PURITY: Showtime Orders Limited Series Starring Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig is coming to TV. Showtime has announced that they have ordered a limited series starring the actor titled PURITY.

The show is based on the novel of the same name from author Jonathan Franzen. Todd Field (Little Children, In the Bedroom) will write, direct and executive produce, along with executive producers Scott Rudin, Eli Bush, David Hare and Jonathan Franzen. PURITY will be a 20-episode limited series set to air over the course of two years on Showtime. Production will begin in 2017.

PURITY is described as “a morally complex story of youthful idealism, extreme loyalty and cold-blooded murder. Jonathan Franzen’s intricately plotted novel is populated by characters both hungry for the truth and desperate to hide it. From STASI offspring to Oakland anarchists, Franzen tracks his characters’ landscapes as varied as East Berlin, the Bolivian jungle, East Harlem walk-ups, and the California Redwoods. PURITY is at once supremely ambitious in scope and intensely intimate in its treatment of character – a decades-spanning tragicomedy that builds to a contemporary climax.”

“Jonathan Franzen’s ‘Purity’ is an epic American novel that pulses with the energy of a psychological thriller. I whipped through it in a week,” said David Nevins, President and CEO, Showtime Networks Inc. “His gripping and timely story has attracted a powerhouse team – Todd Field, Scott Rudin, Eli Bush, David Hare, along with Franzen himself, and the brilliant Daniel Craig who is perfectly cast as the charismatic, mysterious ‘Andreas Wolf.’ Put it all together and PURITY promises to be the kind of taut, long-form, serialized storytelling that is the best of premium television, and is precisely what we at Showtime aspire to deliver.”

Shooting for the TWIN PEAKS revival may have concluded, but information is only now starting to get out about the show.

Written and produced by series creators and executive producers David Lynch and Mark Frost, the new TWIN PEAKS is directed entirely by David Lynch, and will premiere on Showtime in 2017.

The new SHOWTIME series will pick up twenty-five years after the inhabitants of a quaint northwestern town were stunned when their homecoming queen Laura Palmer was shockingly murdered.

The full cast list is organized in alphabetical order below.

EPISODES to End With Season 5

Showtime has officially confirmed that season 5 will be the final season of the comedy series EPISODES.

“EPISODES’ scathing portrait of network executives has kept me on my best behavior these last several years, for which I am grudgingly grateful to Jeffrey and David,” said Gary Levine, President of Programming, Showtime Networks Inc.. “I love this show and can’t wait to see what comic heights Matt and company will scale during the fifth and final season of our inspired series.”

“We have had the best time making this show,” said showrunners David Crane and Jeffrey Klarik. “Showtime has been the opposite of every network we write about. If it were up to them we could go on making EPISODES forever. But we’ve told the story we set out to tell and we’d never want to outstay our welcome.”

BILLIONS Season Finale Preview: Everything Comes to a Head

Axe was going through a personal crisis on last week’s BILLIONS after losing big on a trade. During a lengthy late-night session with Wendy, he got to the root of the problem (his guilt over Donnie’s death) and seemed poised for a comeback. But he also confessed some things to Wendy, including making one of his employee’s gun charges disappear thanks to some well-placed payoffs to the police. Wendy wrote up notes about his actions on her computer and then Chuck went snooping and found them.

Now Chuck believes that he has everything he needs to finally put Axe in jail and he lays out his plan in the season finale to use bribery charges to bring Axe down. But Axe still has powerful friends and Hall tells him that Chuck has new evidence against him that could land him in prison. Wendy, of course, has finally realized how far her husband has gone in his pursuit of Axe and threatens to expose him after Ace accuses her of leaking the information to Chuck. Meanwhile, Axe reminds Lara of their contingency plan and she prepares for the Axelrod family to flee the country.

Showtime warns that “with his marriage and career in peril, Chuck is forced to take actions that further his rift with Connerty. Having sacrificed so much to this case – including possibly his marriage – Chuck finds Axe for an explosive confrontation.”

Don’t miss the season finale of BILLIONS tonight (April 10) at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.

BILLIONS Sneak Peeks: Tough Day at the Office

Axe makes a bad decision on this week’s BILLIONS. After insisting that they hold on to some stock against the advice of his analysts and traders (because he’s convinced he’s making the right call), Axe loses hundreds of millions of dollars when the company doesn’t deliver and their stock tanks. He decides to turn to Wendy for help (thinking that the problem lies within himself), but Lara doesn’t believe Wendy can be trusted — not after Chuck and Axe declared war on one another and put Wendy in the middle.

Meanwhile, Lara suggests to her sister, Lu, that she become the new chef at Axe Capital now that she’s selling their restaurant, but Lu balks at the suggestion. So Lara takes them both back to the old neighbourhood to remind her of their roots.

Finally, Chuck is setting out to secure powerful allies in D.C. in his continued fight against Axe. And Sacker and Connerty are shutting down the case against Axe Capital just as Chuck finds evidence that could help them — right in his own home.

Don’t miss an all new episode of BILLIONS tonight (April 3) at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.

Tonight on BILLIONS: A Disappearance

There’s going to be a lot of fallout on this week’s BILLIONS. After the truth of what Axe did after 9/11 came to light in last week’s episode, the public backlash will be big. Axe is “under siege”, for lack of a better term. There will be public demonstrations, fleeing investors and even insurrection inside Axe Capital. Lara has to deal with her own family and the brotherhood of firefighters who are angry about what Axe did and she wonders if they should temporarily move away until the hatred dies down. But Axe believes they should simply stand their ground. All of this eventually leads Lara to make a painful sacrifice.

Meanwhile the state’s informant has gone missing and Chuck, Connerty and the FBI start a manhunt to try and track him down. Wendy is also going to be suspicious about her husband’s insistence that he has given up the Axe case.

Don’t miss an all new episode of BILLIONS tonight (March 13) at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.
