REIGN Sneak Peek: Mary is Running Out of Options

reign

Has Mary, Queen of Scots run out of options? It certainly looks that way on REIGN. In a new clip for this week’s episode, Mary returns home from Rome with bad news: the Church will not help her secure her position in Scotland. Instead, Mary may be forced to sacrifice her cousin’s life to save her own, as well as her throne.

Elsewhere in the episode, Catherine’s past continues returning to taunt her, while Lola and Elizabeth become very unlikely allies in England.

A new episode of REIGN airs tonight (May 2) at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

REIGN Sneak Peek: Crowing a New King

Mary, Queen of Scots, is returning! REIGN comes back with all new episodes soon and Mary is still faced with an uncertain future. Charles’ impending Coronation is looming over the French court. Mary seems supportive of her brother-in-law and, in a clip from the new episode, she hands him a handkerchief that Francis used to use. Their relationship is amicable, but Mary still needs to secure her own fate. As such, she needs to find a powerful suitor to align herself with.

Meanwhile, in England, Lola inadvertently discovers the identity of Elizabeth’s poisoner. And back in France, Catherine becomes “a new kind of victim” for the castle’s serial killer, according to the network.

REIGN Sneak Peek: Elizabeth Makes Her Move

reign

Don Carlos didn’t die as a result of his accident on REIGN, but he’s a very changed man now. Fortunately, he remembers nothing of the role Mary and Catherine played in the accident. His mental faculties are no longer what they were, but Catherine and others have convinced Mary that marrying Don Carlos would put Spain’s might behind her and be a good match for her since Don Carlos is too docile to be a mean husband.

But that plan may go out the window in this week’s REIGN. Mary will become increasingly suspicions abouot Don Carlos’ actual condition and turns to Gideon to help her uncover the truth. Elizabeth also makes a shocking discovery (see this EW sneak peek for what she learns) and she’s going to force Dudley to make a big decision. Elizabeth also reaches out to Spain to make a formal marriage offer to Don Carlos, which obviously threatens Mary’s chance to get Spain’s support behind Scotland.

While the queens of Scotland and England fight over the right to marry Don Carlos, Narcisse will be forcing Claude into a marriage of his own choosing — against her wishes.

REIGN Photos: Political Intrigue, a New Crush and an Arranged Marriage

reign

REIGN will be going on an extended hiatus at the end of January to make room for THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and THE ORIGINALS on Friday night, but before the show takes a break there’s a lot of courtly intrigue coming, along with political backstabbing and a royal wedding.

When Catherine is accused of poisoning Francis (Toby Regbo), Lola (Anna Popplewell) is shocked when Mary thinks Narcisse (Craig Parker) framed Catherine in order to become Regent of France.

Episode 3.09 “Wedlock” (January 15): Mary (Adelaide Kane) becomes suspicious of Prince Don Carlos’ (guest star Mark Ghanimé) true condition and relies on Gideon (Ben Geurens) to help her uncover the truth. Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) makes a shocking discovery which could change the course of her reign over England and forces Dudley (Charlie Carrick) to make a tough decision. Meanwhile, Narcisse (Craig Parker) forces Claude (Rose Williams) to marry someone of his choosing, against her wishes.

Episode 3.10 “Bruises That Lie” (January 22): Mary (Adelaide Kane) struggles to resist her feelings for Gideon (Ben Geurens) as she works to align herself politically with potential allies. Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) and Greer (Celina Sinden) find themselves in similar heart-wrenching situations with the potential for very different outcomes. REIGN Photos: Family Reunion

reign

Catherine was banished from court last season on REIGN and we saw her make her way to England to scheme with Queen Elizabeth to take down Mary. And while the two women make a go of trying to discredit the Scotish Queen in the season 3 premiere (read spoilers), Catherine will be reunited with her family soon enough.

In fact, as early as episode 3.02, Catherine will be back with Francis, according to photos from the episode. More specifically, she’ll be held captive by her own son and will be visited by Mary, Francis and Charles, who is back in France. Back in England, Elizabeth will be dealing with the political backlash of colluding with Catherine.

Meanwhile, Mary will make difficult decisions to secure Scotland’s future, while Lola will be conflicted about her feelings for Narcisse. Will she start a secret relationship with him since a courtship between them has been forbidden by Francis?

See photos below for the October 16 episode of REIGN airing at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

REIGN Season 3 Premiere Teasers: The War of Queens

Reign

There’s a great deal of political maneuvering in the season 3 premiere of REIGN, along with romantic entanglements and and an air of mortality. Mary is on the offensive, having to fight two queens and a dwindling supply of funds in France. Here’s five things you need to know about the season 3 premiere:

Scheming in England. Elizabeth is encountering resistance among her privy counsel advisers who don’t like what they’re calling her personal vendetta in Scotland. Behind closed doors, Catherine is advising her, but their recent plan to force Mary to abdicate her Scottish throne failed. Still, Catherine is nothing if not resourceful and has come up with a Plan B: get the Pope to withdraw his support of Mary and remove her power by disgracing her in the eyes of the Church. Meanwhile, we’re introduced to Robert Dudley, who is — as history has told us — in a forbidden relationship with Elizabeth. But when she insists they can’t continue it, he asks to leave court and she refuses to let him go. Her impossible relationship with Dudley leads Catherine to Plan C: marry Elizabeth off to her son, Charles, in order to weaken Mary further.

Facing the End. In France, Francis is attempting to live his life to the fullest, now aware that it will likely come to an end very soon. He’s going to admit the secret of his illness to someone at court and he’s grooming his brother Charles to become the next King. Naturally, this might upset Elizabeth’s plans to wed the boy.

Rogue Pirate. Narcissie continues to provide valuable intel to Mary and Francis and he delivers the news that Mary’s power in Scotland is waning. In order to secure more funds for their troops in France and in Scotland, Francis and Mary hire a pirate to help steal them some gold. He arrives at court with much fanfare (and a lion!) and takes a particular interest in Greer. Mary doesn’t encourage the match at all, but Greer seems eager to do what she can for Queen and country. Still, she may not be prepared for the lothario pirate’s ways.

A Courtship. While Greer is being entertained with the pirate, Narcisse continues to make his interest in Lola quite clear. She’s resistant to pursue a relationship with him out of fear — both of him and of Catherine — and Francis has forbid a courtship. Still, Narcisse is nothing if not persistent.

Witch Hunt. Bash is still on the hunt for the mysterious Delphine and there’s something very odd going on with him. In addition, we’re going to learn more about Delphine’s abilities.

REIGN returns for an all new season on October 9 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
