trouble and giving people new Troubles – ones that neither they, nor their ancestors had before.  William proved time and time again that he could create a new Trouble and infect anyone he wanted.  He also showed that he could also change a person’s Trouble, causing it to manifest at an earlier age or have a wider range than before.  William is literally a Trouble-maker.  Then we found out that he is but one-half of a Trouble-making pair:  Audrey (Emily Rose) is his split-apart – meaning anything that happens to William, happens to her, which was shockingly proven when Nathan (Lucas Bryant) shot William and Audrey developed a gunshot wound too.  This has made it exceedingly difficult to get rid of him.  Our HAVEN heroes cannot simply kill him, as much as they desperately want to.

That leaves them in a huge conundrum:  how to solve a problem like William?  Worse yet, the longer he’s around, the more he seems to bring out the worse in Audrey.  He’s not just a thorn in her side, he’s actually bringing to the surface memories of her former existence – the original Audrey, the one who may or may not have relished cursing the residents of Haven with the Troubles, one-by-one over a century ago. HAVEN: Who Is the Real Audrey Parker?

Try as I might, one nagging feeling has been tickling my brain all season: this is not the Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) that we know and love.  At first, she did not even try to be.  She was Lexie Dewitt (Emily Rose).  Then after Jennifer (Emma Lahana) opened the portal door back to Haven, Maine, Lexie reverted back to Audrey.   Her personality in the barn as Lexie was stripped away and revealed the person that she wanted to be:  Audrey. HAVEN Central: Part Two of Our Exclusive Interviews with Star Eric Balfour and Writer Shernold Edwards On Season 4’s Surprises

As HAVEN fans saw in last week’s episode “Crush,” Duke (Eric Balfour) and Jennifer’s (Emma Lahana) relationship took a decidedly romantic turn. For the girl who kept hearing voices in her head, which helped in rescuing Audrey (Emily Rose), Jennifer has become an integral part of their everyday HAVEN lives. She even joined the Haven Herald as a cub reporter and has called Duke’s boat home. After all they had gone through, including the near murderous attack by Duke’s brother Wade (Christian Camargo), it was hardly a wonder that some feelings had been triggered. But as Duke and Jennifer finally kissed in last week’s episode, that was no mere tentative embrace. It was full on roaring passion and television screens were simmering from the heat. But just what does that mean? Is Duke’s proclaimed love for Audrey now gone and is he finally moving on? [Read more…]
