Combining two of our favorite addictions, theTVaddict.com has begun periodically turning off the TV in order to review TV-related iPhone Apps.

Whether you’ve been too busy watching Letterman and Conan rip Jay Leno a new one, or simply getting too old to stay up past THE DAILY SHOW WITH JON STEWART, Comedy Central has now made the best part of THE COLBERT REPORT available at your fingertips with their handy little iPhone App THE WØRD.

What Works: In a word, everything. Thanks to the ability to search for ‘Wørds’ by air date, popularity, or alphabetically and stream them over both Wi-Fi and/or 3G networks at the touch of a finger, fans can now enjoy Stephen Colbert’s THE WØRD when they want where they want it. Which means that your lineup at the grocery store, coffee shop or DMV just got a helluva lot more bearable courtesy of a countless number of four-to-seven minute ‘Wørds’ (updated weekly) nestled squarely in the palm of your hand. Plus, unlike the FAMILY GUY App, the ‘Wørds’ stream commercial free (Although we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that unobtrusive banner ads do appear at the bottom of your screen while you search through clips.)

What Doesn’t: In all truthiness, not only is there quite a bit of room for improvement with regards to the choppy and blocky video playback when watching video over 3G, playback can at times be about as reliable as FOX NEWS with clips on more than one occasion failing to appear, or worse, crashing the program entirely.

The Bottom Line: At less than the price of a cup of coffee, THE WØRD is a must own for card-carrying members of Colbert Nation.

Stephen Colbert’s THE WØRD is available on iTunes for $0.99 cents.

Okay, at this point, we’ve gotten used to seen SNL serve up sketches that are moderately funny at best and about as topical as a copy of Time magazine from 2006, but must their hosts be plucked from the recycling pile as well? With all due respect to MAD MEN’s Jon Hamm (slated to host the supposed laffer on January 30) or camera spokesmodel Ashton Kutcher (February 6), we humbly offer up a few ideas for hosts who don’t come with their own “Been There, Done That, Hosted SNL” t-shirts.

Zachary Levi
NBC obviously knows they have a potential hit in the slow-to-grow CHUCK as evidenced by the ad campaigns devoted to it (not to mention their not putting our favorite Buy More employee on the shelf), so why not give the show’s star a shot in the host slot? Could prove to be a mutually advantageous situation for both shows.

Joel McHale
Live from New York… it’s the bitingly-funny star of COMMUNITY, the funniest NBC comedy that you’re not watching. And given that the guy <strike>used to</strike> still hosts THE SOUP — which is often funnier on an off day than SNL at its best — he knows a thing or two about bringin’ the funny.

Stephen Colbert
Considering the fact that Colbert was kind enough to give NBC executive Dick Ebersol time on Wednesday night’s THE COLBERT REPORT so he could plug NBC’s upcoming Olympic coverage, it seems only fair there be a little quid pro quo.

Stewie Griffin
Sure, it would take some advance planning but in a world where news networks are using holograms, why couldn’t the diaper-wearing, show-tune-crooning, matricide-plotting FAMILY GUY baby be animated into scenes?

Conan O’Brien
Rumor has it the late-night funny guy has some free time on his hands. (What? Too soon?)

As he often does, Jon Stewart ended off THE DAILY SHOW by checking in with his Comedy Central co-hort Stephen Colbert. Sporting a lengthy strike beard that would put Letterman’s to shame, Colbert remarked, “I’m very alarmed by how prepared you seemed.”

Needless to say, Colbert isn’t the only one.

As much as I was thrilled for the return of my traditional nightcap of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, this TV Addict couldn’t help but notice how ‘normal’ both shows seemed. Sure tweaks to both shows were evident, with Colbert interviewing 2 guests rather than his usual 1 and Stewart taking some not-so-subtle shots at the WGA leadership team for their side deal with LETTERMAN. The worrisome factor kicks in when one realizes that both THE DAILY SHOW and THE COLBERT REPORT still managed, emphasis on without writers, to combine for television’s funniest hour of political commentary.

Whether Stewart and Colbert can keep this up night after night is another issue entirely. Yet one can’t help but ponder the question that should be on everyone’s mind. Is their successful return not another nail in the WGA’s coffin?

Put down your Americone Dream and prepare to be shocked and awed. After years of toiling away on Comedy Central, Stephen Colbert (American Hero) has finally hit the big time!

On September 23 at 8PM — Colbert will join the small group of cultural and entertainment elite who have been forever immortalized on THE SIMPSONS. In the show’s nineteenth season premiere, Colbert will play a life coach who is hired by Homer to help him fulfill his life-long dream of <strike>owning a professional football team</strike> finding a job that offers the luxury of flying on a corporate jet.

We congratulate Mr. Colbert on his momentous achievement with the hope that this guest stint not only aids in expanding Colbert Nation, but helps to further raise ‘wrist awareness’ in America.

While participating in a forum at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Politics, Colbert discusses many aspects of his show, his personal life, political views and his take on the 24-hour news media. It’s a rare, candid and self-effacing glimpse behind the smug character he plays on TV. [The actual interview starts following the first four minutes of Colbert footage]
