Ratings: TGIT Shows Rise for Fall Finales

The ABC TGIT shows – GREY’S ANATOMY, SCANDAL and HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER — all got a nice boost for their fall finales. But several shows fell a bit, including BONES, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and SLEEPY HOLLOW.

Two ABC comedies — THE GOLDBERGS and MODERN FAMILY — rose on Wednesday night, as did EMPIRE in the demo. But SVU was down 0.6 in the demo after last week’s VOICE lead-in.

Several shows held steady in week-to-week ratings, including SCANDAL, HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and THE BIG BANG THEORY. HEROES REBORN, meanwhile, dropped two tenths in the demo and ELEMENTARY was down 0.2 from last week’s premiere.

Well, it was bound to happen. EMPIRE slipped again to a season low, but still remained the clear leader of the night. ROSEWOOD also went down by 0.1, as was THE GOLDBERGS, but the other ABC comedies remained steady. And LAW & ORDER: SVU went up by 0.5, thanks to some help from a VOICE results show lead-in. Over on The CW, ARROW fell, but SUPERNATURAL rose slightly.

On the heels of its season 2 renewal announcement, BLINDSPOT remained steady in the ratings last night. CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND and JANE THE VIRGIN were also steady with last week, but both SUPERGIRL and CASTLE slipped slightly (SUPERGIRL was down another half point in the demo).

Ratings: EMPIRE Takes a Slight Dip, CRIMINAL MINDS Reaches Series Low

After returning from its World Series break, EMPIRE fell a bit in the demo, but the show is still a powerhouse. Over on CBS, CRIMINAL MINDS hit a series low in the demo. SVU held steady and ARROW gained a tenth in the demo, but SUPERNATURAL dropped again after rebounding a bit last week.

It wasn’t a good night for a lot of scripted shows, many of which took a dip in the ratings. For example, SLEEPY HOLLOW went below 1.0 in the demo, SCANDAL was down 0.3 from last week and all three NBC shows also dropped slightly. There was some good news for GREY’S ANATOMY and THE ORIGINALS, however, because both of them grew by 0.1 in the demo this week.

In terms of total viewers, CBS won the night with football (10.66 million), followed by ABC (7.64 million), NBC (4.94 million), Fox (4.39 million) and The CW (1.24 million)

EMPIRE dipped again this week, but it’s still a clear ratings winner. ARROW and SUPERNATURAL also dipped slightly from last week’s premieres, but things were steady over on NBC. Meanwhile, NASHVILLE improved a tenth over last week’s episode for ABC.

THE MUPPETS and LIMITLESS were down this week from last week’s ratings, while CHICAGO FIRE had a decent enough opening, improving on last year’s season finale, but down from last year’s premiere. THE FLASH was also 0.1 from its premiere last week, while iZOMBIE was off two tenths for The CW. And over on Fox, THE GRINDER dipped below 1.0, while GRANDFATHERED and SCREAM QUEENS both dropped by 0.1.

The CW aired the season premiere of JANE THE VIRGIN and the series premiere of the terrific CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND on Monday night, but both shows had soft ratings. Over on CBS, LIFE IN PIECES and SCORPION were relatively flat from week to week, while GOTHAM and MINORITY REPORT held steady on Fox.
