PRESS RELEASE: After record-setting premiere ratings on the network’s Sunday night line-up and continued year-to-year audience growth, SHOWTIME has picked up brand new seasons of SHAMELESS, HOUSE OF LIES and CALIFORNICATION for 2014. The announcement was made today by David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc.  Season-to-date, all three series are pacing above their prior seasons across platforms. The third season of SHAMELESS is up 22 percent, currently averaging 5.4 million weekly viewers across platforms (vs. second season average of 4.4 million), and up 63 percent versus its first season (vs. 3.3 million). The second season of HOUSE OF LIES is averaging 3.2 million weekly viewers across platforms, up 10 percent from its freshman season (vs. 2.91 million), and the sixth season of CALIFORNICATION is averaging 3.1 million weekly viewers, up 21 percent versus season five (vs. 2.5 million). Production for the new seasons of all three series will kick-off in Los Angeles later this year.
 
“CALIFORNICATION, HOUSE OF LIES, and SHAMELESS possess highly distinctive comedic voices, and given that all three continue to grow their audience season after season – the pick-up decision was easy,” said Nevins. “I am incredibly excited to see what each of these series has in store for their next seasons.”
 
SHAMELESS, HOUSE OF LIES and CALIFORNICATION returned on January 13 with their highest-rated episodes ever, up double-digits versus their series averages and besting their prior season premieres and season finales. In its third week (January 27), SHAMELESS delivered 2.53 million viewers for the night, the series’ biggest total night ever, outperforming the season three premiere night (vs. 2.44 million – 2 plays). On Sunday, HOUSE OF LIES’ third episode was on par with its season premiere, which delivered the series’ best numbers ever, with 1.4 million viewers for the night across two plays. CALIFORNICATION’s third episode attracted 1.05 million viewers.

Now that Showtime has wrapped up the respective seventh and second season of DEXTER and HOMELAND with two fantastic season enders this past Sunday, attention can finally be paid to what is hands down one of our most anticipated returning shows of 2013. Yes, the family that puts the fun into dysfunctional is back for a third season of hilarious hijinx starting this January 13th at 9PM and here with your SHAMELESS first look at some of the craziness that awaits the Gallagher family and their extended brood is theTVaddict.com. Unfortunately, to reveal the seriously cool scene on which the spectacular second season ends would probably not be in our best interest of a website proprietor who very much welcomes TNT’s penchant for dropping off screeners at our door! Thus, we’ll simply say this: Not only will FALLING SKIES cliffhanger of an ending leave fans bug-eyed by offering up a sequence of events that they’ve yet to see before, it sets up what sure as heck looks like a very interesting third season.

Despite the fact that the word “BlueBell” covers up far too much of Wilson Bethel for my liking, let me be the first to say how much I enjoyed your recent self-made promo for HART OF DIXIE. Now that you’re good and buttered up, how about a little scoop? — Skylar
The TV Addict: Would you believe that there is a serious downside to living in a small town like Bluebell? As luck would have it, everybody knows everybody’s business. Case in point, we have it on fairly good authority that one of Blue’s most notable bell’s recently spent an afternoon perusing the aisles of the local grocery store for household essentials. You know, stuff like potatoes, plums and PREGNANCY tests. Oops… we may have already said too much!

The only thing more exciting than the recent report that has John Barrowman jumping on board The CW’s ARROW would be if you could shed some light on the character he’s playing. Spill! — Jamie
The TV Addict: Since we don’t actually know who the artist formerly known as Captain Jack Harkness will be playing, we hope some irresponsible speculation will suffice. Speculation that involves a recent casting notice that found its way into our inbox for ARROW’s fifth episode of the season that has the production searching for a thirty to forty year old male named Edward who is described as the clean-shaven soldier and leader of a unit that captures Oliver. Think Christoph Waltz in Inglorious Basterds.

Is Sunday seriously the last episode of POLITICAL ANIMALS? — Frank
The TV Addict: While we’re not exactly sure if USA Network plans on renewing the critically acclaimed albeit ratings anemic series, having already had the pleasure of screening the episode in question, two things remain abundantly clear. One, It’s certainly the last episode for one character, whose untimely and shocking end will have some serious repercussions for the political future of the Hammond family. And two, thanks to an ending that leaves far too many things up in the air, creator Greg Berlanti sure as heck wasn’t writing this as if it was a limited six episode event. Note to USA Network: Give Greg a Chance!

Any BIG BANG THEORY news to brighten up my day following yesterday’s disturbing real-life car crash that thankfully didn’t result in too much harm to star Mayim Bialik? — Rachel
The TV Addict: If laughter really is the best medicine, you may enjoy learning that Sheldon’s ego is about to get that much bigger, as producers begin the search for an actress to play his new assistant. An assistant that will immediately hit it off with Leonard once the twosome realize how much of their life is dictated by the rules and whims of a certain STAR TREK obsessed scientist.

Seeing as though NIKITA shoots in your hometown of Toronto I’m wondering if you happened to have found yourself on the set at anytime this season? — Samantha
The TV Addict: Not so fun fact: Despite our best efforts to “accidentally” bump into noted animal activist and NIKITA star Maggie Q so that she can fall head over heels in love with Mac, our dream has not yet come to fruition. And believe you me, we’ve tried! That said, in Ms. Q’s defence, it would appear that she will have her hands full this season thanks to newly independent Amanda’s dream of recruiting members to her upstart organization. Promises Amanda in her sales pitch to “Anne,” who producers are currently casting for, “Division is going to self-destruct and we’ll be the ones to push the button.” Duh… duh… duh.

Your just released spoilerific trailer for DEXTER season seven has me more excited than ever. Care to add to that excitement? — Aaron
The TV Addict: The only thing we’re really prepared to spoil about DEXTER’s seventh season premiere that — in case you haven’t heard, is a return to form for the series — is that Dexter Morgan is in over is head. So just how much trouble is our intrepid anti-hero in? Put it this way: The opening sequence of the seventh season premiere involves him rushing to the airport! Read into that what you will.

I’m somewhat concerned about how Julia and Joel’s marriage will be affected by their recent addition of Victor to the family. Any chance you can alleviate this PARENTHOOD fan’s fears? — Jen
The TV Addict: In terms of Julia and Joel’s relationship, we’ve got a bit of a good and bad news situation for you. On the positive side, all signs indicate that the addition of Victor will not take a toll on their relationship. Where the bad news comes in is that it might very well adversely affect Julia’s career, specifically her partner track at her law firm.

Even though SHAMELESS’ third season is oh so far away, I’d love to get an update on my favorite television family. — Lee
The TV Addict: Happy to oblige, assuming of course you don’t shoot the messenger. Which is our not so subtle way of saying, remember that surprisingly uplifting and happy note SHAMELESS ended its second season on? Well, you’re probably going to want to savor that sequence, because when the hit Showtime series does return for its third season in January, things are going to get ugly. Specifically between daughter Fiona and absentee-father Frank, who appear poised to end up in a custody battle over who has guardianship over the Gallagher brood. Translation: Let’s get ready to rumble…

Any scoop I can sink my teeth into to tide me over until THE VAMPIRE DIARIES’ October return would be very much appreciated. — Marnie
The TV Addict: Move over SAVED BY THE BELL, Season Three of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES might as well be subtitled “The College Years!” At least in terms of Bonnie’s life, who according to reports will get a little too close to a brilliant and charming Professor (aren’t they all?) whose sad history drives an obsession with the occult, all things supernatural, and as luck would have it, a certain witch.

What is up with Kal and Tariq on THE L.A. COMPLEX? Tuesday’s season premiere was off-the-hook! — Luke
The TV Addict: Well, hold on to your hats, because the fun is just getting started. This Tuesday’s episode not only sees Abby in yet another ridiculously awkward situation on the set of Alan Thicke’s little-too-close-for-comfort family, but may in fact serve as somewhat of a turning point for Tariq and Kal. The latter of whom will finally come out to somebody. Of course, this being THE L.A. COMPLEX, that certain somebody is most certainly not who one would expect.

After this past weekends Comic Con in San Diego, I’m not sure I can wait until ARROW’s premiere. Any Scoop? — Nick
The TV Addict: Suffice it to say, when ARROW does premiere this Fall, star Stephen Amell will have his hands full. Case in point, the show’s third episode ominously titled “Lone Gunman” that sees producers currently casting for a thirty something assassin with a fondness for tattooing the names of the men he has killed over his body. Ouch!

Do you have any idea as to the true identity of Quinn on SCANDAL? — Jennifer
The TV Addict: Nope! Thus, in lieu of any actual information we hope this morsel of SCANDAL scoop will suffice: You know how last season showrunner Shonda Rhimes revealed White House Chief of Staff Cyrus to be the show’s big baddie? Well, when SCANDAL does return for its much anticipated second season you might be surprised to learn that Cyrus may not have acted alone. At least according to sources that have the show currently casting for an even biggie baddie. One with much deeper pockets, who unfortunately for Cyrus, expects his Presidential donations to allow him to play puppet master. The nerve!

Any word on what hijinx we can expect from not-quite-father-of-the-year Frank Gallagher now that SHAMELESS has started shooting again? — Mikey
The TV Addict: Good News: Expect Frank to actually spend some time coaching his youngest son Carl. Bad News: Did we mention the coaching will be along the lines of how to act like a child suffering with Cancer so that Frank can score some Make-a-Wish style benefits like Bulls ticket?

I’m jonsin’ for some Braverman intel. Specifically, how the family is going to adjust to Julia and Joel’s adoption of Victor? — Brenda
The TV Addict: Much like every plot point in PARENTHOOD, Victor’s adjustment to life amongst the Bravermans is going to be a rocky one. Particularly after Max notices his pet lizard is missing from the house. Awkward.

Absolutely loved me some POLITICAL ANIMALS on Sunday. Anything interesting to report? — Jayson
The TV Addict: If by interesting you mean a warning that audiences should probably brace themselves for the fact that not every character introduced during this past Sunday’s star-studded series premiere will survive to the end of this mini series event. Well, then yes, consider yourself warned.

Any idea how life is shaping up for the denizens of BlueBell following last season’s eventful HART OF DIXIE finale? — Lesley
The TV Addict: It’s complicated. Take HART OF DIXIE’s upcoming second episode of the season for example. While normally, one might be excited that BlueBellaPalooza is rocking the usually quiet little coastal town, this particularly music festival brings with it some unwanted tourists. Namely, musicians of the romantic variety who may-or-may-not be back to complicate things between Wade and Zoe. Complications Zoe sure as heck doesn’t need considering the not-so-good Doctor Brick with whom she shares office space with decided it would be a good idea to offer his hurting daughter Lemon a job.

In celebration of WEEDS just-shot 100th episode, I’m hoping you can provide me with a gift in the form of some scoop. — Dave
The TV Addict: How’s this? Not only will Sunday’s episode double as Hunter Parrish’s audition for the Christian Grey role in 50 Shades of Grey, the episode will culminate with more problems for Nancy thanks to the return of a certain gentleman from her past.

I’m seriously worried for Ben Mason after Sunday’s final FALLING SKIES moments. Is there anything you can say to alleviate my fears? — Rachel
The TV Addict: As much as we’d like to give you some good news on the Ben Mason front, all indications point to things getting even worse for young actor who is quietly becoming the show’s MVP. Which is to say, you best be keeping kleenex on hand during Sunday’s episode which ends with a father son moment of the heartbreaking variety.

Last Sunday’s penultimate SHAMELESS of the season was off the hook! Any idea if we’ll ever see Ian’s very-random hook-up again? — Nick
The TV Addict: Funny you should ask, because we just so happened to have finished watching Sunday’s fantastic second season finale and can assure you that Ian’s one night stand doesn’t just come back to haunt him, but does so in a way we didn’t — but probably should have — seen coming. Cooler still, unlike the SHAMELESS’ first season, which ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger, Sunday’s second season ends on more of a positive note for those already dreading the interminable nine month wait until Season three.

Any word on when poor Erica will finally kick the bucket on PRIVATE PRACTICE? — Jenn
The TV Addict: While we’re hesitant to pinpoint an exact end date for poor Erica and the nightmarish time spent on PRIVATE PRACTICE this season, we can let you in a little something interesting courtesy of a source close to production. In the upcoming fifth season finale, a character will, in a court of law no less, be accused of “pulling a Kevorkian!” Read into that what you will.

Are Barney and Quinn seriously going to move in with one another on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER? — Dylan
The TV Addict: Yes. And it’s gonna be Legen… wait for it…. Oh, who are we kidding! The only thing we’re sure of when it comes to what the future holds for HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER is that when the show finally does return from its traditional hiatus (March Madness, indeed), it will do so with an episode that has all the trappings of one destined to become a classic. After-all, nothing says Legen… wait for it… Dary like an episode that sees Ted, Marshall and Barney embark on another “trilogy time” in which they get together every three years to watch the “Star Wars” trilogy and envision what their lives will be like in another three years.

Care to make up for your total lack of HAWAII FIVE-0 coverage by sharing a little scoop? — Frank
The TV Addict: As an apology for spending our Monday nights at 10PM glued to anything but HAWAII FIVE-0 (Read: SMASH and CASTLE), we hope you’ll accept this little piece of intel with regards to some guy name Wo Fat. Turns out, one of the island’s big baddies may have some friends in high places. Or at least that’s what Danny will take away from a mysterious season ending meeting with a source inside the CIA who alerts him to Wo Fat’s links to both the U.S. Government and the C.I.A.

Is Tyler ever going to return to Mystic Falls? — Rochelle
The TV Addict: If you’re one of the many VAMPIRE DIARIES fans who have been flooding our inbox with demands for Tyler’s return, please keep in mind two very important things. First and foremost, just because we run a fairly popular television blog that mentions THE VAMPIRE DIARIES every so often does in no way mean we have any control as to what goes on in the show. Along those same lines, we also have no power when it comes to bringing back MOONLIGHT and/or LEGEND OF THE SEEKER to the air, and have absolutely zero knowledge when it comes to whether or not REVENGE’s Gabriel Mann is really gay (Editor’s note: You would not believe what people enter into Google to come across theTVaddict.com!). What we can do is alert you to the fact that Tyler does make his much-anticipated return during the April 19th episodes of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES entitled “Heart of Darkness.” What’s more, it’s a return that is mired in disappointment after everybody’s favorite teen wolf starts to suspect that a little something something has been going on between Caroline and Klaus.

Dying to discover just how long Cricket and Blake’s marriage of convenience can withstand the lack of intimacy on GCB? — Brandon
The TV Addict: If our recent one-on-one with actor Mark Deklin is any indication, the clock is most definitely ticking on Cricket and Blake’s sham (?) of a marriage. And while we could very easily spill the beans as to which member of the soon to be not-so-happy couple is to blame for the marital drama that is hurdling towards Dallas, we’d much rather attempt to entice you to return to theTVaddict.com tomorrow when we run our complete interview with the affable actor himself.

Is HART OF DIXIE ever returning to my television screen? I feel as thought it has been forever since I got to spend some much needed time in Bluebell Alabama! — Rachel
The TV Addict: It has! Which is why we’re thrilled to report that when HART OF DIXIE does return, it will be making up for lost time by delivering one of its most dramatic episodes to date. Entitled “Heart to Hart,” the April 2nd episode not only marks the long-awaited arrival of Zoe’s “father” to operate on George’s ailing one, but will also see Lemon attempt to bond with Zoe in an effort to ensure her lips are sealed with regards to Lemon’s very unladylike fling with Lavon. Needless to say, we can’t wait.

Now that the creative team on SMASH have decided they need a bonafide movie star if they want to see Marilyn make it to Broadway, where does that leave both Karen and Ivy? — Lisa
The TV Addict: Infomercials! No really. An upcoming episode of SMASH will actually have the talented twosome competing with each other over the same orange-juice commercial. That said, members of both Team Karen and/or Team Ivy shouldn’t lose hope just yet. After-all, there will most definitely room for at least one understudy when big time movie star Rebecca Duvall (Uma Thurman) joins the cast to take on the titular role of Marilyn Monroe.
