After forcing stars Jordana Spiro and Kyle Howard to exit both LOVE BITES and PERFECT COUPLES respectively as a result of contractual obligations to their little watched comedy MY BOYS, TBS has officially done what everybody expected them to do months ago, cancel MY BOYS.

In this week’s Entertainment Weekly Fall TV Preview, CASTLE executive producer Andrew Marlowe teased that “tension will be amped up with the arrival of a serial killer known as the Triple killer.” Quick, can somebody get this guy a copy of DEXTER season four on DVD? Seriously. We’re all for for the Nathan Fillion vehicle going all out in an effort to stave off the surefire popularity of their much-buzzed about new time slot competitor HAWAII FIVE-0, we’re just not sure inviting comparisons to John Lithgow’s Emmy winning performance as the somewhat similarly monikered “Trinity Killer” is really the best way to go.

Despite having made piece with the common practice that is TV Studios releasing seasons on DVD within mere spitting distance of a show’s season premiere in an effort to get the most marketing bang for their buck, rather than provide fans the opportunity to possibly catch up. We do feel it necessary — particularly on the eve of LIFE UNEXPECTED’s second season premiere — to ask the somewhat awkward, albeit painfully obvious question: Just how are fans supposed to jump on the bandwagon when somebody forgot to release LIFE UNEXPECTED’s first season on DVD?

Following one of the most publicly scrutinized contract negotiations in recent history, it appears that Fox and Team J.Lo have finally reached an agreement to pay the artist formerly known as “Jenny from the Block” a mere 12 million dollars for a season of sitting behind a desk and quashing the dreams of IDOL hopefuls on AMERICAN IDOL. The operative word phrase here being, “a single season.” Which means, after months upon months of fervent speculation and rumor, we’ll see you all back here next year for round 2!

Today marks the one year anniversary of the embarrassing debacle that was THE JAY LENO SHOW on NBC. Remind us again who thought that was a good idea? Oh right, that would be no one!

As word continues to leak out of the sinking ship that is <strike>the Titanic</strike> NBC with regards to yesterday’s shocking (albeit somewhat inevitable) news surrounding the failed experiment that is THE JAY LENO SHOW, questions and analysis continue to flood the internet with regards to what the Peacock Network should do with Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Fallon and Carson Daly assuming Leno does in fact return to his 11:35PM timeslot following the Olympics in March.

That said, for this TV Addict — whose late night schedule is already reserved for the dynamic Comedy Central duo that are Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert — the far more pressing question is just how on earth NBC plans on replacing the five hours left vacant by Jay Leno returning from whence he came?

Needless to say, we’ve got a few ideas (cough*PARENTHOOD Thursday nights*cough*cough) But, before NBC announces their hastily thought out plan to fill the void with an even bigger BIGGEST LOSER or LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL CRIMINAL TRIAL BY JURY, this TV Addict thought we best be putting our two cents down on paper, and fast. After-all, if the Peacock Network has taught us anything this past season (Well, aside that is from how to not run a network), it’s that clearly, very little thought goes into running this multi-billion dollar business

Which brings us to our pitch.

Question: What does NBC love even more than cheap programming? Answer: A series with an already built-in fan base and obvious name recognition (See: Re-imaginations of BIONIC WOMAN, KNIGHT RIDER and the upcoming PARENTHOOD). Which is why our candidate for a 10PM slot this spring would go to none other than President Matt Santos and a re-boot of THE WEST WING.

Think about it. Thanks to the highly underrated seventh season, not only does the John Wells series have a proven concept ready to go, but with the exception of Bradley Whitford who is already committed to the upcoming new FOX series JACK AND DAN a cast that is waiting in the wings. Plus, if there was ever a time when the country could use a little Aaron Sorkin magic to get us believing in the political system again (See: the never-ending health care debate, the economy and the fact that it took me a solid three hours to get through airport security yesterday because the office of Homeland security can’t seem to stop a terrorist even after his own father personally went out of his way to alert the US government) it’s now. Santos ’10… who’s with me?

Jay Leno will get downsized.
NO, unfortunately we are not calling for the end of the unmitigated disaster that is THE JAY LENO SHOW. Well, at least not yet. Rather, we predict that after successfully taking the pressure off NBC for the 2009/10 development season, the band-aid that is Jay Leno’s 10PM talk show will slowly begin to be peeled off. Allowing for the Peacock Network to commence the long and arduous process of reclaiming their dignity starting with Thursday nights at 10PM, which will return to the realm of scripted fare in Fall 2010.

Simon Cowell will remain on American IDOL.
Much to the chagrin of competing networks, Simon Cowell will not be throwing in his trademark V-neck T-shirt. Forget the rumours, reports and speculation, because the facts are these: There is absolutely no way FOX is going to allow their golden goose to simply fly the coop. Seriously. Whether it requires Rupert Murdoch to personally back up the proverbial Brinks Truck and in the process make Cowell the highest paid personality in television history, or completely tailor IDOL’s schedule to allow him the time he needs to properly import his UK hit THE X FACTOR to America, you can take this to the bank; Cowell will be back.

SUPERNATURAL and SMALLVILLE will both be renewed.
If the CW inability to field a complete Monday to Friday schedule this season has illustrated anything, it’s that the little-network-that-could certainly doesn’t have the financial wherewithal to develop the five to ten pilots necessary to properly replace their aging roster of once-hit shows. Which is why we are confident both SMALLVILLE and SUPERNATURAL, with their incredibly loyal fanbases will be renewed for a tenth and sixth season respectively.

Freddie Prinze Jr. is the new Jack Bauer.
Having already seen the first four hours of Jack Bauer’s eighth consecutive really bad day, one thing is abundantly clear. <strike>Katee Sackhoff has been saddled with one helluva disappointing character arc</strike> Complete with another round of the three “M’s” (Mistaken identities, obligatory Moles and Middle Eastern Terrorists) Jack Bauer is getting too old for this Sh*t! Which is why, should Kiefer Sutherland decide that he’s tired of saving America’s butt year-in-and-year-out, waiting in the wings is newly introduced brash young CTU agent Cole Ortiz, played by the surprising likeable Mr. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr.

Jake, aka ABC’s new BACHELOR, will prove to be a crashing bore.
Says our resident reality expert CouchTater who dropped us an email to let us know that, “Jake, who was on last season is dull as dishwater. Hot as hell, but dull as dishwater.”

Okay, we’re gonna say what everybody else has been thinking in the wake of SOUTHLAND’s shocking cancellation: Jay Leno is a showkiller.

Let’s face it, so far, nobody at NBC has offered up anything even close to a rational explanation for why they would renew the brilliant-but-controversial series, pony up the cash for numerous episodes and then pull the plug before a single season-two outing could air. But it doesn’t take a genius to connect the dots and realize that upon looking at the episodes — which star Michael Cudlitz told Mike Ausiello were deemed “too dark” by the network — NBC realized they were in a no-win situation.

SOUTHLAND — with its gritty storylines and bleeped dialogue — is a 10 p.m. show.

Thanks to Leno, NBC doesn’t have a 10 p.m. timeslot available.

Ergo, SOUTHLAND is homeless.

In a way, this may be the best thing that could ever happen to SOUTHLAND, which, frankly, was too good for network television. Here’s hoping that in the next few weeks, word will come down that Showtime or HBO is picking up the series, dropping the bleeps and letting SOUTHLAND blossom into the cable hit it was always meant to be.

Meanwhile, the folks at NBC need to reconcile themselves to the fact that they’ve chosen quantity over quality by offering up the cheap-to-produce Leno in primetime. If they can live with that — along with defecting viewers, sacrificing such long-running hits as LAW & ORDER SVU (which is hemorrhaging viewers in its earlier timeslot) and having burned their bridges with John Wells, whose ER was a network staple for years — more power to them. But in the meantime, they might want to think about the vicious cycle they’ve set in motion: Viewer viewers during the 10 p.m. hour means viewer people at whom to pitch the rest of your line-up. Wise up, guys. Before it’s too late.

Good News: According to the Hollywood Reporter, multi-camera comedies are primed for a comeback. Bad News: Starting with ABC’s HANK and FOX’s BROTHERS [THR]

Good News: Now you too can sleep in the same bed as THE OFFICE star John Krasinski! Bad News: Assuming of course you’ve got a spare 1.245 million dollars lying around to purchase his West Hollywood home that was recently put on the market. [BlockShopper]

Good News: UGLY BETTY’s Michael Urie and Becki Newton are back with another season of their hilarious web-only series MODE AFTER DARK. Bad News: Web only does not a spin-off make. Seriously ABC President Stephen McPherson, we’re waiting. [EW]

If there was one downside to attending last night’s FOX Fall Eco-Casino Launch Party (see above photo of your very own TV Addict ‘gleeking’ out with a few familiar faces!) it was that I missed out on some fairly important premieres. Which is why yet again I’m turning it over to you — my far smarter and better looking readers — to put your critics hat on and post away with your thoughts on last night’s premieres of GOSSIP GIRL, ONE TREE HILL and THE JAY LENO SHOW.
